Texans vs Bengals game will be blacked out in Cincinnati

Read it on the Bengals board. That is pretty surprising to me. They're in the middle of a playoff run, and with a good team coming to town, I would have expected them to sell out.

But, it's just fine with me if this turns out like the JAX and TB games (minus the injuries).

We need to be so grateful we don't face that in Houston anymore. I can remember the old Oiler days and worrying about it each week.

The worst part of this is the NFL blackout rule is lifted if a sell-out occurs 72 hours before kickoff. Counting back from Sunday at Noon (1:00 P.M. in Cincy), that means they have until Noon (again, our time) Thursday to achieve a sell out, and they're so far away, they're not even trying to get it lifted. And this is for a game between two teams that are currently playoff teams. Even Jacksonville seems to always take it right down to the wire - and sometimes succeed.

Pretty sad.

Cincy fans are bad, they didn't really support the Reds last year and for a while they were doing good.

That's a damn shame. I like all of the opposing fans to see their team dismantled by a big group of Texans.

Bengals-Texans officially blacked out

Sunday’s Bengals-Texans game at Paul Brown Stadium has the possibility of being a first-round AFC Playoff preview, but that still hasn’t been enough to get it to sellout.

The Bengals announced on Tuesday that the game will not aired locally or in Dayton in Lexington. It is the ninth blackout in the last 10 home games and the fifth in six home games this season. The only sellout was the Nov. 13 game against Pittsburgh.

Through five home games, Paul Brown Stadium has been filled to 75.7 percent of capacity, which is a league low. The average attendance has been 49,619 and the game two weeks ago against Cleveland drew just 48,260. Only two games have drawn over 50,000 — the Steelers game (63,262) and the Oct. 16 contest against Indianapolis (52,068).

UC’s Nov. 12 game against West Virginia had an announced attendance of 48,152, which was larger than the crowds for the first two Bengals home games against San Francisco (43,363) and Buffalo (41,142). The Bills crowd was the lowest for a regular-season game at Paul Brown Stadium.

Last season the Bengals were 10th in the league in attendance, drawing an average of 60,364 (92.1 percent capacity). In 2009, they were averaging 64,004 fans (16th in the league) and filling the stadium at 97.7 percent capacity.

The only other team in the league below 80 percent capacity this season (according to ESPN.com figures) is Miami, which is at 78.3 percent. The Dolphins are averaging 55,909 fans but all six of their home games have been shown in South Florida as the team and local television stations have bought up the remaining inventory. Here, the sales haven’t even gotten to the ballpark range for Local 12 (or in the case of the Niners game Fox 19) or local businesses to step in. Tampa Bay has had blackouts for five of their six homes games and are at 84.1 percent capacity (55,189 average).

The answer is actually Kentucky. :wadepalm:
YUP!! We had to fly into Louisville (although Lexington is about the same distance) and drive there. We stayed in Covington KY (across the river from the Stadium).

Not surprising that they are having trouble selling out. This was what it was like whenever I was there. The entire top of the stadium was empty like you see here:

For the record (and Yankee already knows my feelings on this), Skyline Chili and White Castle are horribly disgusting.

In the same way that you "don't fruit the beer" You do not pour chili over pasta! *GAGS*

I was in Cincinnati when they were getting ready to demo old Riverfront Stadium. There were a bunch of folks that had parked their cars on the side of the highway to view the event. Problem was, the spot they were in was overlooking Paul Brown Stadium not Riverfront. You could not see Riverfront from where they were parked.

I had a good laugh about it.

Cinci and Miami are selling less than Jax? I wonder if that is ONLY because of the tarps.

Exactly what I was thinking. I thought Jax was the lowest drawing team in the NFL. That is why I thought they are alway being discussed when LA is brought up about getting an NFL franchise.

That's what ESPN wants you to believe!

Is that why they aired aerial footage of N.C. & your stadium from 2010?

Had nothing to do with blue tarps buying a bunch of seats for your Monday Night Game?

Too bad the tarps are not teal/blue! No, it's the national media that's bulling Jville/small market. If you go research the size/attendence, you'll see w/the tarps, the Jags still have one of the bigger stadiums in the NFL. ESPN blew it Monday night....showing they don't care about you the viewer! It's lazy TV programing. I was there Monday Night, for a 3-8 team, I thought the crowd was a decent size. It wasn't a sell out, but it was enough not to be blacked out. That's how it's been since 2008, the last black out. This week vs the Bucs, may be the 1st black out? The Jags are terrible and the fans are ready for the season to be over ASAP. I'll be there Sunday vs the Bucs w/my family and my two Son's.

I know that I've teased you in the past about ALL-Tarp Field, but what ESPN did is just simply jacked up.

Pathetic that the Nati couldn't sell-out for an important game that has playoff implications. With a win their team would be Sunday would be 8-5 and in the playoff hunt.

The NFL has the "34 cent rule" where a team can avoid blackout by buying remaining tickets fro 34 cents on the dollar. Now let's see, if Cinci can only sell on average 50000 of 70000 tickets, then they would have to buy ~20000 tickets a game at 34 cents on the dollar. That would be ~ $850000 per game and $4250000 for 5 of 6 home games that haven't been sold out in 2011.

I remember last year Ocho Cinco bought about 3000 tickets to prevent a blackout. I think he gave them away or something, but it was nice of him to do it.
