Football Gameplan's 2012 Wk 2 Texans vs Jags Video Preview

Texans vs Jags Video Preview

Good morning Texans fans! Good luck this week!

Em

I get what you're saying about Holiday's speed, but we don't have to get him involved in the offense. We're not hurting for WRs at the moment. We didn't get our young WRs in the game as much as I think we should have last week, instead we motioned our FB out to the flank & ran more 3 TE looks.

Impressed with Gabbert??

Considering what was last year yep LOL.. he's not Joe Montana, but at least he's not Gabbert from last year..which is a BIG improvement

Was Posey a healthy scratch last week?

I think after Martin's early drop they withdrew a little. I was actually surprised by how much they played early on. I liked the rotation of the WR's a lot and I really liked that Andre and Kevin were getting some rest.

Kubiak said in an interview this week that he wants Andre to get even more rest and that he wants to give Jean more Reps. I think we'll be seeing a little more of the young guys...

As far as Gabbert, I have said all along that I don't think he sucks as much as last year would indicate. I think he'll be a decent QB.

Yeah, Posey probably won't be active unless we cut Trindon or if we have an injury.

Good stuff again Em.

  • Texans running attack could improve with inside zone.
  • Explain why Gabbert looked impressive enough to match-up favorably vs. Matt Schaub.
  • If Mathis can neutralize Andre that would be huge for Jags, but do you feel Holiday will actually be that other option? If Mathis does get inside Andre's jock then why not break-out Lestar Jean he looks ready to make that next step over Holiday or Martin.
  • Until Houston Texan Special Texans actually execute how can you give them an edge?
  • Jags can pressure Schaub, because he will hold the ball too long waiting for WR's to break tight coverage or OL will struggle against Jags pass rushers?
  • Another game Houston SHOULD win, that scares me a little.

Good stuff, thanks for posting.
Just curious here -- whats your goal with these football previews? Are you using this as practice/"game tape" for getting a sports analyst job?

Thanks Cap'n!! Ok...here goes!:

- Gabbert looked impressive enough to get rid of the ball quicker to the WRs which will help their offense stay on the field. Plus spreading the field more (3WRs 1 TE) allows him to see the pressure and better protect from it

- As for Holliday, I like his speed and think he can be used in certain situations to be successful (bubble screens, end arounds, jet sweeps, quick hitches)

- I give the Texans the edge based off personnel in Special Teams not necessarily production as of yet

- The Jags don't give interior pressure, so the edges can be protected by doubling whomever is bringing the most pressure

Good stuff, thanks for posting.

Thanks Homie! Not trying to get a sports analyst job..I already have one...Football Gameplan :) I rather do video instead of writing articles for my website. So, Football Gameplan is the job itself. I post the videos to share with you guys to continue building my brand while hopefully jumpstarting conversations and debates with you guys

Thanks for video as always Em.

I just don't think Foster&Tate = MJD (the other guy Jennings is injured and even healthy, I give an edge to Texans)

Go Texans!!!

Thanks Bud! Tate needs a bounce back game...he better stop tap dancing and run

Tate's only had one game, and he was unimpressive, but he'll come back. He's to good not to. Foster got the yards when needed last week. However, it is evident the running game just isn't what it was last year, that's for sure.

So you're saying the Jags runningbacks are just as talented as the Texans'?

if Em thinks Texan backfield is a wash next week against the Broncos that would make three in a row & a trend of discounting Arian Foster, Ben Tate & lets not forget Justin Forsett, who does not drop balls like rookie WR Keshawn Martin or return specialist Trindon Holliday. The only thing I can think of is our backfield is suffering from OL play & running attack that didn't click in first game. Having said that, I expect MJD to have a big game against this Texans run defense. He should equal or surpass AF game stats @ home & Greg Jones could poach some TD's, hoping Tate can do the same & Justin gets some touches as well. I'm shocked as a matter of fact that Kubiak did not introduce Texan homebase fans to Forsett catching the ball out of the backfield, I remember not so long ago he would make the rookies sit & wait going with experience instead.

Greg Jones could poach some TD's

On what theory? - Jones has 1 TD in the past 5 years, 3 in the past 7. He hasn't had more than 4 attempts in the last 5 years. He is a pure FB now.

I remember not so long ago he would make the rookies sit & wait going with experience instead.

What does that have to do with the Texans' situation? - nobody in front of Forsett is a rookie.

I wouldn't go that far.

Dolphins surprised the heck out of me. That is a good football team, I don't care what anyone says.

I don't know if it'll translate into a bunch of wins, but I thought they were good defensively for the most part. And I thought Tannehill looked better than I thought he would. Made some rookie mistakes, but he showed the ability to get the ball out quick and on target....he's a good looking young qb. And bush looks like he's matured.

Basically, i think that Miami team was better than this jags team IMHO. I think we'll run the ball a little better and I think the passing game will flourish early and often.

I think the team will play better than last week.
