Calvin Johnson's contract is the richest deal ever handed out in the NFL, exceeding the $120 million deal given to Larry Fitzgerald.

It actually reduces his cap hit for the coming year, giving the Lions some room to work with in FA. Pretty immense deal but the guy is well worth it.

If there is one WR in the league right now worth that kind of money it is him. But that`s still a lot of money - he isn`t just barely the highest paid WR in the league, he gets 10 mil more than Fitz in one less year. That`s just crazy. It might come back to bite them in the ass some day when they find themselves in cap hell...

Geez that nearly doubles AJ's contract from just 2 YEARS AGO! This market now is ridiculous.

I have to agree with this comment. He might be considered worth that price to some right now but he's one injury away from putting them in cap hell.

If I'm an NFL franchise and I have to give that deal to ANYONE in the league, I choose Calvin Johnson.

They don't know how awesome it's going to be to have him for the next 8 years. Well, as a Texans fan it's been even better having AJ, as our QB situation hasn't been Matthew Stafford starting for the next decade - but you get my drift.

Either way, happy for the dude - seems like a good guy, and one hell of a football player.

The problem isn't CJ, it's the precedent. When stafford is up next, then Suh, etc they'll be in a difficult position

Cap hell, here comes detroit. That's just too much money for a WR. If he OR matthew stafford go down, that's money you might as well light on fire.
