I wonder who we would lose if their was a new team picking today.
That's a fun question. Each team has to have 5 players from which an expansion franchise can draft. My list would be:

Andrew Gardner
Quintin Demps
Derrick Ward
Mister Alexander
Sherrick McManis

You can't have guys who are going to be restricted or unrestricted free agents the next season though. Don't know what their contract status is.

Since most teams used it to get out of contracts with no cap penalties, I wouldn't be surprised if DeMeco Ryans was left unprotected. He's a good player, but was a invisible man in Wade's system.

Not late in the season tho.
He had 29 tackles in his first 8 games and 35 tackles in his last 8 games... there wasn't that much of a difference. Tackles/production aside.. In Wade's system he's also a 2 down player who's being compensated like a 3 down player. (there was also not much of a drop off when Sharpton came in early in the season) That's the biggest reason why if there was a new expansion team and if we were having a expansion draft I think the Texans would leave DeMeco unprotected and see if a team would bite. He's really overpaid in this system.

Not a bad bunch to start a franchise with.
Pretty good defense to start out with for Vic Fangio. Didn't they rank like 15th in defense (middle of the pack) in 2002? Gary Walker, Aaron Glenn, Jamie Sharper and Seth Payne. Marcus Coleman was pretty good also. I'd take those guys all over again. I remember playing NFL 2K3 on XBOX Live. People would always laugh at me over the microphone for picking the expansion Texans but I'd usually hold my own on defense. Would usually lose to the better teams but I kept it low scoring and respectable. Not much I could do on offense with David Carr, Billy Miller, Corey Bradford and Jonathan Wells. I was lucky to get a first down. A lot of 20-13, 17-6, 10-3 type of losses.

That's a fun question. Each team has to have 5 players from which an expansion franchise can draft. My list would be:

Andrew Gardner - [2012: $540,000, 2013: Restricted Free Agent]

Quintin Demps - [2012: Free Agent]

Derrick Ward - [2012: Free Agent]

Mister Alexander - [11/1/2011: Signed a three-year, $1.395 million contract. 2012: $465,000, 2013: $555,000, 2014: Restricted Free Agent]

Sherrick McManis - [5/27/2010: Signed a four-year, $1.982 million contract. The deal included a $192,000 signing bonus. 2011: $405,000, 2012: $490,000, 2013: $575,000, 2014: Free Agent]

Replace Derrick Ward and Quintin Demps with Jesse Nading (2012: $615,000, 2013: Free Agent) and Jacoby Jones (7/29/2011: Signed a three-year, $10.5 million contract. The deal contains $3 million guaranteed. 2011-2013: Under Contract, 2014: Free Agent) since Ward and Demps are F/As in 2012.

You know Ryans isn't going anywhere. He's a leader on this team and that trumps the reduction in playing time.

Jacoby is the obvious choice to expose. My guess is that it would be some of the guys that were on IR, assuming they could pass the physical. Leinart, Butler, and Shelly Smith. Graham doesn't appear like he'll ever get much time on the field, he makes sense. Antoine Caldwell should be replaced in this draft. I would expose him.

First two Texans to make the Pro Bowl. Walker gave my son a panoramic of the inside of Reliant that both he and AG had signed. Sweet collectible.

Boselli was a decent gamble, since he was an elite LT pre injury. They just didn't address plan B. They put eggs in that basket and went to town.

Funny thing was Casserly made a deal that if he took Walker and Paynes contracts, they would put Boselli up and let him go. How did that work out?
yep. Casserly working deals to help out a division rival. Classic. :clown: "Hi, I'm Charlie..."

We could've got Willie Roaf from the Saints. We passed on him and went for Boselli. Boselli never played a down and Willie Roaf went on to have a few more pro bowl seasons with KC.

The NFL made Boselli and Roaf have independent medical evaluations. Boselli was cleared for the expansion draft and Roaf wasn't so his name was pulled off the available list. So we would have had to trade for him. Obviously would have worked out better but that is hindsight.
