Why didn't we just trade D Ryans for Samuel? That would have been perfect
I bet it was discussed during the Demeco trade. Not that the "Pick Value Chart" is entirely accurate... it's a decent "guideline". The value we got for Demeco roughly equates to the 85th pick (22nd pick in the 3rd round). Tennessee owns the 82nd (19th pick in the 3rd round).Read on KFFL that Titans are going to trade a 3rd round pick for Asante Samuel. Dang, can't we trade for that? Would it be wise?
Show me the money! That would have been a swap and done nothing for next season which is why Ryans was traded. Why didn't we just trade D Ryans for Samuel? That would have been perfect

Not no, but HELL no. 9.5 million a year for Asante? That would run us over the cap this year and screw up our plans to re-sign good people next year. Every dollar we spend this year is a dollar less that we have to use next year. The "cap" is rolling, so savings in 2012 = savings indefinitely.
He's going to be cut if he's not traded. If he's cut, let's talk about it, but he better be willing to take a pay cut.
He already has said he's willing to negotiate a new contract once traded

I saw that he was willing to restructure his contract, which only helps you in the present as it pushes money to the upcoming years.
The Titans aren’t on the verge of trading for Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel, and any interest in the four-time Pro Bowler is lukewarm at best. On Wednesday night, CSNPhilly.com reported a deal between the Titans and Eagles could be reached within the next few days.
LINKBut the Titans, despite losing cornerback Cortland Finnegan in free agency, won’t give up a conditional third-round pick, as the report suggested. And despite Samuel’s willingness to re-do his deal, the Titans won’t be willing to pay him a hefty price either.
Titans are in trouble no matter what they do. Because they have the TEXANS to deal with in 2012. Let them sign Samuel. We used 2nd and 3rd stringers in the final home game and almost beat them.
