Quick Take from NFL.com

Texans aim to keep pace with AFC's elite

Why to watch
The Texans secured the AFC South (playoff picture), but surely want to retain a top-two seed, with Baltimore, New England and Pittsburgh also with 10 wins already. With all of the injuries they have suffered, however, it's easy to wonder if Houston starts to rest some workhorses down the stretch.
Inside story
Cam Newton has taken a step back in ball protection the past few weeks, and his poor decisions with the ball keyed Atlanta's comeback win a week ago. Teams have taken away more of the deep stuff to Steve Smith as well. T.J. Yates comes in sky high after marshalling a few Tebow-esque drives in Cincy last week to secure the division title. Arian Foster is averaging just 3.2 yards per carry in the last three weeks -- Ben Tate looks fresher -- and has also lost his first two fumbles of the year in that span. Expect Andre Johnson to rest that hamstring another week.
Texans lead the series 2-0 over the Panthers.

I hope that this gives no one on the Texans any solace going into this game. The past as a prediction from one season to another is essentially worthless.

As far as our running game, Arian is best when there are widely open holes there for him. Tate has an increased tendency to be able to make those hole and take it through traffic. He of course uncharacteristically did fumble twice in that game. But, I have to say that our Oline probably has something to do with all of the above. Whether due to injuries or not, they have not looked to me like the crisp and virtually flawless Oline of mid-season. If that doesn't straighten up, I'm afraid that we will feel the adverse impact by the first game of the post-season.

Sort of wonder who wrote this up-to-date prophetic Quick Take. The "footprint" for this article shows that it was published 12/18 (today).

Here is some of the usual stuff on the game day thread. Sorry I don't have the software on this PC to pretty it up.

While the newly crowned AFC South champion Houston Texans clinched their first playoff berth last weekend, coach Gary Kubiak’s focus remains on what lies ahead.

Houston’s immediate future, though, remains a little unsettled with news of defensive coordinator Wade Phillips’ temporary medical leave of absence.

Hoping to persevere through Phillips’ leave, the Texans look to extend their franchise-best winning streak to eight games Sunday against the visiting Carolina Panthers.

I have a bad feeling about this game. Overlooking a crappy team and all.

Then again, in always have a bad feeling around this time on Sundays. Maybe it's just a "movement" needed?

Hey, blame Lucky. He's the one who changed my thread title and made it the game day thread.

But, speaking of staring fate in the face, besides me doing the game thread, I'm also drinking on game day which I don't usually do. But, with tomorrow off, I'm gonna drink some beer and spit in the face of fate. :texflag:

But, to appease the Football gods, I am making my usual game day meal of sliced sausages with potatoes, green beans, corn, and Seasame Chili oil.

I hope it works! I haven't had one beer during a Texans game this season, and I'm not brave enough to stare down the football gods at this point lol.

That sounds like an epic gameday meal btw.

Fire going in the pit, ribs seasoned, 15 bean soup with a ham hock (never had that), mustard and collard greens with salt pork, and sweet potatoes....oh and a little barley and hops. Gameday baby!!

Yaters Gonna Yate.
Today's game will involve a fake kickoff with 11 gold footballs, and Miami kicking a field goal.

So my dreams told me. LOL

Flash Fact:

No rookie 5th round draft pick has ever won his first 3 starts. 2 is the record.

A minor record though it is; nevertheless, it could go towards proving that TJ Yates isn't just a flash in the pan (like the other rookie 5th round QBs he is lumped in with).

The keys to the kingdom on offense:

- Yates has to get his completion percentage up.

- Get the Yates to Maehl chemistry going.

- Run the friggin' ball!!!

On defense (it's simple):

- Better CB play than they've ever had this year. This is a preview of kick ass offenses we could face in the playoffs.

- But also, contain the running QB. This is also a preview of what we could face in the playoffs (See Touchdown Jesus, in Denver).

- Unicorns & Rainbows.

Whoa....hold up. AT&T UVerse guide says that the "Children's Medical Center Parade" is coming on in the Texans slot. What the hell?

Edit: Scratch that. I'm tarded. Its on FOX. Go Texans!! :toropalm:

He may be calling the plays, but I'm assuming Wade still prepared the game plan. I don't expect to see much difference.
