Am I the only one concerned about next two games

It seems as though team and fans think next two games are gimmies. I don't see that at all. If we go out flat like last game we could easily lose one of them. I think if Texans win both they have a good chance of getting a bye. Just like last game they seem to be taking this one for granted. No NFL team can just go out and play flat and expect to win. Just ask the Packers. Just my opinion.

No one in their right mind should take any team/game for granted.

The guys on the other team want to win too.

Even the Colts

I'm not concerned, really. We SHOULD be able to blow these teams out of the water. I'll become concerned when we come up against a more competitive team than these two.

yes--it's just you.........., unless they have Cam Newton.

Or their other weapon, TJ Yates. Those interceptions were killer. He wasn't the only one at fault though. Kubiak kicking field goals in the 2nd half when the Texans were so far down was just plain dumb. Foster fumbling on the 1st drive was bad.

Kubiak better put his backup qbs in for a trial run to see what he has in live game action while it doesn't matter as much. Realistically the Texans don't have to win either of the next 2 games. It would help get a bye but they still have already clinched either way. I'm not saying bench Yates. Just play the backups a little now and see what they can do. If he waits until the playoffs and then at some desperate moment throws one of them out there it could be disasterous. Practice isn't the same and neither has played in the NFL this year. I'm only asking for a couple of drives each.

The main thing I'm concerned about going into these last 2 games are the turnovers. The last 2 games have been terrible for us in this area. If you turn the ball over 3+ times against anyone you're not going to win very many games. You almost expect a rookie QB to make mistakes in his first few starts, but running backs like Foster and Tate should not be putting the ball on the ground as much as they have this year. 2 fumbles on the 2nd play of the game in 4 games is unacceptable. Both of those led to Touchdowns as well.

umm.. if we had scored a td there instead of yates 2nd int its a 1 score game and we had all the momentum. the fact the offence was putting up points (even fgs) everytime the D stopped had reversed all of the panthers momentum back to us and they were getting ropey. nothing wrong with the fg decisions imo

The next two games are DIVISION games, so YES, I'm worried. Even though we've won the division, those two teams would LOVE to brag about beating us and claiming our "good" year was just a fluke! SCREW UM!!! I hope we FINALLY get a shut out with both teams!!

Not worried about the Dolts at all. They go down. The Titans might rear up and embarrass us though. And I say that in spite of the Dolts beating the Titans this weekend.

I just remember how good our sorry teams played in December to make us think the next year was going to be better. So yeah, I'm a bit worried. We beat the Colts with a Kris Brown FG on Dec 24th when they went the Colts went to the Super Bowl that year.

I never like to take any opponent fro granted.
"On any given Sunday" is proof of that.
The Colts have tatsed winning and want that taste again.
The Titans are trying tro go out with a bang and are mad at losing to the Colts and may show off Locker. Plus Finnegan may be playing for his job.
Both of these neeed to be played with our highest level of intensity and mistake free to win out.
Oh and like GMA said, they are division games which count toward our seeding.

I'm concerned. With the way we played this past Sunday I'm not sure how you can't be concerned. We were even soundly beaten on defense.

Plus, we've never beaten the Colts at their place.

I'm worried, but I'm not.

We've got the division, we're in the play-offs. 1st round bye would be sweet, but it's not the most important thing on our plate right now.

The most important thing is for us to get our game plan down pat... we need to be perfect executing our game plan.

I don't care if the coaches think we're closer to the Super Bowl by putting Delhomme or Garcia in the game & getting them up to speed or if we're better off going with Tj Yates. All I care, is that they make the decision & move forward with the Super Bowl, winning the Super Bowl, in mind.

I am not going to start nit-picking every decision the Texans make at this point.

& I definitely don't buy this, "taking things for granted" crap... two teams take the field every Sunday & while the Panthers weren't playing for the play-offs, they had plenty to play for.

Really?

I'd take those FGs. Had we scored on that INT drive, we're down by 8. Get another stop out of your defense, & we're on a potentially game tying drive.

We weren't very successful in the first half, I'd take those FGs, those little successes, & move on.

I think the next two games are "practice" for the play-offs. Like I said earlier, they need to go ahead & make up their minds how they want to go forward.

I do not agree with throwing Delhomme or Garcia out there just to "see what they got" If they don't know in practice that those two guys are a better option than Tj they need to stay on the side lines.

Go with your first team, find as many things that need to be "fixed" & fix them.

Plus, we've never beaten the Colts at their place.

I think that may be overstating things there.

They didn't run the ball the way they like to, except for that last drive where we're trying to strip the ball instead of tackling. Cam's rating was up there, but he didn't have a good day throwing the ball (no turnovers, but other than that, 56% completion, 6.5 yard average)

If not for the turnovers & short fields, we'd have had another nice day defensively. They scored 14 points on turnovers & another cost us 7 points. Score could've been 20-14 Houston.

I know it wasn't, just saying the defense & the running game did what they were supposed to do. The turnovers killed us.

I see us winning our final two games, but losing the playoff game.

Flame me, I don't care.

Indy is a weak sister, and we beat up weak sisters even with Yates at QB.

We got the Titans at home, and they will lay down and die.

First playoff game will be close, but our inexperience in the playoffs (the nerves and the anxiousness) will sink in and be our demise.

And even if that happens, I'll be happy with this season. The AFC South title and a playoff game, IMO, makes me satisfied with the direction of the Texans. Anything more is icing on the cake for me.

First playoff game will be close, but our inexperience in the playoffs (the nerves and the anxiousness) will sink in and be our demise.
Being at home should help some of that.

Not at all. No way.

We clinched the division 2 weeks ago. The last three games of the year should have been (should be, concerning the last two) about positioning & preparing this team to win those games.

I'm never going to turn my back on the Texans. I'm never going to gripe, *****, whine, & moan about "bad seasons" "inept coaches" & things like that.

But the Super Bowl is the expectation. Always has been. It's a shame that Kubiak doesn't have Andre, Mario, & Schaub in the line up, but he overcame all that & got us in the play-offs.

He's going into the play-offs knowing what he's got, time to do some coaching.

That said, I'll celebrate our first play-off game, just like I celebrated our first 9 win season. But there should be no parades until we win the AFC Championship game then again when we win the Super Bowl.

Texans pissed about losing trap game last week at home and have never won in Indy and Texans have by far superior talent and something to play for (BYE) where as Indy risks losing Luck with another win.

All those reasons IMO = Texans win if not win comfortably.

Against Titans, by then they could have nothing left to play for and could be checked out mentally. Texans will be at home and probably have one last shot at a BYE if they win. Hopefully will be coming off first ever win in Indy and will not want to let down home fans again with another stinker.

IMO = Texans win against Titans.

I think we can win last 2 and hopefully get a BYE.

After that, stick with Yates and play football and see what happens. I'm not delusional or on enough Yates kool aid to think we are winning a Super Bowl this year, but I think with the right home matchup we have a damn good shot at a playoff win. IMO, do not start a back up, we ride with what we got, He knows the system and has been actively playing and has the chemistry with the team. Don't screw that up.

Either way, time to just enjoy the ride.

:fans: :htown2atx: :jam:

I don't see the next 2 games as "gimmies" but I do think we win at the Indy for the 1st time. The game I think we could lose is the one with the "tacks" and depends if they are still fighting for a wild card or not. As for the playoffs, I hope we do win both these games and get a bye, then play a home game. They win that and they're in the AFC championship game! That would be sweeeeet! :texflag:

My but we're a greedy little one aren't we?
I love it.

If it were us staying at home & the Titans, Indy, or even Jacksonville going to the play-offs, I'm pretty sure we're going to do whatever we can to beat them.

Knock them out of homefield... we'll try to beat them.

Knock them out of a bye week.... we'll try to beat them.

Just to mess up their Mo going into the play-offs..... we'll try to beat them.

Now the shoes on the other foot, I don't think for a second that beating a division rival isn't enough to get them up for this game if only to say, "you're not better than us!!"

Nope, not really concerned. Call me ignorant, call me obstinate, call me blissfully unaware, but we ought to beat the $#%% out of our next two opponents.

We got our wake up call, we'll have Andre back for the second one (bank it!), and the team is ready to see what they've got in the playoffs.

As long as TJ doesn't screw the pooch, the Texans will be fine.

Agree with this. It wouldn't exactly be a great vote of confidence for TJ to pull him and let the guys who were on the street 3 weeks ago run things just to see how they do. Our wagon's hitched to Yates, for better or for worse. He's easily had the greatest exposure of our healthy QB's to our offense this year and has the right tools, I can't fathom starting from scratch again 2 weeks from our first playoff game.

You know the old saying "On any given Sunday", since we are playing on Thursday I'm comfortable. We should beat :ant: their azzzes.

3 and 1/2 games is hardly hitching your wagon to someone. The guy looks at one receiver after he drops back. He is struggling terribly to read defenses. Go ahead and not see what we have in our so called backups. See where the Texans end up with "their wagon hitched to TJ for better or worse". Kubiak is not trusting TJ because the play calling is extremely conservative.

Dang it gafftop.

What!!! Not my fault. Kubes still the HC. I just hope Kubiak doesn't try to pin this on TJ by making change to one of the others. We need to use the next game to open it up. Go big or go home. Don't play scared. Kubes still hasn't learned that.

I know... just messin with ya. (though you may want to post some positive mojo for next week.... just in case)

I know. I am now not concerned at all about the next game. It means nothing in the standings but everything in what we can gain from it. We need to use this game as the ULTIMATE practice. If we want to get past the 2nd round we need to change our attitude and approach on offense. Let's try do something out of the box. You need to stretch the field.

Dangit, this was one of those monkeys we needed to get off our backs( never won in Indy) and we let " bookem Dan O" beat us, argh!

What bothers me the most when I start some of these threads is the negative rep I get just for starting them and expressing my opinion. I don't think you should get neg rep for starting a thread or expressing an opinion no matter how outlandish it may seem to YOU. Take this one for instance.

The good news is you just never know what is going to happen once the game starts. Three wins at the end of the season and guess what?? You never know, do you.

It seems as though team and fans think next two games are gimmies.

Just my opinion.

I'd like to know what gave you the idea that we or the team thought these games would be gimmies. I never got that vibe.

Did you read some of the posts. I know all the fans did not feel that way but it sure seemed that some did and it sure looked as though the players and coaches might have. So based on my post you think it is correct to neg rep someone.

yea, you were the only one.

You were also the only one to think that 9/11 was a tragedy, that chocolate + peanut butter was a revelation, and that thought that raw-dogging a wimmin is better than using rubber.

herpaderpppppp

It doesn't matter. Either we can win it the playoffs or it doesn't. The fact that we have the 3rd seed and we will be facing the weakest playoff team in the wildcard round at home, gives us a good chance of doing the former.

One playoff win is hella good way to end the season... we probably wouldn't done that if we had the #2 seed. Balty is gonna run us ragged, regardless of playing at home or on the road.

It makes you wonder if Kubiak is thinking this way. He knows he has no shot at getting to the superbowl so he positions his team to play the easiest playoff game possible to get a win. If they pull it off it builds confidence/hunger/experience for next year. Just a thought. When Kubiak has time he usually overthinks stuff and screws up. The smartest guy in the room thing.

So you're saying he threw the game?

You don't think he put it on the defense to win the game? The strongest part of the team?

You just think he threw the game?

No I don't think he did. I do think he hamstrung the offense so much that it made winning a much harder feat. Kubiak has been playing not to lose lately and that is exactly what its causing. Losses. If Kubiak doesn't play Jake or Jeff some in this meaningless Titans game then I have to question what the hell he is really thinking. Get some rust off these guys in case they are needed when it counts. At least one of them. If he just puts Yates out there for 4 quarters and calls the same type of game that we have seen recently that resulted in losses then what is the point. I have a feeling we will see one of them but with backups out there to play with. No way to really see what either one can still do like that playing against a division opponent trying to make the playoffs. We all saw what Delhomme did in Cleveland. It would probably look that bad if Kubiak throws him out to the wolves with 2nd stringers against a hungry team. Not really a "true" picture of what we can expect.

I'm not really understanding this.

You know they don't count sacks as pass attempts? & they don't count QB scrambles as pass attempts either. He was sacked 4 times & they credit him with one rushing attempt. Add those 5 to his 16 attempts & we've got 21 pass attempts compared to Arian Foster's 23 carries.

You can add 6 carries for Tate & 1 reverse by Jacoby & we're looking at 30 "run" plays to 21 pass attempts. It's not as out of whack as some would make it seem.

We had 10 3rd down situations, we attempted to pass the ball on 6 of them, ran a draw on one, one came after Tj was sacked, & a third came late in the game to run the clock down to 2 minutes.

I've watched the game three times & I don't have a problem with the flow of the game. It looks like a good mixture of run & pass.

It looks no different than our first game against the Titans when Matt threw the ball 23 times with no sacks. Or the Bucs game where he threw the ball 15 times & we still scored 41 points against the Titans & 37 points against the Bucs.

Tj Yates was no more hamstrung against Indy, Carolina, Cincinnati, or Atlanta than Matt was in any of our winning games.

QFT.
Finally someone who sees what I see. This is the same offense Schaub had been running all year. The kid just needs more seasoning - and Andre Johnson back - to make it work more effectively.

One nit though. That one rushing attempt was a kneel down to end the first half not a scramble. If the QB runs out of bounds behind the LoS on a pass attempt, the guy chasing him gets credited with a sack.

The last two games don't really have me pumped up. I'd like to put a whooping on Titans to get back up for this team.

My father called me and asked if I though Kubiak was simply watering-down the playbook so as not to overload Yates and/or to not give the playoff opponents anything to scout for. I'm beginning to wonder myself.

I don't know why fans attempt to soothe their troubles by thinking the coach is somehow saving the best plays for the playoffs.

1. It behooves the coach to win as many games as he can, to try and get a first round bye (which means 2 weeks of rest and preparation...and automatic entry into round 2 of the playoffs).

2. There is 14 games worth of film on us that a playoff opponent will access. I don't see how we would spill the beans in games 15 and 16 if we used the full playbook. You either can beat your opponent's defense or you can't. Period.

Not slamming you, disaacks. Just saying that this is a way to tell your dad that the theory of us saving the best for the playoffs is likely not the case.

I think the injuries have caught up to us, Yates has not had a full camp and reps as even the #2 guy (let alone the #1 guy), and not having Wade Phillips rallying the troops has been a part of the problem, too. EDIT: Not having a true #1 WR threat has hurt, too. As has not having quality #2 WR behind him.

We can win with defense if the offense will score around 20 points.
