Don't know if this has been posted in one of the many other Manning threads, but thought it might be worth it's on thread. If not, please close it or merge it.

The Broncos are one of six teams who are considered alive in the pursuit of Manning. The others are Miami, Arizona, San Francisco, Tennessee and — surprise! — the Houston Texans.

The Texans recently inquired about Manning, according to a source. If they get seriously involved, the Texans might be considered the Broncos' biggest threat. Like the Broncos, Houston is an AFC team. Unlike the Broncos, the Texans currently have the pieces in place to be considered a Super Bowl-contending team.

Houston also has a Pro Bowl quarterback in Matt Schaub, who will turn 31 in June.

However, Schaub is coming off a season-ending broken foot injury. Manning, who is 12 days away from his 36th birthday, missed all of last season with a neck injury.

Texans cutting players right up to midnight because they know what price they need to get to, in order to sign Manning. Just a theory.

Or it's just coincidence and we had but a fleeting moment of flirtation with Manning that isn't as serious as being reported.

I think this is an interesting reader comment (from the comments section of that story):

Don't sell your Tebow Jerseys just yet Bronco (Tebow) Fans. This Guy Manning is a Marketing Genius, just as much as a Football Genius!!! Think back, "I want to make a decision by Tues." "Only two- Three teams to Visit", all that did is make him look more like the prom queen that might not go to the dance with the rest of the teams who are now begging Manning for an audience. Tenn. SF. and now What do you know, Houston (the team he wanted to go to all along)think about it, what other AFC team, that plays in a dome, that is closest to a SB berth, that plays in the second weakest AFC division, (South) that he could hand his former team two losses a year. He's using team EFX, and the Broncos like a Cheap Date, to get what he wants. He knows there is no way, in this town he could ever overtake Elway as the the most beloved QB in team history (In Houston he could be as big a star, as he is in Indy). The Redskins and Jets saw his play, and went different directions, give them credit...

I had said, earlier today, that Manning might be using the Broncos to throw out a contract number that his agent can leverage against the REAL team(s) Peyton is interested in.

The Texans give him what he wants most: Weak division AND a chance to stick it to the Colts twice-per-year and show Andrew Luck what greatness looks like.

We play in a dome, Jax is always sunny (sometimes rain), and Tennessee is hardly ever a rough climate to play in. It's a sweet gig if the money is right.

if there is any truth to that, it feels good being the team not used anymore in this situation.. its crazy reading all the comments throughout the web about how the texans are the best option for peyton from fans across the nation..

That's the biggest problem, we can't have Manning AND the players that make it the best option for him *sad face*

manning is not going to be a Texan

I know, I know. A lot of people are saying it would be his best bet...but I have a hard time thinking the Texans would be ultra-serious about acquiring him.

Makes sense that we "talked to him" because you should always remain open to at least a cordial conversation with a guy like #18, but I don't think we're ultra-serious as it's being propped up by a few speculators in the media and in comments sections of those stories.

Like Premiere said, "It's good to see those things being said about us...and it's good to think we're not being used like maybe the Broncos are right now..."

One has to wonder, though, if cutting Winston and Leinart and more players -yet-to-be-named, might be a way of clearing enough room and salary to make a run at Manning and then turn our focus to other positions if it's not working out like it didn't work out with Aso last off-season? You have to start somewhere, and play according to how it shakes out tomorrow....I just envision Manning playing for a lot less than Mario would. That's just me, though.

Hold on there, Kimmy.

Think about this: Peyton knows what type of receiver he can work with.

We have AJ, Walter, OD, Dreessen (for now), James Casey, and maybe Lestar Jean...we can also add a castoff WR who hits free agency tomorrow if the price is right...and we can add a guy from the draft, too. All is not lost when it comes to getting WRs or TEs or HBs for Manning. We're sitting' pretty good right now.

Peyton Manning is THE most cerebral QB in the NFL. The things he could do with Foster and Tate in the backfield and the assortment of guys we already have at WR/TE/HB is endless. He's going to know where he's going before they do. Before the defense does. He will already know who to hit when the ball snaps.

And that, IMO, is the lone reason the Texans have to be at least a little bit intrigued about. The thing about Schaub is that he's a totally submitted guy to the system of the Texans. They landed him for 2 2's and made him "their guy" and he would have still been "their guy" had it not been for the injury this year in Tampa Bay. But now? He has to know that business is business, and if the Texans experiment with Manning...he'll take it in stride and know that he still has to rehab and make a comeback whether it's for the Texans or some other team out there. He will be an NFL QB, in his mind, no matter what. It's what those guys do, it's how they think.

I think people might be underestimating the prowess of the Texans right now. Yes, there's a level (historically) of sentimental attachment by Kubiak, primarily, but we just kicked Eric Winston to the curb. I mean, that ALONE was a shocker to us here on the board.

Just playing devil's advocate here. I don't think we end up getting him. but it's not far-fetched to think the Texans might think they have lucked into a 3 or 4-year run of #18 with vengeance on his mind at every turn of the way. That's the cold-blooded nature this offense has lacked at QB. Period.

And the Super Bowl is being played in the guy's hometown. The stories and connections forming are interesting.

I would love it ... Love this optimism, too :)

As time churns on, ya' never know....he might just think he ought to sign with Houston and work with an offense that has been in good shape for many, many years. And he gets to kick Irsay's ass twice-a-year, too.

I don't think Peyton would be scared off by what we have. I don't even think he'd feel like we need to make huge moves for him, either. He'll get to pick his WR in the draft when it's our turn to do so.

Who would Peyton want to bring with him? Reggie Wayne for sure, and we got a spot for him. Jeff Saturday? We could let him take over for Myers. Re-sign Brisiel and get a new RT in Levi Brown or someone. Who else from Manning's entourage would he need? Dallas Clark? We let Dresseen go, and there's room for him at a minimal cost though. Addai? We do need an RB 3...

I dunno, but I don't see where we get a RT at the moment. Wayne would free up our draft priorities.

And then there will be threads saying Kubiak doesn't get players unless they have an Indy connection.

Id rather be the marlins than the A's. Id rather be 2 for 2 in titles than moneybal and just have solid teams for 8 yrs. Give me the rings.

Rashad Butler is easily our right tackle. Hell he played for Winston at the U when Winston tore his ACL.

Oh and by the way, if this does go down Bob Allen is going to have a kissing booth for his butt.

Oh man, forgot about Bob Allen.

He should be given a parade down Kirby if this happens. Kissing booth is a great idea! LOL.

All those Peyton speculations keep reminding me of a Ferris Bueller role call

Economics Teacher: Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?
Simone: Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
Economics Teacher: Thank you, Simone.
Simone: No problem whatsoever.

"This is just another step in the process," explained Lombardi. "I don't think we're getting a resolution just because [Manning] is throwing for Denver." No date has been set for the Titans workout. There is no clear front-runner between the two AFC finalists, and CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman reports "there are at least two teams [in addition to the Broncos and Titans (sic)] ready to jump into the fray." The Manning camp has reportedly spoken with both teams, one of which we presume may be the 49ers."

Anyone thing the "other" team could be the Texans?

No.

Not happening, and Bob will remain a boob.

Yeah but according to this guy Bob was right:

http://www.milehighsports.com/?p=9194

The national media tried to pretend that the Houston Texans were in contention, but they were never interested. The Manning camp are actually the ones that made the inquiry, but the Texans just didn’t have the cheddar and they also believe that Matt Schaub can get them to the Super Bowl.

Texans never contacted Manning but he contacted them.

What does Bob McNair have to do to get the message across? Buy a front page ad in The Chronic*? The Texans don't want Peyton Manning.

* Wouldn't work because no one reads The Chronic
