Texans are going to sign Jeff Garcia as their third QB. They want 2 veterans behind rookie T.J. Yates. Jake Delhomme signed last week.

That stinks for Clemens. He really does seem like a good guy. Oh well, he's made more money than I'll see in a lifetime. Can't feel too bad for him.

Sounds like Clemens didn't pass his QB exam last week. LOL!
Great job Texans. Show the team that you are still working too!

why didnt they sign him in the first place and waste money on Kellen

im not the coaches but at this point i would think Kellen is a much better QB then Garcia .... hmm but hey im not the coaches who watch him 24/7

The Garcia fans get their pick! Haha

Not a bad idea I guess. Clemens was never going to see the field barring we our 3rd and 4th QB go down for the season. I like the idea of having these two veterans helping Yates. This is obviously TJ's job and I'm glad they're giving him any resource they can to help him grow.

I like this signing a lot more than the Delhomme signing. Garcia was one of the elite QBs in the league a few years ago and I think he can impart more useful knowledge to Yates than Delhomme can. I also feel better having him as the backup instead of Delhomme.

Does anyone know if Delhomme and Garcia are even mentor type players?

They could both be 'holes that only care about themselves.

Now that doesn't sound like the type of player the Texans usually sign but something in the back of my mind thinks Garcia has stated previously he only wants to be in a situation where he could be the man..... I might be misremembering.

You would expect however Garcia to learn a system faster than Clemens just based on experience.

Could this possibly be about having a mobile QB to practice against. Seems like now we got someone who will tuck it and run to practice against.

YES!!!

*cough* uhhh..I mean...yeah, cool. We need another vet QB.

This was actually my only concern regarding Garcia, but I guess if he's running the scout team, it's not as big a deal.

Everything I've heard regarding DelHomme is that he's a great person to be put in the mentor/big brother role. I think that's at least part of the reason he was chosen over Garcia last week.

I was wondering why KC was inactive last week and jake was in there, esp with the limited time there

The Texans have waived Kellen Clemens and signed Jeff Garcia at QB.

With all that experience competing at the backup spot, it should come as no surprise if one of these two veterans somehow manages to find his way into the starting line up by playoff time.

Texans to sign Garcia to replace Clemens

The Texans are going to sign quarterback Jeff Garcia to replace quarterback Kellen Clemens, who was placed on waivers today.

Garcia, who played for quarterbacks coach Greg Knapp at San Francisco, worked out for the Texans in each of the last two weeks. They wanted two veterans to play behind rookie T.J. Yates. Jake Delhomme was signed last week and was the No. 2 quarterback for Sunday’s 17-10 victory over Atlanta.

The Texans placed punter Brett Hartmann on injured reserve. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during the Falcons game. The team worked out some punters. Matt Turk, who punted for the Texans from 2007-2010 is a candidate, according to coach Gary Kubiak.

LOL.

I guess Garcia and his agent reduced their asking price. :kitten:

Glad to see this being done. Was verrrrrry shaky on the idea of Clemens being on the roster at all, and now we have two veteran guys to pool from if Yates gets injured.

On the topic of trying out punters, Matt Turk IS a candidate you say? It's a done deal. Gary wants familiarity any way he can get it (see: David Anderson). The Turk is gonna' be back, guys. Bank on it.

So our defense gets named "bulls on parade" and we sign Garcia. I guess YMCA is gonna be the new fight song? :ymca:

Yep

Gary loves him some Turk.

Kinda like Chris/Kris Brown, we wouldn't want to step out of our comfort zone.

100% agree with the bolded.

Garcia is better than Clemens. Just wonder how Garcia feels about being passed over twice by the Texans.

This is a serious puzzler.

They pass on Garcia for Clemens.

The bring Garcia back to work out with Delhomme.

Seems obvious they're going to sign Garcia this time around.

Nope! They sign Delhomme.

Then they waive Clemens and sign Garcia.

Maybe GP is right and Garcia was wanting too much money.

Or.....

Oh hell, what does it matter.

Welcome aboard, Mr. Garcia. Please put Carmella in the stands!

Yup... Texans just signed Turk. Man, after seeing Hartmann punt, we finally got to see a real punter in a Texans uniform. I guess we were getting too spoiled.

Kubiak is loyal, but this season, he's shown he's not afraid to let them go if they don't perform. DA was eventually dropped.

Man oh man!!!! If Garcia is lucky enough to pull that then I definitely want that kind of luck on my team. Eventually it has to turn into a Super Bowl right?

You can call it luck if you like.

I'm sure El Jefe would tell you it's all about confidence and making something out of nothing.

Jeff Garcia? Didn't he play back when they played in pastures while wearing leather helmets?

No but I hear that she....

...might wear leather occasionally

...maybe in pastures...

I saw Delhomme next to Yates after the TD and seemed to be giving feedback not just congratulations..
