This D has one leader and his name ain't DeMeco

House of Pain

Wild Speculator
With all due respect to DR, who has been one of my favorite players since his arrival. When the Texans were ****ty, I knew it made him as mad as me. Yes, DeMeco was the leader of the Texans' Defense. However, I believe that this team has a leader and he's still under contract. His name is Wade Phillips.

This team plays for Wade. He's turned the defense around in less than a year. New players will enter a team where they have an identity and are expected to perform, instead of trying to establish an identity for the first time in their team's history. Give him some credit: he even taught Gary how to have real practices.

Do you know what heals the scars of losing favorite teammates to players on this team? Winning.

If last year's coaching is any indication of the status quo, then I think the Texans will do just fine, and hopefully the "Texodus" took care of the majority of the problems with our cap for the years going forward.

Come on y'all, can we at least wait until they are 'choking' games away in the preseason before we start throwing this organization under the bus?

Haven't you heard? Success on the field isn't that important anymore. Jerseys with your favorite player's name is.

Nobody has said that. Good Lord. You people really take this hyperbolic **** to a new level huh.

Wade is the leader, and Cushing and Watt are the field leaders now.

Yes winning cures all. We all know that, anyone that has watched any team sport for over 3 years should know that.

Some of us think that the loss of Demeco will make it harder for the team to win though...

More complex than this; Jonathan Joseph is leader of DBs imo. I agree with Phillips being the leader that entire defense looks to. He guides them, settles them, refocuses and encourages them.

That's why I've always regretted buying that Charles Hill jersey .

After my $230.00 "SHARPER" jersey, I went this route:

That said, I thought I was the "smart guy", but NOW the NFL is going from Reebok to Nike....

DUDE, I don't wanna buy three more custom jerseys (in addition to the original Sharper jersey)... FML!!

He's got a pretty bad ass polo you could buy then take to the mall and have stitched up. Let me know how that works for ya, bro!

Apparently I must spread rep to other users before giving it to Fiasco West again.

or I could just buy me a Texans shirt or two . I have a # 90 jersey but I like a Texans T shirt better . I really like a Texans baseball cap in red .

I hear ya......I have authentic jerseys and I am not going to buy new jerseys just because they change companies and maybe the design is different.

I know some people want to get new ones with the 10 year patch on it. I would rather get the 10 year patch and sew it to my authentic jerseys I have and not have to buy the new jerseys too.

FYI, I think the Project Runway All Stars finale is tonight.

Typical younger generation's way of thinking!! We don't need leadership, we KNOW IT ALL!! We'll just do our own THANG cause ain't NOBODY gonna tell us what to do!!! Geeeezzzz!! All "chiefs and no indians" type of attitude leads to FAILURE!! JMO!!

In reality the younger generation does have leaders, or they'd all be wandering around in disarray. There isn't enough variety in clothing style, hip electronics, music, etc. to prove that they aren't mostly followers.

This isn't a knock. It's like every generation before them.

===========================

To the point of his post, I disagree that they don't need leaders. Any group organized to attain a goal should have them to be effective, especially in an environment as competitive as the NFL.

 people around here act like DeMeco was the only leader we had on the team... The title of this thread isn't even correct, because without Demeco we still have multiple leaders on defense. Last I checked Cushing was voted in as a captain mid season and Watt will most likely wear a C on his jersey next season..

Cushing
Watt
Smith
Joseph
Manning

All leaders... Demeco was simply the leader of leaders, because he was the elder statesman, but the torch has been passed and people need to get over it.

I very much agree with the first part, but I think you misunderstood me in my OP. I'm not saying they don't 'need' leaders, I'm saying that a new leader will emerge because Wade makes the right calls (thus far).

I agree new leaders will emerge.

I disagreed with Norg's post, not yours. I was unclear about that.

When I hit major jersey re-sellers I see Williams, Ryans, and Slatton??? Really!! No respect. This is NFL Shop..FansEdge..etc..not mom and pop.

They do already have the new Peyton 'Broke Neck Mountain' Manning Jersey for the pony fans. There is a Jake 'Real Mountain Man' Gyllenhaal halo graphic imposed on the rear of the jersey with a pointer that says 'poke here'.

Could someone Photoshop that one up for future use when we go to Mile High??

D. Man was interviewed the other day right after the DeMeco announcement. He said it's a tough loss, but they will get over it and new leadership will emerge through OTAs and training camp. He considers himself one of the players that has to step up in a leadership role, and he sounded ready for the job and ready to lead this team to the playoffs again.

I will miss DeMeco, but this is today's NFL. Actually, it's been this way in the NFL for decades, but this is the first off-season after playoffs for Houston Texans fans, and in today's day and age of salary caps and free agency, this is the way it is for successful teams.

Accept it, live with it, and get ready to root your asses off for the 2012 Texans! :texflag:

I know this would be an unpopular opinion with most fans, but why do grown men buy jerseys with some kid's name on them anyway? To me, if you're out of college, you have no business wearing a jersey with someone else's name on it. And putting your own name on a jersey is just a little too weird for me (sorry, Texan Bill) if you're not on the team.

Yep, right after I heard that are GM and coaches are perennial winners who can replace any number of starters at whim without any appreciable dropoff.

People have different views on stuff, and I don't try to rub my views off on anyone else. I get you feeling that way, but some people like to wear Jerseys with players names on them. Not a big deal. And really no need to be condescending towards them.

I don't know, I like them. I wear one every friday to work during football season (It's kind of an office-wide thing) and I wear one on Sunday even if I'm just sitting at home by myself watching the game.

I think I have "business" wearing anything I feel like wearing and I've noticed a distinct case of "I don't give a rat's posterior what anyone else thinks" settling in as I get older. I wear what I want and don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

The cost of jerseys is insane. I buy fakes because I think that $25 is about all they're worth to me. The real ones are grossly overpriced in my opinion.

I have a couple of the real $200+ ones but I bought them on ebay used. My Blue Schaub was a Carr #8. The other one I have is entirely blank now. It was a Boselli that I'm turning into one with my name on it.

In this last batch of players moving I had one jersey go "redundent" on me. My Mario Williams jersey is now DOA. I'm out $25 so no big deal.

Not trying to be condescending, sorry if I came across that way. Just wanted to see what people thought. Most people I know feel similarly to me, but I see thousands of jerseys at games every Sunday.

I still wear hats, shirts, and sweaters with team's logo on it, btw.

Again, sorry if I sounded condescending.

I know that feeling very well. :) Not trying to tell anyone what to do. Just wanted to hear opinions.

I have a Battle Red #80 jersey, but cannot wear it because we lose every time I wear it. Just the worse feeling in the world. I'll go with a standard Texans t-shirt one Sunday, we win. So I crack out the AJ jersey the next week and we lose.

Then my head starts spinning..."Do I wear the t-shirt next week?" So I wear the shirt the next Sunday and we win. FML.

In 2011, when we went on the winning streak...the AJ jersey stayed locked up at a location my wife wouldn't tell me of. That way I had no chance to ruin the streak even if I wanted to. :(

Honestly, I feel the same way that you do about the jersey stuff...

I don't know if it's because I played ball for so long or what, but I just don't feel right wearing a guys name on my back...

I'm like you...I only wear shirts that say Texans or hats or something...

Hate that feeling. I've got a couple of jerseys that are "verboten" because they're tied to bad losses in my mind.

I have even tried wearing the t-shirt UNDER the jersey, no dice. We still lose.

Isn't it funny how random those types of things are? I know that I'm not actively influencing the outcome of the game, yet the odd coincidence of how it keeps happening is just comical.

Honestly, I agree on Demeco being the elder statesman of the defense.

The reality is the moment Brian Cushing stepped on the field the whole attitude of the defense changed. It wasn't until last year when they had a capable D Coord did we see results, but Cushing's attitude has seeped into the rest of the team.

I know many people feel the same way about walking billboards for multi-billion dollar entertainment companies that you do about jerseys.

You walk around with a corporate logo plastered all over yourself and feel good about it. Some walk around with a player or personalized jersey and feel good about. Personally, I do both and consider it part of being a FANATIC. It's fun, it's pointless, and sometimes things in life do not have to have any other purpose than you like it.

I know people who think fanatics for pro sports teams are goofy. I sometimes feel that way about adults and their alma maters.

To each his own.

I live by this creed:

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

I could not care less about what people think about me, including those that I deeply care about. I am who I am and vugg people if they don't like it. We'll all be dead in a 100 years so don't sweat the small stuff. :howdy:

#85 White one with my last name on it

and a #02 Texans Blue one

i wanna get a red one but dont know what to put on it i was thinking "Rage" would be cool something to do with battle red and the color red ... LOL
