It definitely seems as though Wade seems to have developed the "IT FACTOR." We are all hoping that this time he continues to hold his own.

Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips took a for-real, getaway trip to Galveston with his family this past week, but he admits he struggled to keep his mind on the surf, sea breeze and sunsets. It kept wandering. And a call from a reporter to talk about his vocation - as opposed to his vacation - didn’t help any. You could almost hear his wife, Laurie, sighing in the background.

“She can always tell it’s time,” said Phillips, who returns to the practice field Saturday for the start of training camp. “I start thinking about football, not vacation.”

Even serious medical issues last fall, which sent him to the hospital for kidney and gall bladder surgery late in the season, haven’t forced Phillips to reassess his priorities.

That ordeal, and how matter-of-factly he responded to it, told us everything we need to know about how much the game means to him. The only way Phillips is ever likely to stop and smell and roses is if somebody sticks a pot in the film room or plants a bush on the 50-yard line.

He can’t help himself.

“This is what I do, and I love doing it,” he said. “I don’t really do a lot of other things. I don’t play golf. I don’t have any hobbies. And I sure don’t do much around the house. (Laurie) would tell you that.”

As a longtime Oiler fan and sufferer, Bum Phillips Luv Ya Blue era was something I'll never forget. Co-workers talking with me about the team who had previously teased me. It was the best of days. It was the worst of days.

Bum will always be something special to me. His son could be working on a place in my heart also, but he needs to have some witty sayings.

I'm sure glad he got out of Dallas & landed in Houston where he can relax & focus on Football. Too many distractions up there :corrosion:
