Leinart Released

Yessssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully a Jacoby announcement is coming!!!!!!!!!11

And I actually don't have anything against Leinart the QB in this system...But this saves money AND I'm just happy they are being pro-active...

BOOM! texans doing what needs to be done!

...

Feel sorry for Matty though. he had his chance then injury now realised. hope he finds somewhere to go

Gary gave Matt a great education here, but there's no place for him here anymore.

Time to fly on your own, Matt -- best of luck.

Anxiously waiting on the news of the Texans kicking Jacoby to the curb too. Another $4.5 million would be freed up. Come one Kubes. It was a failed experiment. Time to move on.

Hahaha, I can't help but crack up at the different reactions with Leinart and Winston being released. From all accounts he was an upstanding guy in and out of the locker room here. I wish him the best!

Adam Schefter is reporting that we released Matt Leinart....... Says it's not to make room for Peyton.

Haha of course not. Although I'm sure someone asked him he's always said that Texans would not get Manning.

Needed to be done though as Yates has proven he can be a good backup.

People are cheering that money is being saved and the team.is being pro-active....not that Leinart is losing his job. Maybe Jacoby is next.

Not too surprising with the amount he will be owed and the emergence of Yates. Sucks he never got his chance here because of injury but hopefully he will get a chance to start somewhere.

I always hate to say "Glad to hear that," but I am glad he's not a factor in our plans at QB this year.

I don't think we'll clear enough room to get Mario back. I really don't. Some team is going to be stoopid goofy with what they'll offer Mario. I mean, he's going to get insane money from some team.

I think this is to bring back Myers and maybe acquire a better WR to help out AJ since the multi-year project known as Jacoby Jones reached its full impotence in the divisional playoff game in Baltimore.

If Jacoby is gone, then that clears money to sign Myers and a better WR for TJ Yates. I still don't think we have a chance in hell at Mario, and Manning is not targeted either. It has to be to retain the Center and grab a free agent WR so that Kubiak can draft OL in round 1 and get his next Duane Brown-type lineman. My theory, at least.

Agreed. He just was piss poor against a speed or bull rush in pass protection. How many times have we watched that.

He'll land on his feet. I wish him the best and thank him for his years of service.

Yeah, I know but it still made me chuckle. We're definitely setting ourselves up to do something here. McNair and company finally look ready to make some serious noise somehow. Even if it's just keeping our premier free agents.

4.5 million? Really? For some reason I'm remembering it like this... it wouldn't be very cost effective to cut Jacoby as he would carry a large cap hit. Might as well keep him.

A mentality that I do not happen to agree with but it makes sense.

If Jacoby is cut too, Texans have enough for Myers, Brisiel, and Mario. I'd go receiver the draft versus free agency. Depending in what happens with Schaub, they may have enough for Manning also. This is starting to get interesting.

Not a big surprise. Sorry he didn't make the most of his opportunity when he was here...and it wasn't entirely his fault IMO.

Good luck to you and your hot tub ladies!

I don't think anyone is surprised by the Leinart cut. Winston is the one that nobody saw coming no matter what anyone thought about his play.

but but but... leinart was supposed to compete for the number 2 job because yates sucks... blah blah... let the backtracking begin..

To be honest I wasn't shocked by the Winston release. I know I probably should have been, but its the NFL. Around this time of the year there are plenty of unexpected releases. Releasing Duane Brown would have been a shock. But the Winston release didn't throw me out of my chair.

Wasn't Valentine's Day last month....

I don't see it. No way we have enough to match what Mario will be offered at 12:01 a.m.

PacMan might have made it rain, but there's going to be a monsoon of cash pouring over the head of Mario tomorrow. MONSOON.

Either these moves are what's needed to retain our own guys, such as Myers and a few others, or it's for Manning, or it's for a better free agent WR we've never really been able to land in our entire 10-year existence. There just has never been a truly TALENTED WR2 here. Walter is not that guy, IMO. He needs to be WR3. Period.

well then we should take solace in the fact that mario is grossly overpaid..

we'll always have the memories :-(

Is Wade barking at the waiter to bring him another round of Whitecastle burgers?

Look! Gary is watching Rackers kick the game-winning field goal up on the big screen. Oh wait a second...it's a re-run of a game where Rackers made the kick, so Gary knew ahead of time that he makes it for the win. My bad. LOL.

It looks like David Anderson is just out of the picture to Kubiak's left. I see his hands.

Leinart is chill. As always. "David was right, this is a sweet gig here in Houston! Cali East."

@MattLeinartQB
I appreciate and thank Mr McNair and the Texans organization for giving me the opportunity to play. I will miss the Texans fans and most Importantly my teammates. I have no time to get down, focus is on getting healthy and being ready to go again! #believe

I think most here saw that coming, but damn, things are starting to rock-n-roll. More news @ 10:00.

I was one of the hold outs. They must feel comfortable with Schaub's progress, or maybe they're rolling the dice. I can't see them letting a veteran QB familiar with our system go without seeing Schaub on that foot.

Hope for the best, plan for the worse... that's the way I roll.

Which is why they have to clear enough room to make him a good faith offer before 3pm tomorrow, never let him see FA

Saying that, I personally don't believe it is worth cutting players like Leinart & Winston to clear room for Mario, my premise has always been that we had the room to sign Mario & our other players, by lowering his $18M cap number & restructuring other contracts.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem cutting them to upgrade at either position. I've never been big on Winston & had I known he was going to be a $5M+ cap hit in 2012, I would have suggested cutting him myself. I've already suggested starting Butler at RT for a couple of years now.

But, I am very concerned about losing Leinart. Tj is still a back-up & we don't know that Schaub is going to start week 1.

I really feel for Matt L. When Schaub got hurt, I saw the opportunity for what it was: an audition for a job next year somewhere else. My heart sank when he got drilled v JAX. I hope he gets a chance somewhere. Rotten luck, but the cut was not unexpected.

I agree with this post and that Scarlet is hot ;)

I thought the same thing, too. Trying to make one big dent in the salary situation to tell Mario, "Look, this is what we can do. Is it enough?"

But then again, I don't see Bob begging to THAT degree...to cut Winston so brutally like it ended up.

It seems to me like the moves to cut Winston and Leinart free'd up money, along with AJ's re-structure, to satisfy players on our roster not named Mario Williams.

I personally think it'd take a HUGE gutting of this team's UFAs to retain Mario prior to him hitting FA tomorrow. Mario is a class act AND he's wise. He knows, generally speaking, how much cash he can command this year. We wanted Mario to become THIS type of coveted player, and unfortunately I think it's the end of the road.

I'm neutral in all this. 2011 taught me to trust the Texans. Funny what a dominant defense can do for a fan's psyche. eh?

Couldn't the Texans re-sign Delhomme at the vet minimum, and have only 1/2 of that count against the cap? I'd rather have Jake at a cap value of $500k than Leinart at $2.5 million.
