Wonder if they are moving to a 3-4? He is a 3-4 coach right?

Baltimore plays more of a hybrid system. I'm sure he could coach either one, but they could make a move to the 3-4. They don't have the personnel for it though, so their draft will have to be heavily defensive. It may be worth it for the Colts to trade the top pick to the Browns for their two 1sts and a 3rd. Pick up Griffin there and start rebuilding the O-line and D-line.
Baltimore runs the 4-3 a little more than 3-4, but they are more a mixed front defense than any other team in the league.

That is a front 7 that could work. Mathis and Freeney would look great as OLBs, Angerer would be a good ILB and Diles is serviceable. Anderson would make a solid 3-4 DE. They could use another 3-4 DE and possibly a bigger nose, but they have someone running the D who could better use the available talent. He could bring Cory Redding over to man the other DE spot and maybe even Aubrayo Franklin to play NT. Then add in a couple draft picks in the ILB spot and DL and they have a very interesting D to begin with. The front 7 won't be confused for the Ravens next year but give Pagano time and he can build a very formidable D.

He signed a 1 year contract with NO last year. He didn't get a ton of looks and was hoping to have a big time season to get that last big pay day. He didn't impress as a 4-3 DT and would be a better 3-4 NT. He could be a bargain FA.

Freeney and Angerer would probably do well. But that's all I can see.
Robert Mathis is a free agent this year, so I don't think they would sign him to a big deal and then switch him to an OLB. The Texans had the luxury of testing Mario there before signing him to a big deal, I don't know if the Colts would be willing to do that.
Jamaal Anderson is also a free agent. He was a 1 year deal. He may re-sign for cheap given that he didn't do much this year. Drake Nevis didn't do anything this year either. Nor did Fili, and I don't see him anchoring a line at 3-4 NT.
Zac Diles? umm.... Wasn't he cut by the Rams this year?
Hey man, if they make the switch to 3-4 and that is their starting lineup, I'll be a happy Texan. They got a long ways to go and if they pick up Peyton's option, they won't have any money to sign good free agents.
I guess it depends on if Manning plays against the Colts next season. After what I heard today it doesn't look like he will be playing for them.

I'd beg to differ... particularly toward the end of the season. Although, I hope the impression that other teams have is the one you're espousing here. Might allow us to keep him for a lower price.
it also remains to be seen how he'd fit in Spagnuolo's defensive scheme - so the Saints might not be keen to resign him. That part I am not sure of.
But he was very stout - I was sorta lukewarm about him the first half of the season. But the second half of the season, he and Cam Jordan were very stout against the run.
I'd love to have him back in NO.

4 years. He took over the team when they were the worst in the conference with a 1-11 record. Took a couple years, but he turned them around. Certainly a good enough resume to give him a chance at a HC gig.

Freeney doesn't fit in the 3-4 & has the biggest contract on the defense. He's likely gone & they give that money to mathis & switch him to olb....if they switch to the 3-4. If they stay in the 4-3..i still think Freeney's done though. He's screwed either way imo.

Looks like Chuck tagged Keith Butler to be his defensive coordinator. IMO this is one of the best hires of the entire off-season thus far by any team. You have a guy who can seemingly cause anybody to rise a tier above their glass ceiling going to a guy who can do the same with defensive lines. Both these guys come out of the physical AFC North, so they immediately have a full understanding of what each wants and can do from the gate. This also means these guys are going to playing some extremely physical defense. These guys will be out for blood, that's for sure.
Bruce Arians was picked to be the offensive coordinator, which is probably one of the top three hires of the off-season thus far. People may crack jokes about Pittsburgh South (although I think the title firmly belongs to Arizona,) but Bruce was never right for the Steelers. Rothlisberger's a great passer, but Pittsburgh is just not kind to quarterbacks when it starts getting to that point in the calendar year when you have to call relatives to arrange the annual Thanksgiving plans.
Now Bruce is coming to a team that will have a young gun-slinger who loves taking his shots and he'll be doing it in a comfy dome year in and year out. Bruce is the perfect fit for the Colts.
I'm sure you can tell my thoughts are high on the Colts' future. I wouldn't be surprised if this team jumps out to a competitive record this year; I firmly expect them to be so within two. What I find absolutely hilarious is how some teams like the Colts have likely hit a homerun with their staff while the Jacksonville Jaguars seemingly go out of their way to make the worst hires possible. It's like the Jags are trying to be the real life version of the film Major League.

I don't know. It's easy to look good defensivly when you have that roster to work with. The Colts have very little that compairs to the Ravens peersonel.
