Watt family dilemma, Rose Bowl or Texans game?

Thought I'd pass along a story from an online news website serving the Waukesha, Wisconsin area (J.J. Watt territory).

"Waukesha Fire Lt. John Watt faces an interesting dilemma this New Year’s: go and watch one son play in the Rose Bowl or go to the Houston Texans game and watch another son play." - waukeshapatch.com

If you didn't know the background, Texans rookie defensive lineman J.J. Watt has two younger brothers and both, not surprisingly, play football.

According to the article, brother Derek is a freshman linebacker with the Wisconsin Badgers, and brother T.J., is a Pewaukee High School junior who just finished a notable season.

What a dilemma, and what an exciting time it must be for the Watt family.

The article provides a glimpse into the role Watt's parents played in keeping life lessons in the proper perspective for their sons and instilling values and beliefs that reinforce what's important beyond sports.

You can't help but be impressed by J.J., both as a football player, the way he handles himself in front of the media, and by what he's doing off the field with the Justin J. Watt Foundation. He's a kid that carries himself well beyond his 22 years.

The article goes on to say the Watt family is skipping the Rose Bowl and heading to H-town.

Well I'm sure their decision makes sense to them, and that's really all that matters... from the outside looking in, knowing that their oldest son will be playing a playoff game next week, I'd go check out the middle son's last game of the season..... in the freakin' Rose Bowl...

then again, they probably know the State of Texas rules the Rose Bowl anyway (UT twice, TCU once), so they may as well just go to Texas...

agree see the rose bowl and then see watts first play off game
I took a quick look-see at the Badger's roster and the younger brother is only a freshman who's not even listed on the teams DC so he's unlikely to even get on the field and who wants to watch their kid riding the bench for an entire game ? And JJ may have a house in Houston by now, if not a big enough apartment for parents to visit so it's probably also a lot cheaper visit to Houston than LA for his family.

hmm i thought they said his bro was a sophomore LB

The Rose Bowl is played on Monday. They have now invented airplanes. There are direct flights to LA from both Houston airports. Heck with the two hour time difference you can see the Texans game, hang with JJ after the game for an hour and still be in LA in time for dinner. Book it as a round trip to be back in Houston for the playoffs on the 7th or 8th. And hopefully the 22nd...

Isn't JJs Dad a Fireman or something like that, so unless the ole man wants to sponge off of his NFL-son that's a lot of money for somebody like him to cough up to fly hisself and wife all over the place in that short-period of
time ?

Easily the Texans. You don't really root for the player in college. Its all about the school and its pride. The Rose bowl is all about atmosphere and is a whole weekend full of festivities.

Besides... they already went last year.

This is what I was thinking also...
