The Houston Texans, fat players and good food

Well thank the Lord, Brooks just went down the wrong side of the table. Whew, thought we might have a problem.

You rarely ever hear Kubiak call out an individual player. This season already feels different. Players know what's expected of them, and if they don't meet those expectations, Kubiak will call them out. It's Super Bowl or bust.

With that said, I was worried about Brook's weight since day 1, when we drafted him. Even if he is "nimble" and "quick" for his weight, he is still 350 lbs. He won't be as quick as a 290 lb lineman. If Brooks doesn't lose a lot of weight, he'll have trouble with the smaller, quick guys like Dwight Freeney.

He's a guard, not a tackle.

What was so surprising about the Brooks draft was even the idea that they would draft an offensive linemen that large. And Texans fans keep waiting (weighting?) for the Texans to draft a defensive tackle of size.

I’ve always wondered if the Texans could even have a successful fat guy player given that they are competing for roster spots in the Texas heat. The Saints have had some players of girth, and their training camps are similarly hot.

Maybe that's it, Brooks is the Texans secret weapon at NT ?
But I just don't like fat guys in the Texans Oline, besides it's a contradiction,
actually a violation of the ZBS code-of-conduct ?

My list contains a number of healthier food option choices. They seem to be so hard to find in this part of the world that I very much appreciate the places to do good food that is good for you.

TC,
If someone insists on having burgers, this would be amongst the healthier choices (buffalo burgers) to visit (of course, without just slopping on a load of such more unhealthy toppings as mayonnaise and cheese). It's just a little hole-in-the-ground. But a potentially healthier and good hole-in-the-ground.

He's a guard, not a tackle.

Antonio Smith is technically a DE, but he moves inside on certain downs. I'm not exactly sure about Antonio's weight, but I think he's around 290. My point is that Brooks is fat and will struggle as a result of it.

Brooks has been measured out at 25% body fat.

Why do people fail to realize that Brooks is out of shape. He's a big, fast, strong guy. 25% body fat isn't bad for a guy Brooks size. I hope Gary doesn't make him lose so much weight that he loses his strength.

Brooks upside is there aren't many people with his size/strength/weight combo.

25% is terrible for a pro athlete unless we're talking sumo wrestling. Most NBA guys hang between 5 and 10%, I have a BF scale myself and generally hover at 17% (which is considered normal). I mean quick math, he's 350 so a quarter of his weight is nearly 90 pounds. 90 pounds of bad weight is too much for a guy expected to bust ass for a whole game.

I think they want him about 320, which is I think where Brown tops out and Winston wasn't far behind. Yeah he's a big guy with mobility but losing that dead weight is only going to help.

Smith doesn't "move" inside, he still plays with his hand in the dirt in the same gap as most downs. And brooks plays OL. I guarantee you that 25% bf helps him quite a bit when trying to stand his ground. Dude is not out of shape, look at him.

I've eaten there before.

As it relates to burgers, I'm not going to do better bad choices. If I'm going that direction, I want the juiciest, most delicious burger ever.

In other words, I think I'd rather have a grilled chicken sandwich over a buffalo burger.

Lankfords grocery is the best burger in Houston, and well upwards of 1500+ calories lol.

Steph asked for healthier eating out options in Houston. One of my favorite restaurants is Union Kitchen

The portion sizes are normal, not ridiculously big like so many places, and they seem to be cooking healthier than most. Don't burst my bubble if I am wrong on that last point.
