How much would this suck?

ehh, he wasn't gonna suit up anyway and if they win he will still get a ring and playoff shares of money, he might need one of his allocated tickets back if he wants to see the game though.

Yeah, I'm sure that's exactly how he's looking at things (and for the record, he was active in both of the Pats previous playoff games).

Depends on the circumstances. What if he broke some major team rule or got in some trouble partying during Super Bowl week?
If he did then cutting him would be just fine but no one knows why I'd like to know though.

Per the Boston Herald:
I am told there were not disciplinary reasons for the move. Underwood did not do anything wrong, and I expect him to be back next year. But perhaps they wanted another defensive linemen on the field.

You know, maybe it's just me but if the New England Patriots decided they didn't want me on the eve of a Super Bowl but they expected me to be back with the team next year I'd be like "Go **** yourselves".

Last team in existence I'd sign with if they did that to me.

I'm hoping it's for his haircut

I know the Texans as a FO and Coaching staff are to loyal to our players but NE has to be the polar opposite they treat players like crap.

Exactly. I hope they go down tomorrow but the only thing is Underwood would get a ring if they won.

You stay classy Boston.

In unrelated news Belichick steals Superbowl ticket from small child who 'looked at him funny'.

I don't think this is as bad as it looks on the surface. The Pats' braintrust is probably adding to their defensive squad at this rookie's expense. If this was a week earlier this guy would likely be re-signed to the Pats practice squad. Not sure if that's doable with only one day left in the season.

Still... the timing does suck... they could have made this move last week or right after the AFC championship game.

When a player has made a run with his team you don't just cut him for someone on the P.S. JMHO.

I know he was but Ochocinco is gonna play, so he wasn't gonna suit up for the Superbowl. With their TE banged up they needed more help on special teams, hence the move.

You play to win the game. Especially this coming up game.

I cant believe people are getting upset about this. The Patriots are going to field the best team they can, any team would do the same.

Believe it or not in the last game Underwood actually played in their last game but dumb butt Chad did not this move was all based on name recognition only IMHO. Underwood has been doing a little something which is better than nothing. Chad has not been that good for a few years now anyway.

Precisely. As pointed out they brought up a defensive player.

Well to be fair, Chad's dad had passed away that week, so he was out of town.

One- Chad Johnson (I refuse to call him by his ridiculous new name) missed the game because of a death in the family.

Two- I get that you hate him. I do to. Hell, I lived in Cincy when people were calling him the best receiver in the NFL. All of his antics were everywhere, and I hated the guy. But the guy does have some talent left.

This season, Johnson had 15 receptions for 276 yards and a TD. In contrast, Underwood had 3 receptions for 30 yards and no scores.

And while he has not been an all-star receiver the last couple years, his stats are decent- about 830 yards in 2010/2011, and over 1000 in 09/10. He is a solid 3rd option in any offense.

Now, as for your claim that it is a PR move- BS. When have the Patriots ever cared about PR? They play to win. And more often than not, they do.

Why the day before and not two or three weeks ago? Still crappy of them.

I would do the same thing if I were a coach in the SB and needed to make a move to give my team a better shot at winning.

I heard that he knew of his release much earlier but helped keep it under wraps so the Giants wouldn't claim him and have him talk about the Pats SB prep. He may still be loyal to the team...donno, I bet more comes out later.

Shefter also reported that he will receive his SB bonus and would've gotten a ring had the Pats won.

Despite being waived late Saturday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Tiquan Underwood is entitled to his full Super Bowl bonus.
The bonus is $88,000. Underwood would also receive a ring if the Patriots win. Per Schefter, Underwood was "unlikely to be active" against the Giants in the first place, so he's not losing much. While some media members have tried to make Bill Belichick look like a bad guy for waiving Underwood the day before the Super Bowl, the reality is Belichick is intent on winning, and the Giants could have claimed Underwood off waivers if the move had been made earlier in the week.
