Texans and Duane Brown reach contract agreement

If you're going to build through the draft, you have to keep the picks you hit on. Good job, team.

Yeah .... but they have hit on so many , I wonder how they keep them all.

You gotta keep the core together:

1) Gotta have a high level QB
2) Gotta have a high level LT to protect QB
3) Gotta have a high level OLB/DE to rush the QB
4) Gotta have a high level RB to the presssure off the O
5) Gotta have a high level CB to take away the opponent's best receiver.
6) Gotta have a high level receiver

I have said this before.....those who have been a fan of the team since 2002......remember how desperate we were to find that left tackle.....remember how frustrated we all were that Boselli never worked out.....
Now to know we have got Duane Brown locked up this is great. I am happy as hell.....great news.....credit to Rick Smith and Mr. Chris Olsen for getting it done....congrats......:hurrah::texanbill::whip:

If he was only due $2 Million this year, won't his new deal push us even closer to our cap limit making it less likely to give Barwin a payday this year?

Yes, I remember Orlando Pace playing us to get his contract elsewhere. A lot of players have used us to bolster negotiations, but that one hurt the most.

No, you can't modify rookie deals. Everything that is in his contract will apply to the 2013 season and for however many years after that it runs. Signing bonus will be paid as soon as he inks the deal, but will only count against the cap during the years specified in the deal. It is possible for the Texans to put some of his signing bonus into this year, but it's really a moot point given the cap roll over system.

Anyone got the numbers on it yet? I heard Ryan Clady turned down 5 years 50 million with ~28 gtd from the Broncos a few weeks ago. It will be interesting to see where Brown winds up in relation to other deals.

I bet that little scare with the bruised knee Duane got in practice the other day made it a little easier for the Texans to close this deal ? Not saying Duane was any less valuable, but he maybe was thinking about
what would happen if he got a real injury before a new contract was inked ?

don't forget kicker.

Brown's new deal starts in 2013 and runs through 2018. He makes $2.08 million this season.

@McClain_on_NFL: Duane Brown signed 6-year $53.4 million extension. $22.08 guaranteed. $8.9 million average.

That is incredible. I thought he would get 10 a year. I can't believe Ryan Clady turned down 5 years, 50 million with 28 gtd, what a doof. I think Duane Brown will be a Texan the rest of his career, he clearly cares more about the team than a few million here and there.

Comparables:

Washington's Trent Williams got 6 years 60 million, 37 gtd, last year.

Carolina's Jordan Gross got 6 years 60 million in 2009.

Philly's Jason Peters got 6 years 60 million in 2011 with 25 gtd.

Miami's Jake Long got 5 years 57 million, 30 gtd, in 2009.
