The Matt Schaub injury doomed us in the long run

You're right about being Captain Obvious.

If the goal is to win a Super Bowl, it was never going to happen with Lienart or Yates.
 
I agree with this thread. I've been critical of Schaub at times, but I've never considered him a bad QB. He may not be the caliber of guys like the top 3, but if you surround him with the best defense in football and the best running game in football, he can win the Super Bowl.
 
Agree, next year if you have MS and AJ stay healthy (and Arian too), add a legit #2 WR, replace K. Jackson and bring back Mario - S U P E R B O W L

Think Schaub would have been sacked on some of the pressures that Yates got away from, but he probably would not have thrown those picks either.
 
it doomed us this year for sure, but schaub is a free agent after next season I believe, and yates seems more than capable of taking over the QB1 role at that time, especially with more seasoning from kubiak, dennison, and knapp.

while it definitely hurt us now, schaub and leinart's injuries may benefit us in the long run in terms of yates developing in our system. practice helps, but nothing allows coaches to help fix a player's flaws like live game action.
 
I don't know if "doomed" is the right word, we did much better than Chicago, Oakland, & Kansas City.

We had a good run. Hopefully we won't forget that as we go forward.

I know you're kidding but I feel the same way. I swear sometimes Albert is still drawing breath because I don't make enough money to be able to afford to take a contract out on him. What are the odds that that worthless thug would be waived and then picked up by the team that we're about to play?

That was one I never saw coming. The sooner he's out of football the happier I'll be.
 
Aside from being more mobile and athletic than schaub, it's clear that tj is not ready. He did what he could but it wasn't good enough. I hope Matt comes back healthy. If he does then lookout.
 
Rogers and Brees both threw for multiple picks this weekend as well. Doesn´t mean they are bad QB´s Yates dealt well with the pressure. The dude had very few repititions before being tossed in the fire. I think he handled it well and with a full offseason coming up with the offense I think he has a shot at being a good QB on this team. Trying to force the ball to AJ on a few of those plays was costly, but haven´t we seen Schaub do the same thing in the past.

Doomed is too strong of a word. After all Yates did win us a playoff game.

As a fan, you want to believe in your team no matter what happens. Yates, at times, gave us reasons to believe in him and he had myself, and many others too, convinced that he could win against good football teams. Sure he is a rookie and will throw INTs but some of his throws yesterday were just plain stupid.

Should have known when Schuab went down that our SB chances were crushed on the spot. Just really shows you how important he is to our team.

OH man! Forgot about Sharpton! There is definitely some serious positives on that list. I'd love to have Hartmann back punting it 70 yards, Matt, throwing for 300 yards. Studdard and Butler back on the line...well, maybe not Butler so much. Mario, of course. The double and triple teams he would have pulled. Can you imagine how much better our D would be WITH Mario in there!?!? OK, I must not be that good of a fan...never heard of Darius Morris....hmmm. Lestar, I know some people were hyped about him. I hope he's another D in the R like Arian. Would have been nice to have Barber out there. Wow! the injury bug was even worse than I thought. Rep for the reminder. We are going to be AWESOME next year! no doubt about it! Go Texans!

ESPN’s Mike Greenberg feels that historic season would not be over.

“If they had Matt Schaub,” the radio host said of the Texans’ injured starting quarterback, “they would have won the Super Bowl.”

The season ended on Sunday, when third-string rookie quarterback T.J. Yates threw three interceptions in the 20-13 loss at Baltimore.

Yates became the starter with Schaub and back-up Matt Leinart were lost with season-ending injuries.

“TJ Yates, he may have a very bright future. He’s played so few games and all that,” Greenberg continued. “If everything was equal, and they had Matt Schaub in that game yesterday, they would have won easily.”

Greenberg’s sidekick Mike Golic stepped in, too.

“My opinion is they would still be in the playoffs right now,” he said.

“I completely agree with you,” Greenberg continued. “They look like the most complete team, along with the Giants, that we are watching right now.”

I don't know that Schaub can handle the heat that some defenses put on QBs. There were times late this season, and in playoff games, that TJ avoided sacks and completed passes...when Schaub would have been sacked easily.

Yates was never sacked Sunday.

The downfall of Yates was him being the scout team QB and not the QB2. And, being a rookie. And not playing his first game until the last part of the reg season.

I think Kubiak can't wait to let Knapp and Dennison have a full camp with TJ Yates. He's the future.

I think Yates has some intangibles that Schaub doesn't have that can be built upon. I also think that Kubiak can teach Yates the tangibles. But Yates has a ways to go. Schaub is the near future. I don't want to see Yates again except for preseason games for a couple years.
 
I agree on the first part - Schaub in there yesterday? We win going away imo.

What I don't get is the TJ love. Looks like a decent #2 career backup. Has some tools and should improve but I don't see obvious future starter. His upside max to me is a Sage Rosenfels borderline type.

Schaub is the immediate to mid-term answer, but I don't see any real future with TJ Yates as a long term top flight QB. Maybe I am missing something but I have been watching QB's since some of you were knee high to a grasshopper. He is - and imo will always be a journeyman, but a good draft pick there at #5 to be sure. Not knocking his future but it is what it is.

As far as yesterday, he was horrible. TERRIBLE. He cost us the game even more than Mr. Bonehead.

People see Yates as more athletic and he is but more athletic isn't the same as more effective. Schaub feels the pressure better, moves in the pocket/available space better even if slower and most importantly gets the ball out on time and/or quicker than Yates. You can say oooh Schaub wouldn't have made that spin move to avoid the sack Yates did. Problem is that doesn't mean Schaub would have taken the sack because odds are he stayed in the pocket and took the hit as he delivered to OD between the hashmarks for a first down.

Peyton Manning makes Schaub look fast and he takes very few sacks because of pocket presence and getting the ball out quickly. Michael Vick is one of the fastest most athletic QB's ever and has always taken a lot of sacks due to bad judgement.
 
Ironically our seasons end was inevitable when the Pats released Fat Albert. They are sharp. They knew Fat Albert was responsible for like 90% of Schaubs missed games.... let him go, the Bucs picked him up and the rest is history. They secure home field and our season became glued together with a 3rd stringer on the road.

Slightly serious. But I am serious when I say there is not a player I despise more in the recent NFL than Fat Albert himself. He disgusts me.
