This was a good loss......

....., if there is such a thing.

I'd love for us to win every game, but it's not always possible. There are several reasons why I believe this loss was a good one.

1) We had won 7 games in a row for the first time in our history & might've been starting to believe the headlines about how good we were. This loss brings us back down to earth & reminds the players that you can't just go through the motions.

2) T.J. Yates came on like gangbusters & hadn't failed yet. While he seems to be well grounded, it's kind of difficult not starting to read the headlines & listening to the media about how good you are. This should serve to bring him back on point & help him to soak up more of Kubiak's teachings.

3) The defense has been on top pretty much all season long & hasn't had to face a loss in a while. Let's hope this loss reinforces the hunger & fire they've shown all year & causes them to take it up another notch.

4) The offense has been sleep walking through most of the games this year & have had to have Gary get in their grills during the games to light a fire under them. Maybe now, they'll get serious. Even with a rookie QB & AJ out for the year, there's no reason why they couldn't be a top 5 offense in the NFL.

5) Finally, the main reason I believe this was a good loss is the timing of it. With two games left in the season, I'm hoping this loss serves as a wake up call & that they refocus on the task at hand. If it shakes out that way, then we should be going into the playoffs with a renewed hunger & drive to push it all the way to the Superbowl. After all, this team has as much talent as any other team out there.

Go Texans!!! :texflag:

You forgot

6) It was a non conference game.

But I'm NastyNate, and I approve this message. My thoughts exactly sir.

i agree.

teams should never want to lose but we NEEDED a humbling experience. i personally hate that our defense is giving itself names. ITS BEEN HALF A YEAR. the ravens never name their d. neither do the steelers. their name is their team name. those team names become synonymous with good defense. not this bullsonparade mumbo jumbo.

we needed a reality check to keep this team hungry, and not complacent, IMO.

IF (yeah, right with some of the folks on this board) you have good reading skills, you'll see the OP's point.

Good post. It's not a GOOD loss, but the way you put it, I understand where you are coming from here.

This franchise has never had to deal with success, so it will take some time to get used to it.

They got to learn to win when they are expected to win.

With two divisional rivals coming up, we can expect another couple of good tests before the playoffs, which don't forget we are in for the first time.

As a fighter for over 10 years, I've always lived by the mantra that there's nothing wrong with a quality ass whooping: It keeps you honest. I always recognize myself or someone around me getting a little too mouthy is usually because they haven't had a quality ass whooping in a while.

There are a few lessons in victory, but a thousand in defeat. The team should curb-stomp these next two games.

Let's see ravens, texans, and packers all lost today I would say all are top 5 teams everyone is beatable everyone loses this is just one. Texans are still going to playoffs just cause a team has 1 bad game doesn't mean the team sucks just means they got out coached out played or just a whatever game.Better now than the playoffs where it counts.

Good post here. Just from a sheer odds standpoint, the goal is to win the Super Bowl. How likely is it to win 13 games in a row after starting 3 - 3? How many streaks of 13 + wins have there been in NFL history? Like ten maybe?

Get us to refocus. Come out and destroy Indy.

would of liked to od seen a win, but it is what it is. thank god its a short week, i had forgotten what it felt like to dissapointed after a texans game. Maybe this game was good for the fans as well.

I'm not sure TJ can handle the pressure. He had trouble seeing defenders sagging in the weeds and was a pick machine. I want to believe he can bounce back, but man.........:texflag:

I agree with the OP, and posted much the same thing on my Facebook status when we got home. Never hurts for the idol to remember its clay feet once in a while.

I'm happy we didn't have any starters get hurt for the first time in a long time.

Everyone's going to lose sometime. I'd rather lose to a Cam Newton led team
than a Kyle Orton led team.

We got beat. We regroup we move on. I'd rather it be here than a game in January or February.

Good, positive post. Repped

The team needs to refocus and realize they can't take any team for granted.

I am confident that Kubiak will have no problem getting players' attention this week. Hope he allows them time to rest with light work out and walk throughs before leaving for the bitter north.

TJ has allowed me to adapt my mock draft as he should be #2 behind Schaub with Leinert offering competition in his last year of contract.

I agree, EXCEPT Balt. lost and we'll see what the Steelers do tonight.

But if the choice was lose to Carolina or lose in the first round of the playoffs, I pick yesterday.

There is no such thing as a good loss. However, a little humble pie chased with meek vinegar never hurt anyone. We just have to see how they respond from this on Thursday.

I think this was the first loss I felt at ease with. All the previous losses I would question why I still follow this team. Questioning why we couldn't get it together. So yeah it was a great loss because it was the first loss where I was still a fan of a winning team. Thank you Texans, I waited for this moment for a long time. (There were dark times, times where it seemed like it would never happen, but you guys did it. Thank you.)

I'm in the camp that a loss that humbles and refocuses you can be a really good thing. You usually see that happen in Hoops, but also in the NFL.

That said, I'm worried to an extent about TJ leading this team forward.

Lots of newcomer QB's do really well for the first two to three games and then DC's have a chance to get some tape on you. They find out what you can do well and where you have holes in your game. They then scheme to make you beat them by doing things in areas of the field where you have some holes. The great and even really good QB's will still be able to execute and beat teams. The mediocre and poor QB's won't.

I think we will find out where TJ stands. I'm quietly optimistic that he will be able to make adjustments to the scheming, but not confident. We may still win the next two even if he isn't making the leap, but we could be potentially exposed in the playoffs.

I think winning one playoff game would be a great achievement for this team that has had so much adversity. Anything above that would put me into orbit.

Go Texans

A loss is never good but they do expose your weaknesses so that you can prepare in other areas to fix your issues but there is no such thing as a good loss or a good ass whipping, but they will happen none the less!!!!

The longer the winning streak is, the more pressure you have to extend it. Though I hate losses, I believe it was good that they got a little taste of that sourness right before the playoffs, got the pressure of that streak off of them, and can come back down to earth now and re-focus after setting some huge milestones in this franchise's history (7 game win streak, division crown).
