We seem to be doing a whole lot of nothing. We have two days to franchise somebody which is something I feel we need to do even if it is only Niel Rackers. I don't usually follow the offseason as closely as I have this year so I'm not surd if taking this long is normal but still it seems we are running out of time until Free Agency and the only news I have heard is that of DeMeco with a possible paycut and cutting a 3rd string O-lineman. Please inform me if this is normal and if it is excuse me for my ignorance on this matter.

You don't have to franchise tag someone, I think most teams would prefer to not use it. Just because it costs a lot more for a one year deal than spread out over a contract. I'm sure there is a lot going on behind the scenes, but the Texans are kind of in a bind to do anything until the new league year starts.

Most seasons not many teams use their tag. This season its expected to shatter the record. Alot of teams near the top of the cap are holding off right now because they don't know what the exact cap numbers for next season will be, they're waiting on info from the league

The current Texans are very tight lipped with the media so not hearing anything doesn't mean much. As I said in another thread not hearing Foster has been tagged may be a good thing meaning both sides are still hopeful a deal can be reached before the deadline. You only have to make the tender 1 second before the deadline.

We only have one day to tag a player... literally 24 hours. The deadline is 3 pm tomorrow.

We should tag foster right now. Screw giving a RB a long term contract even one as good as Foster.

I am proposing it just to buy us time to negotiate a long term deal. I do not want Foster to not have a contract while playing this year.

You dont use the tag just because you have it , You dont use the tag when you are confident you can resign a guy .... the only time you tag a guy is when he is an integral part of your team and you risk losing him otherwise .... and then only when the cap hit is reasonable .... Unlike the MW situation.

Why in hell would you franchise Rackers ? .....You lost all credability with that one. He had a sub par season and should see serious competition in camp .... He's paid to kick , not tackle which he did well .....

The only guy's I can see them franchising are Foster or Myers .... and from my understanding they are close to a deal with Foster (take that for what its worth).

Literally I believe, because under the new CBA those positions have been merged for franchise money calculations.
They were merged under the previous CBA also. Doesn't make much sense given the historical differences in salary, but it's been that way for a while now.

Prior to this just finished season, I never fully trusted the Texans management especially team doctors. Everything seems to have changed for the better. Even our injured players have made remarkable recoveries. McNair made move with Phillips, then the free agent pick ups of Manning and Joseph. A fantastic draft accompanied by an unbelievable change to Wade's defense in an extremely brief time span. The team medical staff kept players like Briesel on the field and others back quickly on the field.

I am willing to give them a nod to make decent decisions with this offseason. At least until something stupid happens. We are simply experiencing frustrations that I believe are escalated due to the recent success. Let's allow the process to work.

Myers would require a $9.4 million tender. That's left tackle money.
Jesus .... thats a load of dough. Didnt realize his number was that high.

Scratch Myers off the francise possible list .... Its Foster and .... well , Foster. (tho I dont think they do franchise him).

I would franchise Foster.....cause you aint doing it to Mario......
Would you usde it just to use it .... even if you were close to a deal with him ? Seems kinda pointless if thats the case.

I think the Texans need to be very smart this offseason and tagging someone won't make things any easier for them. Especially when you consider that it raises the chances of them walking next offseason anyway and you run the risk of them under-performing ala Dunta to make their point.

I agree that the only possible one might be Rackers but the top kickers get paid more than he's worth, and there may be a couple of good ones hitting the market this season who the Texans might be interested in.

If they lose any of them this season it will be a shame, but its better to get the house in order now than put it off until next year when they'll have just as much if not more to get sorted.

I want an upgrade at the kicker spot .... No way I'd franchise Rackers. Fanfavorite for his special teams tackling or not .... He gets paid to make FG's not tackles.

Rackers 84% make ratio (32-38) is a decline of 6% from the prior season .... and puts him 16th among kickers with 15 or more attempts.

Add in the fact that the team punted on multiple occasions instead of taking FG's around 50 yards because of his lack of distance ....
