i mentioned the importance of a holder elsewhere, but unless he's able to set it up on a magical 70 yard tee, there is no way i take turk back. he had his moments as a texan, but it's 2 years past time for turk to call it a career.

i need to watch some replays on the candidates however, bidwell is the only name i really recognize and if i remember right he's on the same decline.

i went to some of the indoor practices last year though and he was kinda like the grandpa of the team...good chemistry with the players I'm sure they'd love to have him back, id just rather sign a better player.

His punt average decreased 3 yards between 2008 and 2010, but his net average actually increased (by .1 yard). I'd give him a shot.

Not Turk though. He was just awful with the Jags. His net average went down 4 yard between last year and this year. I think that's a pretty big drop in just one season.

Their stats for their last year:

Josh Bidwell: 41.7 punt avg, 20.0% within 20 (2010)

Matt Turk: 39.7 punt avg, 25.9% within 20 (2011)

Matt Dodge: 44.8 punt avg, 27.8% within 20 (2010)

Glenn Pakulak:38.3 punt avg, 30.8% within 20 (2009)

Robert Malone:41.5 punt avg, 32.7% within 20 in 2010(only 1 game in 2011)

Ricky Schmitt (K) no punting stats in the NFL. Has not accrued stats since 2009.

Ken Parrish: no punting stats in NFL. 40.7 yards avg in college

Daniel Power: couldn't find stats on him.

I would take Dodge. He has a big leg and can kick 44.8 which is big. He had one bad punt in NY, the one to Desean Jackson that cost him his job.He may be the best available.

This

Although Dallass most eligible might be an option.

For all we know, he might be on crutches just to take precaution.

Is there any word on the preliminary assessment yet? I haven't seen anything.

I'm hoping he hyper-extended it and it's swollen. I've dislocated my knee on two different situations, back in college, and I can tell you that you go down like someone SHOT you in the knee and you just crumple to the ground with no concern except "God, please STOP IT FROM HURTING!" You think "Maybe I have blown the knee, maybe I've broken something."

But a dislocation and/or hyper-extension can also just have stretched the ligaments and tendons and you have swelling and lack of full mobility in it for the next few days.

I'm hoping that this is the case, and he gets the rest he needs.

Here is another name: Sam Paulescu. He has a Denver connection: check. He has a DC connection with Shanny: check. He hasn't had a lot of punts but he looks to be around 41 or 42 yards per punt. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets an invite due to Denver/DC connections.

I really think the Denver connection is dead and burried and has been since Shanny left.

Pickings will be slim at this point in the season ....

Turk.

I get a lot of Giants games up here and that one punt to Jackson wasn't Dodge's only blunder. He can kick it a mile however placement was never an attribute that he mastered. On top of this his kicks always seemed to lack the altitude that the Texans look for and they would constantly overshoot coverage and lead to nasty looking returns for opponents.

You gotta think that being able to handle snaps/holds for Rackers will be a huge factor in the tryout.

Turk is the "safe" choice. I'm hoping for someone with a little more leg, though.

Looks like they're bringing back Turk

Texans are bringing back punter Matt Turk, 43. He punted for them from 2007-2010. Rookie Brett Hartmann was placed on IR today.

Argh really don't like this. Yea he's been here before but the fact the Jags cut him should really tell you he just doesn't have it anymore.

He's really just coming here to be the holder.

We're not punting again the rest of the season. We'll just score touchdowns the rest of the way out.

Not suprising

Not much out there

The Steelers got lucky, Sepulveda blew his knee out and Kopinos was still out there.

When will the ghost of Turk go away? Atleast his leg should be well rested.

If it wasn't for Rackers being familiar with his holding, I'd be pissed at bringing Turk back. I just pray we don't have to rely on his punting much.

Welcome back, Shankapotomas

Matt friggen Turk. A player so great the Jags couldn't stand to be around his greatness so they cut him.

Eh Turk is getting old but I think he can at least do the job for us for just the next 4 games and then playoffs. I remember there were times when he could spot the ball inside the 10. And who could forget when we were playing the Packers in 2008, and it was like 4th and 17 and he decided to run it and got us a first down that kept the drive going? I remember watching that and I was just thinking there is no way he is getting to that marker but sure enough he did! Very overlooked play and moment in my opinion if you ask me.....

Matt Turk?! Even the friggin Jags cut him!!!

Maybe the Jags didn't NEED him! Doesn't mean he can't still get the job done. We've been believin in this team all year, lets not stop now! If they pick TURK then so be it! Lets just welcome him back to Houston and continue to be positive about the decisions Kubes is making. JMO!
