I sell all the time on Craigslist and have bought a few as well. I have never sold tickets and reprinted them, that is stealing!!!!!! I offer to give the buyer my TDL and a hand written receipt out of money receipt book. That way he knows where where I live, my cell, and had a receipt if the ticket is "NO GOOD". I VERY rarely ship to out of town customers unless they have bought from me before. I meet FACE TO FACE with hard tickets in hand with my ticket invoice. It is just like anything else...... 95% of the people are real and legit..... it's the 5% out there that screws it up for everybody else. I use to sell on ebay, but the fees are stupid, craigslist is the way to go, meet local, and find a guy you can trust. Stubhub and NFL ticket exchange is CRAZY, I can't believe people pay those prices and fees. Craigslist saves the BUYER and SELLER money without involving the middle man. People use to sell here to save Texans fans money until people got upset if they were asking for more than face value. Now they have to go to the high priced secondary market for tickets. It just makes it more expensive for all involved rather than just making a deal between two people.
Wow! Did I hack into your account and type that post - because that is almost exactly my experience. The only difference is I never thought to bring the invoice to show when making a sale - good idea. No one has asked for a receipt or a TDL but I would be fine with that - my name is right there on the ticket (and my Texans account number).
People think the hard tickets are more secure. From OrangeLotPole8 or me or any honest seller they are. They don't trust email tixs because you could email a zillions copies. Which is true. But you could give them the hard tickets, and then email yourself the tickets (cancelling the hard tickets). Actually the MOST secure way if you are a buyer is to get the seller to have the Texans email you the tickets directly. I think you get a "so and so wants us to email you his tickets, is that OK?" email. You respond "yes" and they send another email with an attachment to print. This would be what Stemp is talking about (important - you get the email straight from the Texans, not forwarded from the seller).
If you sell on Craigslist, lots of people email "do you still have the tickets?" you answer yes and they never get back to you. Also I talk on the phone and set a meeting time. If the meeting time is today - 100% of the people show up - no problems. If the meeting is tomorrow - 25% cancel, 75% show up. If the meeting is later - 90% cancel, 10% show up.
You probably figured out the Tickets "By Dealer" section is useless - every one I have ever looked at is just a link to a ticket broker website. Lots of people list the price as $1 - but they always want more when you read the post! I list the per ticket price in the price.
In fact I have just posted two listing on Craigslist this evening - one for Miami, and one for Green Bay. I am not going to post them here because I am asking over "face value" and the message board ninny police would cry and moan all over the thread. As OLP8 says, the ninny police have basically ruined the usefulness of this forum (the official board is even worse).
I used to sell only on eBay (eBay fee ~3% + PayPal ~3%). Now eBay fee is 9+% (PayPal still 3%). Also they crush the eBay listing into the StubHub format and combine with StubHub so it is difficult for buyers to search eBay listings anymore. The others - StubHub, TicketExchange, etal charge 25% or more (typically 15% to the seller and 10% to the buyer) - outrageous. I have converted to all Craigslist for selling any extra tickets.
