Awesome! I think Yates will ultimately be one of those players that a lot of teams are going to regret passing over for 4-5 rounds.

They can have their Luck. I'm drinking Yaterade! :texflag:

"Polian would also like Colts fans to know that he almost came up with a better solution than Curtis Painter as his quarterback this season.

“We were getting ready to draft [T.J. Yates] in the very same round,” Polian said via the Indianapolis Star. “Houston picked before us if I’m not mistaken. Should we have taken him a round earlier? Yes, without question.” "

Should have included the next line in the article:

The Colts didn’t have a pick in the fifth round when Yates was drafted.

The funny part about this entire story, Indy actually traded their 5th rounder to Washington to grab Ben Ijalana. Washington traded us that pick to move up and select Roy Helu. We actually used Indy's original 5th rounder to select Yates.

Amazing how many teams were going to get him.

Seems a but revisionist history to me.
Also, TJ was the 9th out of 12 quarterbacks taken in the 2011 draft. He simply wasn't as sought after as these teams are implying. Revisionist is EXACTLY right. This is reeks of the career spinwagon running rampant. A whole bunch of pathetic job-saving coulda, woulda, or shoulda last ditch comments.

Eff them all. He's 10000000000% Kubiak's work. I remember Kubiak saying something like... TJ was too good of a value to pass up so we took him despite not looking for a QB. Good going, Gary!

Agree with Nitro, we've got to give credit where it's due. And Kubiak and Smith deserve high praise for drafting Yates when QB was not a specific need.

Definetly the work of Kubiak, it seems whoever has been thrown out under center knows what there doing.

Fairly new here, mostly a lurker, but I have always been a supporter of Kubiak's work on offense and his ability to have players(especially QB's) ready. Even Sage Rosenfels was prepared, its just that Kubiak wasn't prepared for the Rosencopter..:mariopalm:

Not only that, but drafting a project QB when his job was on the line. Balls.
Add to that actually having that guy prepared to play in the NFL ..... against some pretty damn good defenses in Jax , Atl and Cincy. Two of those have been top 6 units all year.

Holy crap! You're right.

Here you go: Pick #21 in the 5th round, #151 overall, Texans (From Colts through Redskins) Yates, Taylor

EDIT: Even more mind-boggling is that Yates was our second pick in the 5th round......after Shiloh Keo....

Why are all of theses articles coming out about this team or that team wanting to draft Yates? Who cares and what does it matter who says what now?

If those teams were interested in Yates at all he wouldn't have been available in the 5th round. They obviously didn't want him that much. Hell, we didn't even want him that much to have drafted him that late.

Rick Smith said they were really surprised he fell to the fifth round. They expected him to go in the 3rd at the latest.

The Texans had too many holes to fill to take a QB. But it was too good of a pick to pass up in the 5th.

It's not like he fell off the board completely, like Foster. ALL teams screwed the pooch on him, with the minor exception of the Texans for picking up a FA based on some skill sets they liked in him.

As far as articles, we are fans! This is what we do! If you don't like it, don't click the thread. :)

Have you seen articles with other teams besides Indy? I only saw the one about Polian.

I think Dalt will end up good, but not TJ Yates good, probably something to do with gingers and no souls and whatnot.

Of course people will say that after the fact. Does anyone have a quote claiming this before the Jacksonville game? If not, it's probably BS. Polian is just posturing to save face for having the third winless team in NFL history.

Irony, sweet irony.
And Kubiak and Smith deserve high praise for drafting Yates when QB was not a specific need.
But even they passed on Yates to take Shiloh Keo. Belichick gets a ton of credit for drafting Tom Brady. But even Belichick took a bunch of crap players in previous rounds. Sometimes, you have to give credit to the coaches developing the player, and the player himself.
I heard Redskins on the radio. (610 I believe)
Rick Smith said that he had heard the Skins were interested in Yates, so thaey demanded Washington's higher 5th rounder in a draft day trade.

Credit goes to the coaching staff and management. Even if he's awful for the rest of his career, he's already proven worthy of being a 5th round pick.

Dear Mr. Polian,

Thank you for screwing up my year of trying to build Mr. Painter's and Mr. Orlovsky's confidence and skills.

Pollian is such a colossal joke. He has made one bad personel decision after another. He got lucky with Peyton and he covered piss poor talent for years.

Breaking News: Johnson High substitute teachers union put in a claim for Yates to be their assistant varsity football coach but Yates was drafted by the Texans.
