Report out now is he was attempting to make a $2 mil per month purchase to expand his existing about $1 mil per month existing distribution.

As to why he would do it, he was making $685,000 in about to be over football career that was his second job anyway.
 
This story is just mind boggling. The numbers they're throwing out there would make him one of the biggest if not the biggest drug dealer in Chicago. I remember hearing the story when Nate Newton was arrested after being stopped with 500 lbs of pot in his van. I thought it was HUGE. That was nothing compared to this story. I wouldn't be surprised if he not only has clients among NFL players, but also partners/investors. Coming up with $750K a week to get your drug dealing business going isn't that easy if that's what your annual NFL salary is. Unreal.

No no no, I mean why would HE do it himself? Why isn't HE sending out a henchman to make the deals and basically be a fall guy if **** hits the fan?

I would say out of basic stupidity. He should have watched the Wire - all the big time guys get away with it. LOL
 
This is the perfect example of stupid right here. Great athlete that makes hundreds of thousands of dollars and should have Millions put away in the bank after playing football for several years, and he's out there selling dope like a complete moron. This is the typical effect of guys thinking they have to act like thugs, and wanting to be hood superstars. Being an athlete obviously wasn't enough, because he wasn't doing this for the money. He had more than enough money to live a wealthy lifestyle and take care of his family. He obviously was caught up in the hood lifestyle and believed that it was glorified to be a big time drug dealer.
 
Hurd, who sold himself as a church-going Christian, would have been making about $700,000 a week off drug sales based on the amount of drugs he is alleged to have negotiated for.

His annual salary with the Bears was $685,000.

Hurd is facing 40 years in prison.

Dallas Cowboys receiver Sam Hurd is fast becoming a San Antonio version of Oprah Winfrey.

Like the Chicago-based television icon, Hurd is into giving things away. So much so that his family often wonders if he's being too generous.

"We worry about him," said Jawanda Newsome, Hurd's older sister. "Everyone knows he has a generous heart and is not the kind of person to say no. I kind of get upset because people take advantage of him."

But the concerns Newsome and others have raised haven't stopped Hurd from making plans to share a recent windfall from the NFL's performance-based bonus program with family members and local charities.

For logging more than 600 plays in 2007, the Brackenridge graduate received a team-high $215,495. The program started in 2002 as part of the collective bargaining agreement and supplements salaries of players whose playing time is disproportionate to their base salaries.

Hurd's hefty bonus pushed his overall 2007 pay to $575,495, or $14,458 more than Pro Bowl running back Marion Barber received, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Hurd, who turns 23 this month, says he plans to spread the wealth through donations to the YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club. His parents — Gloria and Sam Hurd Jr. — will also receive benefit.

"God took care of me. Now it's my turn to take care of them," Hurd said.

Newsome said her brother is helping to pay for the sprucing up of their parents' home near Brackenridge. He's also covered the tuition for his younger brother Sammal's first semester at Blinn Junior College, Newsome said.

"He's always giving my mom cash to do whatever she wants with it," said Newsome, a behavior consultant/analyst who works with autistic children. "Then my mom gives it to other family members, and Sam's like, 'I gave that money to you, for you.' I can see where he gets it from."

In 16 regular season games last season, Hurd logged two starts and caught 19 passes for 314 yards and one TD. He finished sixth on the team in special-teams tackles with 15 and forced one fumble.

Hurd, who joined the Cowboys in 2005, is scheduled to become a restricted free agent at the end of next season. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said twice last month his No. 1 offseason personnel goal is to add an elite receiver to line up opposite Terrell Owens, a move that could decrease Hurd's playing time.

"I don't worry about that," Hurd said. "They drafted a receiver last year (Isaiah Stanback). What I do is go out there and give my all."

Newsome expects her brother to do the same to promote the Sam Hurd Celebrity Weekend/Golf Tournament June 20-21 at The Palmer Course at La Cantera.

Several of Hurd's teammates, including Owens, are scheduled to attend the event, which benefits the San Antonio Kids Exchange, the Autism Society of Greater San Antonio, the Boys & Girls Clubs and the Davis-Scott YMCA.

"I'm trying to give back," Hurd said.

SAN ANTONIO - Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Sam Hurd was arrested at a YMCA in San Antonio Thursday for allegedly violating the terms of his bond, previously set by the United States District Court in Dallas.

A release from the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force said Hurd was taken into custody without issue for allegedly failing a drug test for marijuana. He was arrested as he exited his vehicle in the YMCA parking lot.

Interesting read on Hurd, who was still trying to buy massive amounts of cocaine & pot even after his first arrest that cost him his job. Sounds like a charismatic, straight up criminal.

SAN ANTONIO - - Sam Hurd had settled into a rather anonymous life in his hometown.

He went fishing with his aunt.

He volunteered at a food pantry.

On some nights, he played flag football. It wasn't the NFL, but it was fun.

"Who wouldn't miss the NFL?" the former Bears special team player and wide receiver told the Tribune on a sun-baked afternoon the first day of August. "The life, the camaraderie with teammates, new people coming in, new opposition, new coaches."

A moment later, he chuckled: "Obviously everybody misses their check, too."

In December, Hurd's NFL career - one that had earned him a multimillion dollar contract and moved him from San Antonio's toughest neighborhood to comfortable suburban living - came crashing down when federal authorities arrested him on charges of trying to form a massive drug ring in Chicago.

The Bears cut ties, police impounded his Cadillac Escalade and Hurd sold his home in Texas.

More than seven months after that arrest - and eight days after speaking with the Tribune - Hurd, 27, was in handcuffs again. This time it was in San Antonio, for allegedly using drugs. While out on bail, he tested positive for marijuana in two urine tests. Records also show Hurd allegedly bought 30 pounds of marijuana while out on bail and tried a few weeks later to buy an additional 200 pounds, plus 5 kilograms of cocaine.

"Shock, surprise," said Joaquin Arch, who helped organize Hurd's youth football camps and trained with him at the YMCA recently. "It was definitely a blow..."

Former Dallas Cowboy co-defendant pleads guilty
Agrees to testify against Sam Hurd
DALLAS (AP) -- A Dallas man accused of working with former Dallas Cowboys receiver Sam Hurd to arrange large-scale purchases of cocaine has pleaded guilty to a federal charge.

Toby Lujan pleaded guilty Friday to one count of possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. His plea deal calls for a prison sentence of 5 to 40 years. It also requires him to testify if asked.

Hurd and Lujan were indicted in January. Hurd allegedly told an undercover officer he wanted to buy five to 10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana per week to distribute in the Chicago area.

Sam Hurd has been sentenced to 15 years for drug trafficking.

Hurd's attorney just told media he's glad the judge did not sentence Hurd to life

Hurd also said in court their are NFL players who still owe him money for marijuana he sold them.

Hurd stood before the judge and begged for a second chance. He said his pot addiction lead him to make bad decisions.

Judge Solis told Hurd you had a great career going in NFL but decided to throw it away and go down another path.
