Who has better season: Texans of Jags...

phan1

Rookie
I have to say that the team I am worried about most this season is not the Titans or Colts, it's the Jags. The Titans are on a downswing, and I seriously think we'lll end up with a better record than them. The Colts will eventually turn downward when we reach our prime in the next 2-3 years. But the Jags look like they're doing some good stuff, and IMO are the biggest threat toward future dominance in the division. Leftwich will be a stud in this league. The only real knock against them is that I think Taylor is getting old.

So who's got the edge: Texans or Jags?

i forgot, whats everyones record right now? 0-0? no one has an edge
But do teams have the same rosters???

I'd have to give an edge to the Jags because they arent starting two rookies on defense and have the best rushing defense (yards per carry wise) in the league and Fred Taylor is only 28 and rebounded nicely last year from those hamstring injuries and Toefield is in his 2nd year and Greg Jones can help out in short yardage situations, so they have two keys to winning games: stop the run and run the ball. The passing game on both sides is a question mark because there secondary is questionable and on the offensive side Jimmy Smith isnt the Jimmy Smith of old. Reggie Williams should help out, though.

It all depends on who comes together faster. We certainly had a better finish to the season, despite what the experts say, but the Jags are more set with players that have experience on both sides. There defense have an edge on our defense, but I give us an edge on offense because our passing game could be more potent...

teams dont have the same rosters, but if i posed the question last year who has the edge: Tampa Bay or Carolina, who has the edge: Oakland or Kansas City, who has the edge: Pittsburgh or Cincinnati, who has the edge: Washington or Dallas

see what I mean? as of today, every team is 0-0...anything can happen. Everyone is in the NFL for a reason, and it's because they're good. so everyone is the same as of now, and no one has an edge until week 1 is completed

Then why do we bother with free agency, the draft, min-camps and training camp???

Its to develop and gain the edge in football.

The Texans have helped themselves as much as anyone during the offseason to improve the team. The Jag's where a little farther along as far as being the existing NFL franchise.

OK, Ready for some football.....

And you probably would have picked Oakland, Tampa Bya, Pittsburg and Washington and those were wrong but there is no harm in predicting.

I understand that there are surprises, but some teams have edges over other teams because of the talent on their roster. Yes everyone's record is 0-0, but that is just a record that also says that the Eagles are equal to the 49ers. Now the 49ers could surpirse people but the Eagles have better talent and coaching so the pre-season pick would be the Eagles. New England has a superior roster then the Dolphins for many reasons so you would predict that NE will do better, but you can be wrong.

Phan1 just asked for another preseason prediction, who will be better: Jags or Texans, it is no different then guessing stats and staters...

You give numerous reasons to favor the Jags over the Texans. A lot of them make sense on paper, but I have to take exception to giving the Jags an edge because they don't start 2 guys like Dunta Robinson and Jason Babin. Dunta should easily start for the Jags. Dwayne Washington or Juran Boldin will start for Jacksonville at a corner and they wouldn't start in Houston. As bad as the Jag pass rush was last season, I'm certain they could find a spot for Babin at either OLB or DE.

Other than the 2 rookies, the Texans start a tested, veteran group on defense. When healthy. I like that the Texans have some new blood on D and that these rookies along with Peek & Faggins will hopefully provide some spark. Very much a positive for the Texans in my view.

:hmmm:, I didnt think of it that way...

I think the Jags have the edge on Safeties, and we have the edge on Cornerbacks. Deon Grant and Donovin Darius are a slightly better safety combo than Coleman/Brown at the moment. The Texans have the edge on LBs mostly because the 3-4 is predicated on great LB play. The D-Line is a tough one. The Jags have Stroud and Henderson inside, but not much from the DE. The Texans, when healthy, have great DE in Smith and Walker, and a very good NT in Payne. So the D-Line is a toss up.

If both teams stay healthy, it should be pretty close. I think the Texans have an edge because of depth and quality at WR and CB. Both QB's are young studs with excellent leadership ability. The Texans also have better coaches.

Texans 8-8
Jaguars 7-9

I too am concerned with the Jags. More concerned with them than the Titans or Colts to be honest. The Titans and Colts are going to be good but I don't believe they're going to sweep us in 2004. The Jags I feel might do that. I'd like to split with them and a sweep would be outstanding but I don't expect it. For some reason I've been worried about them sweeping us this year more than ever before.

They're up and coming, we're up and coming. It's only a matter of time before the two of us are fighting it out for the division. Not us and the Colts, nor us and the Titans. It's going to be us and the Jags peaking around the same time. Fuel for a good rivalry in time.

It depends on injurys. Last year we had too many injuries, but we were coming really close to winning a lot of our games. If we are losing by 3 points and seven points then we are doing it right, we just needed a little more of a push.

texans have the edge. on the note about everyone being 0-0 and everybody is equal i would have to say that is completely false. sure there will be some big surprises around the league. the texans being one of them(i only say they are a surprise because the majority dont think they can contend, but we know better)

for instance miami loses Ricky then David Boston, they need a starting running back and a number 1 receiver how can they be any where near being as equal as teams like the eagles, pats, colts,

those r my 2 fav. teams but i think (hope) they'll both do good. is that bad to like 2 teams in the same divsion. :goodbad:

Yes it is very bad, and I think its an arrestable offense in Houston. Where's a cop when you need one? :boxing:
