I bet it was discussed during the Demeco trade. Not that the "Pick Value Chart" is entirely accurate... it's a decent "guideline". The value we got for Demeco roughly equates to the 85th pick (22nd pick in the 3rd round). Tennessee owns the 82nd (19th pick in the 3rd round).

Philly went from having 3rd (76) and 4th (99) to having 3rd (82) and 3rd (88). And clearly Demeco instead of Samuel.
I bet Philly had been in talks with both of us and like this value better. I can't say that I blame them. On the Texans front we'd have to take Samuel's salary though ($9.4M and $11.4M during 2012 and 2013, respectively). Smith balked big time at that.
Makes sense from both Philly and Texans standpoints. Philly dumps Samuels salary and gets a cheaper Demeco (half the cost). MLB was a big need for them plus I like their draft selections better after both trades. Philly did GREAT.

That would have gone against the reason for trading Demeco, which frees up 9 million next year. This will help us not endure the same off season next year as we are doing now. Asante Samuel has like a 10 million plus cap hit each of the next 2 years.

It would have hurt us a lot next season, DeMeco's trade cost us $750k more than his cap hit next year, you add in Samuel's salary and it suddenly looks like a difficult trade to make.
Its a tough time for the franchise, not one that needs to derail it, stick with the plan and if we can keep hold of most of what we've got we'll be OK.
You also have to take into account the fact that the Eagles have felt themselves capable of upgrading Samuel twice over, take from that what you will.

Not no, but HELL no. 9.5 million a year for Asante? That would run us over the cap this year and screw up our plans to re-sign good people next year. Every dollar we spend this year is a dollar less that we have to use next year. The "cap" is rolling, so savings in 2012 = savings indefinitely.
He's going to be cut if he's not traded. If he's cut, let's talk about it, but he better be willing to take a pay cut.

Am I the only one getting nervous about Tenn's under the radar off-season if they facilitate this trade?
They signed Hutch so maybe CJ can run himself out of a wet paper bag this year and then get a guy with a much better skillset to replace Finnegan in their secondary?

Any idea how much? I kinda doubt he would be willing to cut that number in half down to 5 mill a year. I would guess he wants Carlos Rodgers type money, which was ~7 mill per year. He's still good, and on the market, a team with a lot of money like the Bengals or Jags would probably spend a lot on him.

I saw that he was willing to restructure his contract, which only helps you in the present as it pushes money to the upcoming years.

Haha, that would give him all the leverage. The team spends a 2nd or 3rd to acquire him, then he says "I want 7 mill a year for 4 years with 15 mill gtd!", and the team is stuck. No thanks.

It's looking less likely the Titans add him (or more correctly, it looks like it never was likely):
He's not bad, but he's not close to worth what he's scheduled to be paid, and with the cap looking to stay pretty much flat through at least 2013, restructuring to push money into the future doesn't really do much for most teams (especially the Texans).

Since he left the Patriots, after he won a Super Bowl with them, he has done nothing near what he and his agent were advertising him as.
Every year, the Super Bowl winning team has an exodus of quality players who all think THEY were the reason for the SB win. Asante Samuel being THE poster child for that line of thinking.
Titans are in trouble no matter what they do. Because they have the TEXANS to deal with in 2012. Let them sign Samuel. We used 2nd and 3rd stringers in the final home game and almost beat them.
