Was thinking the same thing watching all four teams play today. I don't think the offseason will be that bad though. We got a good FA period and draft to go through.
To his credit, that's basically what Ray Lewis said after the game.

CONSPIRACY THEORY: Patriots paid Albert to try to injure Schaub when they found out he would be playing the Texans.
I don't know if Yates would have done any better against the Patriots defense. In terms of throwing, according to the Baltimore game, we apparently had nobody outside of AJ. And yes, I think the Giants would have beat us in the Super Bowl had the "what ifs" happened.

2017 Astros: Earn It!
I really felt like this was a down year for the entire AFC. With Peyton Manning's season-long injury, to the Steelers offensive line being as bad as I've seen it in at least two decades. The Ravens were a very average road team (4-5 - playoff loss included) and the Patriots defense had some definite holes on it, especially in the secondary.
It's safe to say if the Texans had a healthy Matt Schaub they had a very good chance to be playing the Giants in the Super Bowl. And that's not even thinking how amazing Houston would be with a healthy Mario Williams anchoring the defense.
We just need to hope the cards fall our way next year. Need some luck staying healthy but this is a Super Bowl contender entering the 2012 season. Even with the difficult schedule, I have the Texans going 14-2 and getting the 1st seed in the AFC.
Should have, could have, would have went 13-3 with T.J. Yates and have at least played the Ravens in Reliant for the divisional round, if they didn't fall apart against the Panthers, Colts and Titans the final three games.

Personally I think parity is setting in.
Steelers are aging on defense badly.
Colts are pretty much full blown rebuild mode
Pats other than Brady dont have any superstars.
Texans are you, talented and pretty deep.
These things go in cycles and I feel we are about to hit one of those cycles.

The Houston Texans have a lot of young superstars on both sides of the ball. And another handful of veteran pro bowlers hitting their prime years. On paper anyway, the Texans have arguably the most talented team in the NFL right now.
It would not surprise me to see Houston with 11 or 12 pro bowlers next season, assuming everybody stays healthy. This off-season is really hard on me because I believe a healthy Houston team is better than the two teams playing in the Super Bowl. Now we have to wait until next year to see it all coming into fruition.
If the Texans end up having another good draft in April that would be really scary for the rest of the league. They're already loaded at most positions with the exception of a few depth issues. I don't think free agency is going to net them much with their limited cap space. Just need to re-sign Mario Williams and Arian Foster to long-term deals.
This could be the real makings of a Texans dynasty over the next four or five years. Ah yes, remember those Dallas Cowboys teams that won three Super Bowls in four years with Aikman, Smith, Irvin, Novacek, an amazing offensive line and defense? This Texans team is very similar talent wise except the salary cap is going to limit what they can do.

True, but 2012 is a new season. Last year, it was the Bears & the Packers in the NFC Championship game. The Bears didn't make it to the play-offs & the Pack were 1 & done.
The Jets played the Steelers in the AFC Championship game a year ago. Again, the Jets didn't make the dance & the Steelers were 1 & Done as a wild-card.
It's a long way to the Super Bowl..... heck, getting to the play-offs is not guaranteed.

Jacoby, Yates, and some weird play calling at the end of the game is what kept us from the Super Bowl. Three things.
We need a monster draft, retain key players, add a quality WR2 threat, and limit injuries and we're the best team in the NFL in 2012. Period.

I'll quote Mike Greeny last week in Mike and Mike, "the Texans are the most complete team in the NFL. They can run the ball. EVEN WHEN YOU KNOW THEY ARE RUNNING THE BALL THEY STILL RUN IT DOWN YOUR THROAT!. And Arian Foster is a STUD!". Etc. It was like a four minute pro-Texans talk tangent after the Watt interview.

Yep - these are going to be some important years coming up for the staff and Texans now that they've hit a major milestone of making the playoffs.
Gotta handle contracts carefully so the team continues it's balance for years to come. Start "investing" too much into certain players and the team eventually becomes one dimensional with a small group of elites that get older and can only afford a supporting cast around them.
THIS is my only concern for next year, I don't want to lose anything from this season (except the injuries and Jacoby) I know it will happen but hopefully we can get more out of the current guys before a "hostage negotiation" takes place.
The Ravens may have taken our hope for this SB but they sure as hell can't take this new feeling of confidence and hope for next season, rather than the usual hope out of desperation due to love of our Texans.

Dude , you can't be serious, no offense but the TEXANS arnt the RAVENS. The RAVENS defense did the exact same thing against Brady as they did the TEXANS, they got multiple INTS. The Pats Defense was playing pretty good, and FLACCO played lights out. So your going to say Yates would have played better than Flacco, lol, come on now. Only reason RAVENS lost is yet again, our stupid WRers cant hold on to the ball that is thrown to them. Don't even get me started on the Cundiff. I know that would have only tied it, but the momentum was all on Baltimore. There was no stopping Flacco and the RAVENS DEFENSE was playing at a high level in the second half.
But like everyone says, should of, would of , could of. If you feel you could have beaten the PATS , thats great, but your forgetting you had your chance, all you had to do was get past the RAVENS. I think Foster would have had a better game than RICE , but the pats played to take RICE out of the game. They would have planned to do the samething to the TEXANS, so you would have had to rely on YATES, nothing against Yates but he wouldn't have done what Flacco did. Sorry but its the truth.
And again, im not trying to start anything. IM a Die Hard RAVENS Fan, i bleed Black and Purple. I' still in shock in the outcome of the game, i feel we won that game, but the score board said different.
And on a side note, Im so sick of playing the PATRIOTS in N.E, i can not remember the last time Brady played at the BANK. Thats not including the Play offs, cause they earned the Homefield. Im talking about regular season games. But next season , the PATRIOTS finally have to play us at the bank. Cant wait to see how the Stadium treats, Brady and his pansy Zebra pals.

Well, for the second week in a row you guys were gifted great field position at a key point in the game due to a special teams blunder by the opponent.
Kudos to guys because you do have a good team. I disagree with GP that it was a given that we'd have won, but I do think we'd have had a good shot.

That's the way it goes, that's the NFL... that's what the post-season is about if your team isn't in the big game.
I guarantee you, you will find at least one fan, one thread on Baltimore's fan board, who believes the Flacco led Raven's could have (& should have) beat the Giants after the Super Bowl.
It's kinda dumb to expect otherwise.

Dude, YOU can't be serious. Your STARTING QB looked as dull and unable to avoid pressure as he did when he faced us. Several lucky bounces of the ball on a few fumbles by your team fell your way. That's good fortune, it either goes your way or against you. It went your way.
Would you not agree that the Patriots were very beatable this past Sunday? I mean, where was the Tom Brady who was torching defenses for like 6 TDs every game in the reg season? He wasn't there this past Sunday. The Patriots also have a very suspect defense and they STILL got to Flacco! LOL.
Here's some facts: We had a rookie 3rd string QB named Yates who tried hard but couldn't get it done. We have rookies up and down our defense making huge plays to fill in for an I.R.'d Mario Williams. Your WRs made some circus catches on us that normally wouldn't be made--My hat is off to your WRs for making those catches, but the coverage on them was very good...maybe the best coverage I've ever seen Texans DBs put on any team's WRs in the whole 10 years of us being a team.
Even though Jacoby Jones botched a punt and you guys were practically given a TD off it, we still almost beat you. In fact, we stopped your run game COLD, your vaunted FB named Leach was stuffed too.
All in all, "Hell yeah we would have beaten the Patriots this past Sunday." If anything, your home field and your guys having TONS of playoff experience and a botched punt (and subsequent TD) and our rookie 3rd string QB running out of rope was what did us in.
Did you beat us? Yep. But it was not some slam dunk HUGE win over us. And then you guys couldn't put away a very vulnerable Patriots team in their own house for crying out loud!
But alas, you are Ravens fan. You will just debate and not discuss. So be it.
