Man love format of this board...............
So how many of you folks think Matt Scahub gets no love? I think guy is underratted Qb. Sure he might be no Rodgers but he is top 10 guy.
We're going to resign Matt Schaub and he'll be the starter until Yates or Keenum or some guy that we've yet to meet comes in and takes the job from him. It doesn't matter how much love he doesn't get from us. The one man whose opinion matters thinks he's gotten it done.
If that were the case he'd probably have gotten done before Brown did. I think the Texans are really wary of Matt Schaub injuries and want to see him play all of 2012 before they sign him to a deal. They may even franchise him.
Not necessarily true. Brown, being a LT I think commands more attention from other teams because frankly he's more valuable than Schaub. Plus their relative ages being what they are I imagine that the Texans expect Brown to be protecting Schaub as well as the guy who follows him.
I really don't think the Texans are going to have any trouble resigning Matt Schaub. He'll sign for less than the elite guys and they'll get a deal done that is easy to live with. He's an entrenched starter here on a team that gave him his shot. He's not going anywhere.
You may be correct and Matt also may want to to retire here BUT it is also probably his last contract to set him for life. Doesn't logic suggest he go for the bucks? On one of the other threads one of the ESPN guys allegedly said Houston had about $24million cap space in 2013 and that was before Brown signed. If we have apprx $15m, we can sign Barwin and once Matt has shown he's healthy we can probably sign him also. I think the progress of TJ Yates will play a role. Not necessarily true. Clearly there is some logic to saying go for the bucks. The problem is the smart play to get more bucks may be to sign here for less. He is successfully leading a team. Only a few teams run similar systems. One just put a #2 pick at QB. So there is a very narrow market for teams where he would not have a significant system change. So longevity with the system and coach are significant factors. Playing out a 5 year $50 mil contract is more money than getting cut 3 years into a $60 mil contract.
Give that man a cigar!
Good point, just not sure Matt figures he could get cut in 3 years. Also would he not want to prove he is not a system QB? I think a good Oline and a decent RB and a WR or two would get his attention especially if FOUR year $50million.Clearly there is some logic to saying go for the bucks.
