2006 Free agents?

I would've thought the greatest improvement (in the short term) in the O-Line would come not from a bunch of rookies but from some proven players. With this in mind, does anyone know of any possible free agent acquisitions the Texans could make in the off-season?

Tony Fonoti - G - Minnesota Vikings - Age 24 - Huge

Isn't this the guy who could be mentally ill? Based on the really low price he went to Minnesota for (What was it? a 6 or 7) I think the Texans have no interest in him or they would have gone ahead and test drove him this season. If they're going to sign another free agent lineman I'd prefer they go out and get themselves a real veteran center.

Really I'm thinking that if we draft one of the big LT's then you put Pitts back at LG where he needs to be anyway (This current mixing up of the o-line is nothing but a desperate act on the part of some coaches who are soon to be job hunting). That gives us the following:

LT - Brick (or one of the talented guys coming out this year)
LG - Pitts back where he belongs.
C - Free Agent Veteran
RG - Best of McKinney, Brown, Weigert, Weary
RT - Wade

Wand backs up the tackles and Riley goes somewhere else. With different coaching I'm willing to bet that most of these guys start to perform. We need a LT who can get it done and a C who's an absolute rock in the middle. The rest will take care of itself.

Casserly will trade away our entire draft for someone we've never heard of -- and a future third rounder. Impact free agents will be only a dream since our cap will be consumed by stupid contracts, e.g., Walker, Wade, Smith, McKinney, Wiegert, Greenwood, et al and the bonuses given to guys like Carr, Pitts, and Wong. Then there's other minor details like the possiblity of not re-doing Gaffney and letting him go UFA. Our road to recovery will be delayed one year for every year that Casserly remains GM.

I second that. Cass has proven that he is not getting the job done along with Capers. It is Capers job to make the players play up to and past their abilities and it is up to Casserly to bring in the right guys to execute and perform. Neither has done their job now for 4 years. There better not be a fifth.

It keeps sounding like McNair is not going to get rid of him. I really think that Casserly must have his lips permanently tattooed to McNairs *** so he stays on the A list

I agree with you completely, AJ. That's why I hope that incompetent fool gets fired. The sooner, the better.

The interesting thing is this: If we had anybody else as GM during this tough time and Casserly was available, for some reason I have a sense that everybody would be begging to hire the very guy you want to fire!

Damn just a new line huh Hulk. I agree eventhough I think we have a pretty good RT right now. The rest can go.

Wade?? He has underpreformed since he arrived. He is a mamoth and lacks foot speed and overall skill. He is a younger Victor Rilley.
