Chad Ocho Cinco Released

After unsuccessfully trying to trade WR Chad Ochocinco throughout the day Thursday, the Patriots are releasing him, per league source.

Shocker. And inb4 "Texans should sign him."

Depending on the price. If reasonable enough take a chance and see what he has left. I think the system in NE was his main issue. Maybe we could get a good year out of the duo of Johnson and Johnson.

I'm be worried he'd be a distraction in the locker room, but you certainly should inquire.

Yeah, that's always a concern with him but I think he knows he can't afford to be too big of a distraction with his new team. I think the only way we'd bring him in is if there was an injury to Walter or Andre.

I think another team will give him a chance, and be willing to pay more than the minimum, which is all the Texans should offer.

No thanks. His football skills have been surpassed by his need for attention in the media.

He'd last as long as Dwight Jones here.

McNair himself would have no desire to add a guy who changes his last name just for ****s and giggles. Plus the constant desire for media attention. Plus the inability to make it on a team that has arguably the most accurate passer in the NFL. Plus the vet minimum he'd be required to sign for, which is not chump change.

It's not gonna' happen. Not gonna'.

I agree that it's not going to happen, but we're going to give someone that vet minimum money. My stomach is turning at the thought of running out a receiving lineup of Walter, Jean, Posey and Martin. On top of that Walter has missed some time the last few years as well, and Jean is coming off an "injury" so who knows how that's gonna hold up. We NEED to bring in someone who we can put on the field who has some experience. I'd be shocked if we didn't sign a receiver by the start of TC.

I just had a thought, I bet he goes to the Miami Dolphins. They need a #1 WR, and they will be on Hard Knocks this year. Ocho Cinco loves to be on TV, so going there would make a lot of sense for him. That club is currently a circus anyways, so adding a WR that is equal to a bear riding a unicycle would fit right in.

Chad would be an upgrade over here? Over whom? Sure if you put Kareem Jackson at WR. Chad Johnson has had one good season out of the last 4. He just got the best opportunity of his career to play with Tom Brady and one of the best statistical passing seasons of all time, and not only did he do literally nothing stat wise, but the HC hardly trusted him ever on the field. Chad has been done for years. When you can't even do squat in the Patriots offense, you really aren't worth a damn. And all of that is the "on the field issues" that are a problem. Don't even get me started on the circus issues that revolve around him off the field.

I don't think he has anything left in the tank. And now his antics far outweigh any contribution he can muster. To think Wash offered cincy two #1's for him about three years ago.

I don't think he can still play (his numbers from last year support that), and I'm sure he would be a bad fit on the Texans.

Chad Adios Viejo
He showed flashes in a couple of games...... Namely a big catch against the Jets last year where he got behind the defense and showed the same explosion he's always had. For some reason he wasn't able to grasp their offense. He had over 1800 yards and 13 TDs in 2009 and 2010. Thats with Terrell Owens getting most of the attempts thrown his way in 2010 and he had over 800 yards. Not bad for a 2nd receiver. Just remember people were saying Steve Smith was done before last year as well.

I still don't think he would be a fit here but to say he's washed up is premature. Its a shame he couldn't grasp their offense and honestly that doesn't say much about his football IQ but I don't think he's done being a productive receiver in this league.

Steve Smith had a bad season before last year, but that's about it. Chad Johnson had two bad seasons out of his last 3 before last year. Plus, he has had all kinds of off the field issues for years with his personal marketing. Steve Smith looked like a beast still before last season. He just had horrible rotating QB's throwing to him at the time on the worst team in the league.

He is worse than washed up. He couldn't do squat in one of the best passing offenses of all time last season with Tom Brady throwing to him. That is usually an offense where WR's over achieve at as well.

Hardly premature. Johnson is 34 and looks it. Few WRs still produce at that age. If Johnson showed a couple of "flashes" at 33, can we expect one flash at 34? A guy plays in the league for 10 years, but can't pickup an offense? Getting open against CBs was Johnson's problem.

Steve Smith

2009 65 rec 982 yards 7 tds
2010 46 rec 554 yards 2 tds

Chad Ochocinco

2009 72 rec 1047 yards 9 tds
2010 67 rec 831 yards 4 tds

Chad outperformed him in both of those seasons. If you consider over 800 yards a bad year when Terrell Owens was getting the majority of passes thrown to him a bad year then you have a lot to learn about football my friend. Last year was a bad year I will give you that, and I personally said that his inability to grasp their offense doesn't speak highly of his football IQ. Its the main reason I wouldn't want him here. But just before last year even the Panthers were shopping Steve Smith so to say he was still a beast is silly. He was looking old and having Cam come in brought some life back into him.

Learn what you're talking about first so you understand why he wasn't on the field. It's been well known that the reason he wasn't on the field had nothing to do with his ability. He couldn't grasp their offense MENTALLY!!! They got tired of waiting like any team would. Tom Brady spoke on this issue over and over and over last year about Chad getting comfortable with the adjustments in their offense. He could never figure it out. Again, I don't want him here but you saying he's washed up when he wasn't even on the field reflects how much you know about the situation there last year.

Chad Ochocinco’s inability to learn the offense a consistent problem

Chad Ochocinco’s inability to learn the offense a consistent problem

Chad Ochocinco has been released by the Patriots, and in the stories about what went wrong for him in New England, a consistent theme emerges: He simply never learned the playbook.

Whether Ochocinco’s problem was more a matter of being unable or unwilling to do the work necessary to pick up the Patriots’ offense, several reports say that nearly a year after he was traded from Cincinnati to New England, he still didn’t know his assignments, down to his last day with the Patriots.

One league source told the Boston Globe that Ochocinco is still physically capable of playing wide receiver in the NFL, but he continued to struggle with the playbook both before and after new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels arrived.

After an Organized Team Activity last month, the Boston Globe reported that Deion Branch had to tell Ochocinco where to line up, and after that Ochocinco jumped offside.

The Boston Herald reported that Ochocinco couldn’t get up to speed with the playbook, and the Patriots decided to part ways.

A report at NESN.com says that Ochocinco’s continued inability to understand the Patriots’ offensive system appears to have been the final straw.

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported that Ochocinco had “lingering issues with the playbook.”

It’s fair to ask why, if Ochocinco couldn’t grasp the offense in New England, he was able to play well enough in Cincinnati’s offense to have seven 1,000-yard seasons with the Bengals. But there’s word out of Cincinnati that he had those issues there, too: According to Bengals.com, T.J. Houshmandzadeh used to have to tell Ochocinco where to line up. Bengals.com also says some in Cincinnati believe Ochocinco never played as hard again after Browns safety Brian Russell drilled him in the 2006 home opener, although that explanation is a bit hard to swallow, considering that Ochocinco started all 16 games in both 2006 and 2007 and had a career-high 1,440 receiving yards in 2007.

Maybe getting cut by New England will spur Ochocinco to work harder in the classroom if he catches on with another team, or maybe he’ll find a team whose offense is easier for him to grasp than the Patriots’ playbook. But everyone seems to agree that Ochocinco’s biggest problem in New England was simply that he never learned the offense.
Here is the most thorough BIOGRAPHY of Chad Johnson I've ever read. Sadly, his reluctance to put work into studying was a magnanimous problem and detriment to him throughout his school years..........and, now the same habits have seemingly come back to kick him. As age creeps up on a WR, sheer athleticism must somewhat step aside to a smidgeon of becoming a wiser more learned student of the game...........and the playbook.

Actually, you really can't blame Chad. With his learning problems, spelling can be one of many arduous tasks.............when presented with reading materials, "Playbook" can look so much like "Playboy"..........

This is what I've been trying to say. Adam Schefter talked about it this morning and said that it had nothing to do with his "ability". It had everything to do with him having a low football IQ. It's a shame that he hasn't put the effort into football that he has promoting himself, and I hope that young receivers can take something from this. The guy worked his butt off in the weight room and training to keep his body in the best physical condition. Its sad that he allowed his brain to stay behind.

While I tend to agree with you that it's overblown that he's a lockerroom cancer, I think that HoF jacket showboat incident says a lot about the guy.

I just think of Andre doing that, and it's not something I can even imagine.

There is a mentality there that just doesn't jive in a team sport. Endzone celebrations are no big deal to me. Just celebrating and entertainment.

But, preparing a fake HoF jacket days (weeks) before a game, taking and hiding it on the sideline, and then immediately running to it after a score to ensure cameras are rolling...well, that's just beyond normal "Billy Whiteshoes" showboating. That reveals a very narcissistic personality. It's one thing to be a clown (like Barwin), but quite another to be so damn consistent with the attention whore attitude.

Dude should have been studying playbook instead of sewing a fake jacket.

This really bugs me at the pro level.

It's one thing if a guy is just dumb - i.e. VY - but Chad Johnson reminds me of someone else *cough*HWWNBN*cough* that had the talent but just refused to apply himself to the mental aspect of the game through hard work and dedication.

In my mind, having a shot to play at the elite NFL level is not something to be taken for granted. Some of these players seem to act like it's not the privilege that it is in the end. Just my perception, of course, but it's being confirmed from a variety of sources.

I'd take JJ over this guy, and I want nothing to do with JJ on the Texans.

As a kid, Chad developed a healthy appetite for sports—but he had no interest in schoolwork and possessed zero attention span and almost no impulse control. He crashed the family car at age 10 and defended his actions by saying he was taking it to the carwash.
Making it to class was another matter. Chad did not see a connection between success on the field and even a minimal academic effort. He regularly cut classes and was always behind in his schoolwork. It didn’t help that many of his teachers gave him a pass. As so often happens with young athletes, the favor they thought they were doing for him would later turn out to be a curse.

Chad got his high school degree by the skin of his teeth. Although he was recruited by top programs, including Miami and Florida State, he didn’t have the grades to get in to virtually any school. In fact, he had to take night classes the summer after his senior year just to graduate. With his college options severely limited, he ended up at Langston University, an NAIA school in Oklahoma with a decent football squad.

Chad reported to the Langston campus in the late summer of 1996. That was pretty much the last time he was seen in an academic building. A no-show in the classroom, he was eventually kicked out of school for fighting. Chad made the mistake of assuming that college would be like high school—the teachers would just move him along for the good of the team.

Bessie, a former teacher and counselor in the Miami school system, knew Chad was headed nowhere—and fast. She told him that he had to go to school and suggested he live with his mother in Los Angeles and attend Santa Monica College, which had a good football program. Chad joined the Corsairs in 1997 and played beside Steve Smith, a future All-Pro receiver who was flying under the college football radar, too. (The two remain close friends to this day. Smith calls Chad “The Entertainer.") Also on the squad was Eugene Sykes, who later found a home in the Arena Football League. Whenever a Corsair scored, a touchdown dance would follow.

While it seemed he was on the right path, Chad took another giant step backward when he came up a credit short and had to miss the 1998 season. At a low point, he started to think that the stars were aligned against him. Once again, Bessie intervened. She told Chad to get his grades back in shape and play football for Santa Monica again in 1999. Finally, he was starting to understand the connection between school and football.
Still 18 credits short of OSU's academic requirements, Chad had to crack the books and increase his course load in order to qualify for a four-year college. He had to skip spring practice with the Beavers and didn’t actually join the team until three weeks before the 2001 season started.
Chad also benefited from playing with fellow wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh, a future teammate in the NFL. They roomed together for road games, and the pony-tailed wideout flashed Chad hand signals from across the field in the early going so Chad knew what the plays were.

Chad Ochocinco joins Dolphins

MIAMI -- Out of work and not ready to retire, Chad Ochocinco found a job back in his hometown.

The former Pro Bowl receiver signed with the Miami Dolphins on Monday, four days after being released by the New England Patriots.

Walker The marriage of Chad Ochocinco and the Miami Dolphins may not work out but it will certainly be worth watching, writes James Walker. Blog

The signing came after Ochocinco had a tryout with the Dolphins, who are thin at the position and dropping a lot of passes in offseason drills. He's likely to join the team for this week's OTAs, which continue through Wednesday.

"Congrats to Chad," tweeted his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. "It's nice to come home."

The 34-year-old Ochocinco, a Miami native, made the Pro Bowl six times, most recently in 2009. He had only a minor role in his lone season with the Patriots, catching 15 passes for 276 yards.

The Dolphins traded Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall to the Chicago Bears in March for two third-round draft picks, and didn't draft a receiver until the sixth round. Following a practice Monday, coach Joe Philbin conceded there has been room for improvement in the pass-catching during offseason workouts.

"You would like to have some players make it easy and distinguish themselves, maybe make the picture a little bit clearer," Philbin said. "We have to catch the ball more consistently at every position on offense, because it is not quite where it needs to be."

Marshall's off-field issues wore on the Dolphins, and Ochocinco can be high-maintenance, too. His antics have sometimes annoyed his teammates and coaches, and his touchdown celebrations led to an NFL crackdown.

In his career, Ochocinco has caught 766 passes for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns. All of the Dolphins' returning receivers have less than a dozen career TDs.

To make room for Ochocinco, Miami waived center Terence Brown.

Go Texans!
Our first game is at home vs. the Dolphins.

Unless we completely snooze on this game, there's no reason why we can't hang 50 points on the Dolphins. That team is worse every year.

And now they have a mental midget at WR (Chad PincheHoto) in whom I guarantee you the Dolphins' o-coord will try to target on almost every pass play against us. It should be delicious. For the Texans, that is.

If we lose that first game against the Dolphins, it's a bad omen for us. Because there's no way we should lose to that team on opening day.

Chad Ochocinco's Fiancee Disses Him After He Gets Cut From Patriots

Chad OchocincoMamasLatinas writer Michelle Regalado reveals that Chad Ochocinco has got himself one feisty fiancee!

Chad Ochocinco, soon-to-be husband of Puerto Rican reality star Evelyn Lozada, is saying farewell to the New England Patriots! The team released receiver Ochocinco on Thursday, cutting loose the six-time Pro Bowl selection after only one season. So what does this mean for the couple and their show, Ev & Ocho?

Well, Lozada herself sure doesn't seem to be too worried. After the news broke, she took to Twitter, saying:

Aww baby you got cut @ochocinco I got your back! I'm the bread winner now, which means I make the rules! #Boom.

The tweet apparently didn't go over very well with her followers since a short while later, she followed up with another,

If you don't get my humor with @ochocinco then F off! Not meant for you to 'understand' #Smooches.

Yikes! Having seen her outbursts on Basketball Wives, I would not want to mess with Lozada!

He wasn't a cancer?? You think taking a punch at your HC and shoving your OC in the middle of half time in a playoff game isn't being a cancer?? Hell what does a guy have to do in order to become a cancer to you than? Shoot someone on the team maybe? Sorry, but the guy was unquestionably a cancer and one of the biggest in the league. He got that label for years for the dozens of penalties he caused their team with the end zone dances he wasn't supposed to be doing, the many attempts before games to get attention, the constant bickering he caused with Carson Palmer about wanting the ball more, and the constant insubordinate actions against his HC.

Not only that He has been a cancer on every team throughout his entire career. They showed a documentary on Chad Johnson going all the way back to his HS days, and literally every team he played for he had problems with his HC.

A response filled with insults instead of a proper rebuttal? Why am I not surprised after you did this the last time you spouted stuff like this that was challenged. We have rules against name calling by the way. If you can't hang in a discussion without having a meltdown, I'd suggest discussing your spin efforts for Chad Johnson on a Cincinatti Bengals board. I'm sure you'll get a fine welcome over there as they'll find this stuff as amusing as I have.

And Chad hasn't worked his butt off in years. Hell the guy even said that himself on ESPN First Take to Skip freaking Bayless who was one of his biggest critics. All you did was make a ton of excuses for him in NE for why he couldn't contribute when he was literally brought over there to be a deep threat on a team that has had a lot of guys have big seasons over there, and Chad couldn't see the field for several reasons. And IF the biggest reason was because he couldn't learn the play book after being in the league for like 10 years, than he couldn't have been trying that hard if so many other WR's have come and gone over there and done just fine. Hell, Randy freaking Moss who is known as being one of the most lazy guys of all time went there and figured it all out just fine on his way to a record breaking season. The difference was that Randy was actually motivated at the time and HE COULD STILL PLAY. Chad could not. Chad was also not some #2 WR in Cinci. He was their #1 guy there, and Terrell Owens just clearly outplayed him and put up better numbers.

And yeah, Chad was never that great of a route runner. He was known more as an athletic bad ass with a ton of speed and explosiveness at the ball in Cinci, but he was never some remarkable route runner.

I stand by my words!!!! I haven't made any excuses for him. I'm saying the same thing analysts and teammates have been saying about him. He's a dope for not getting his head in the playbook more and applying his craft mentally. Again, learn to read and do some research, and then come talk to me. Obviously you have a clear problem with that. If you have a problem with being called a joke or clown, then you need to work harder on not being one. Take a lesson from Chad!

No, knock off the name calling. In the future entire posts will be deleted. Attack the post, not the poster.
Ok, the post was a joke and clownish. Anyone who says Chad was never a good route runner obviously knows nothing about the guy. He ran a 4.54 coming out of OSU. There were plenty of other receivers who were better than him athletically. He was always known for his ability to get in and out of his breaks better than almost anyone in the league.

When mentally challenged people such as yourself call people names because they can't get people to agree with them, it's no sweat off my back. You're just showing your own mental breakdowns partner. Do as you wish, but you're breaking forum rules just so ya know.

And I keep wondering what you have watched for the last few years because Chad Johnson hasn't backed up jack that he talked before the last few seasons other than one in 2009 which was 3 years ago for crying out loud. Every season he talked like he was going to be some big time weapon before the season started and this is what he came up with.

2008 - 540 yards 4 TD's in 13 games

2009 - 1,047 yards 9 TD's - This was actually the season where he did perform even after "publicly admitting" that he didn't work that hard in the 2008 season and that he dogged it because he tried to force a trade and didn't get his wish.

2010 - 831 yards 4 TD's

2011 - 276 yards 1 TD - On what was arguably the best offense in the league and had been the season before. Chad was given every opportunity to thrive on this team.

That's one good season out of the last four seasons with his last season being atrocious on a bad team, so spare me and others with this crap about telling others to know what they're talking about. Child Please!!

In 2008, he played through injuries the entire year. Never made any excuses while he was out there playing. I guess Andre sucks after being banged up most of the year too right.

2009, he put up the stats he did while playing on a team that featured the run with Benson and lost probably the only legit threat on the other side of him in Chris Henry. Dogging it or not, he did his job and produced for the team.

2010, Terrell Owens came to the team and got the Lion's share of the pass attempts. He never complained about that and produced numbers that any #2 receiver would be happy to produce. We would be doing back flips if another receiver outside of Andre produced these numbers for our team this year.

We've already discussed last year. You conveniently want to ignore every analyst that's stated that him not producing had nothing to do with his ability. Your ability to accept that leads me to call you the things I have. You've also failed to produce these quotes that have me saying I wanted him to come here. You making up these lies about me I will absolutely not put up with. There are also plenty of articles that talk about how great of a route runner Chad has been. This coming from players and coaches. It's called google. Learn to use it.

Wording it that way doesn't change your inability to carry on a civil discussion without the insults, but whatever.

And for the record, here is an actual article being reported from the Patriots camp stating that he couldn't run their routes. The freaking title of the article clearly states
"Chad Ochocinco reportedly had trouble with routes"

Greg A. Bedard of The Boston Globe spoke to multiple sources over the course of last season who claimed Ochocinco just didn't get it. Coaches would instruct Ochocinco on how to run a route, only to have him forget minutes later.

If you're going to tell me that some amazing route runner that could put up all of these multiple 100 yard seasons in Cinci couldn't figure out basic routes on a team that dozens of other WR's including Randy Moss could, than sorry, but you're way off. If you watched Chad at all in Cinci, he would argue with Palmer all of the time because he frequently freelanced all over the field and they couldn't get on the same page at times. The minute he went to a very fine structured offense where actual "route running" is essential to getting open, he couldn't do it. These same criticisms used to be existent in cinci at times, but you obviously didn't pay that close attention.

That doesn't say anything about his route running ability!!!! Dude, you're making my point for me. I said that the dude has a low football IQ and that's why I wouldn't want him here. But he has always been known as a great route runner. Him not being able to remember his playbook and routes has nothing to do with his ability.

Yet nothing defines Johnson's impact as well as smooth route-running and his separation from coverage in the open field.

"I don't know too many guys in the league who can get in and out of breaks like he does," Bengals receivers coach Hue Jackson says. "He's right up there with Marvin Harrison."
You saying that he couldn't remember his playbook or plays does nothing but reinforce everything that most people on here including myself have already been saying. But some people are too stubborn to admit such a thing apparently.

Don't ever disgrace Andre Johnson and compare him to Chad Johnson first of all.

Secondly he publicly admitted that he dogged it in that season, but you probably aren't even aware about that. He spent that entire off season before that season demanding to be traded, not showing up at camp, and refusing to practice. His teammates and the fans pretty much expected Chad to pack it in that season and he did. Here are a few remarks from his own QB from around that time.

"It's too late to salvage this. People just don't understand how bad it has gotten. Last year, in a team meeting before a game...coaches asked if anyone had a problem with Chad. Carson Palmer stood up and said, "yea, I have a problem with him". Chad and Carson began arguing. Chad was screaming at Carson in the middle of the room"

Chad was the #1 WR there. TO didn't just show up and take his position. TO just played a lot better and produced. Putting up 800 yards as a #1 WR is not good at all no matter how badly you want to try and keep acting like he was a #2 WR. He had been the #1 guy there for years.

We're not talking about one bad season. We're talking about THREE out of four bad seasons in his last recent four seasons. Sorry, but this is nothing but spin on your part as the facts of his production or lack there of speak for itself. And that's not to mention his long trail of off the field nonsense that has irritated teammates and shown that his focus was on his personal promotion more than his commitment to the team.

You're saying I'm spinning things my way. I say you're spinning things your way. This is going no where because obviously we see things differently. The only thing I'll leave you with is never put words into my mouth and say I said something if you can't back it up. I told you this before, and I'll tell you again. Respect me and I'll respect you. Lying on me is not respecting me.
