Need some help with a football survey

I am in the beginning stages of a project I am working on with a couple of NFL people and I wanted to see if you would answer some survey questions that could help us understand what the public would want. I have sent some individual emails to some of you, but would love to get as much feedback from Texans fans as possible so I figured I would come right to the best source for that.

If you can, you can, please copy and paste this survey into email and send it to me at: sidelineview@gmail.com and just BOLD your answers. Once we get the project moving, I will ask some of you to be testers for us. Thanks, LZ.


On a scale of 1 - 5 (1 - not interested at all , 2 - not that interested, 3 - somewhat interested, 4 - very interested, 5 - extremely interested):


1. Do you have interest in an online product that would use former and current NFL personnel to teach you the concepts and X's and O's of football in video format? (Please BOLD the appropriate number)

2. Would you be interested in this product if it was offered as a series of videos that you could access from your computer whenever you wanted?

8. Would you be interested in a series of live classes (3-5) that would stream online that allowed you to learn from a former NFL GM on how to evaluate talent and run an NFL team and would allow you to interact through chat?

9. If interested, what amount would spend for that 3-5 live streaming class taught by a former NFL GM? What day and time would be best for this class?

Excellent idea. I'm probably not all that interested personally because I just don't have the time neccessary to dig into something like that with a FT job and a franchise business to boot - but I love the concept and idea for hard core fans and with the right target audience I think you have something.

How about other TT members?

Honestly, I'd love a "meeting-type" setting like Football 101 for the ladies.

Hell, call it Football 201.

I'd think you'd get a bigger turnout than you'd imagine. It would also appeal to the blue-collar crowd that can't afford to attend the touchdown club type events.

I had more fun picking Eric Winston's brain for an hour than I did attending several luncheons.

Just a thought...
 
Feel free to leave any input on here if you like as opposed to sending an email. I really appreciate you guys sending your thoughts. I've been blown away by two of the concepts that have come in already. Very smart football crowd as always.

Could we start by getting rid of John Mclaim and Anna Boobz from the Crapical's historically poor football coverage ?



Man I miss the Houston Post ......:foottap: Competition breeds success.
 
I mean if it's lessons from scouts so that you can get a job to be a scout, that would be cool, Scout University lol...5. If it's learn x/o's for my own personal satisfaction, then there's plenty of football books around. About a 2-3 there.

Yeah. Lord help me, there just aren't many quality sports journalists here.

MANY?!? DID I SAY MMMMMMMANY?

Drop that M and go with any. John McEffort and the best looking chick that would associate with that noise just don't cut it. But it's not just paper or blogs...TV personalities...radio guys (no offense LZ, yours is about the only show I can handle anyway). We used to cut the TV off to listen to Gene Peterson or Milo Hamilton. Mark vandenBlah is a bore to listen to and most national guys are clowns. The best Texans coverage is Drew Daugherty on Texans TV and even then...it's not much. I mean a couple minutes worth a day. Sometimes a decent segment, some Podcasts...

There is a strong Texans following here and it's only going to grow as they get better. Seems like there is at least some market there, with little to no real competition.

That was my suggestion. Joe Fan is probably not his target market for the above. But if they did football 201 and 301 a lot of us would be interested.

Maybe 1 class on offense, 1 one defense, 1 on special teams, something like that.
 
That sounds like an awesome idea. I know some posters here are into the X's and O's of football, and having something like this available would be great.

Personally, it's not for me because I'm not that interested in the technical aspects of football. But I can totally see something like this becoming popular.

I personally think it is a good idea. You could certainly appeal to the more football savvy fanbase. Just for an average person watching football though, I don't think they would necessarily see it as a need.

When I first started into the more technical part of the sport I read pages upon pages of concept books written by multiple NFL and college coaches. Along with playbooks, which most old ones share a wealth of information. Before I got to TCU I read probably around 400 to 500 pages of 4-2-5 defense concept books and multiple playbooks from different teams.

It would make it much simpler if these were in video format though. I see myself more as a visual learner and I think most people do too. This type of program would be worth some good money though, and you are certainly hitting a large percentage of people.

Lynn Lashbrook, has been around for awhile as has SMWW, but we are going to be offering interaction with former NFL GMs, coaches and scouts. It is going to be information and curriculum that is created, in part, by the feedback from this kind of survey and the people who answer it.
 
The things that get talked about the most are the draft , training camp , how players are doing in the season .

There's a bunch of draft sites but a local one about primarily the Texans needs or local talent would be cool . Some of these guys make new mocks every week and nobody has worked out but players move up and down . I think player evaluations for a 3-4 and a ZBS would be great . I would like this because I don't do the film thing I just look for size , vertical , 10 yd split , and did he have a lot of sacks in college for an OLB as an example .

Training camp info and opinions by someone other than reporters would be great . That's when you start revving up for the season and i like hearing about the rooks . This would make me happier than Bill in a vat of vodka .

Monday morning analysis by experts on what happened or where / who the team needs to upgrade would be a hot topic . I like talk radio and I listen to The Big Show , but sometimes I just want to know who is screwing up or playing great in y'alls opinion .

Lance did you not post something like this abiout a year ago? I think it was about having some NFL types come in to one of the hotels and do some teaching. Maybe this is next step?

He did. I was disappointed not to have ever heard anything back about that. I just figured the idea died or it was an ultra exclusive event.

I did. Great memory! Yes, we are starting the ball rolling, but with a much larger product in scope in mind. You guys are the first set of surveys that I'm interested in. From here, I'll hit other football fans as well as draftniks and even sports writers to find out what people are clamoring for.

Every survey I get back will be printed and your ideas/thoughts will be presented to the NFL people who are leaning on me to create the site while they provide the content. They honestly can't believe that there is this much interest from fans about what it is that they do, but I've been preaching for years that fans are getting smarter and hungry from more and more knowledge about the game beyond the basics. They want to learn more and more football.

I was prepared to get it started last year but just got too busy to put it together. However, what we talked about is what I'm working on. I'm hoping it gets off the ground because it would be ready by this fall and would be of great interest to football fans.

Just adding that I think there is a market for quality X's and O's based on my own personal experience. For instance, lots of poor kids and middle income kids can't go to an expensive football camp and HS football coaches only have so much time in the day for all their kids to address technique and 'football theory' so to speak....bottom line is there is a huge gap in available (quality) teaching here.

I have a 16YO Soph HS football player that doesn't get much more technique taught to him other than his assignment and a few basics. The HS has gone to HUDL.com this season and breaking down his scrimmage footage has been invaluable with all the tools on the website. I know a little about what I'm talking about so I don't need much commentary, but if you guys (for instance) could break down plays with some of the tools they use on this site with some educated commentary it would be a good thing for the common-Joe Dad who doesn't know his X's and O's any better than his kid. HUDL.com is so awesome since we can critique his play, the other guys playing his position and watch how the linebackers and safetys flow to the ball so he can find his target easier (He does a lot of pulling in the La Porte Oline). I sit down and go John Madden on him with the telestrator tool. :) (teaching him not to reach for blocks and to keep his shoulders over his feet constantly is a patience building exercise for me)
