I was thinking the same about Kube's record, but didn't want to bring bad karma or anything.

I think Kubiak's record accurately reflects what kind of HC he's been thus far. His offenses have been very potent and his defenses have sucked. And make no mistake, his defenses have sucked because of Gary Kubiak. He delegated, he hired Richard Smith and Frank Bush, and he signed off on the draft picks.
We have two excellent coordinators for a change. I'm still waiting to see if Kubiak grows into the HC position. There aren't too many mediocre coaches in the NFL that get the opportunity to hang onto a gig this long and grow into the job.

I agree with you but the east/west coach bias is strong. West Coast Harbaugh will get it this year.

To me, today's win was a special milestone for Kubiak because we can finally say that The Texans beat a good team BECAUSE of Kubiak's head coaching (yes, I know Wade deserves a lot of credit also).
Reasons why Kubiak's coaching won this game:
-had a rookie 5th round QB fully coached up and ready to play effectively
-had an offensive gameplan for the rookie QB that perfectly balanced security with aggression and unpredictability
-aggressive late 4th down call in the red zone that all but won the game
-team answered falcon's game-tying drive with a killer 10-minute TD drive that featured all the good things kube's offense can do
-texans out-toughed a good, tough team in the 4th quarter (would have been better had it been on the road, but still)
-didn't step on his dick with that late, would-be challenge
-team had only 5 penalties (none of which seemed particularly egregious to my memory), and 1 "turnover"
Perhaps most impressive to me was the Texans second or third drive of the game (the one that ended with the Yates "fumble"). After starting out the game running, Kubiak called 4 or 5 Yates play-action passes in a row, many of which were down the field. To me, it was obvious then that Kubiak was prepared to go out and take this game rather than hope to pull one out with wade's d and the running game (with a few kubiak golden oldies like halfback passes and end-arounds thrown in)

Kubiak had his 3rd string qb ready. He threw the red flag at the right time and held it when he should of held it. His gamble in the forth quarter paid off with a td instead of 3 points, which kept us from going into ot. All things we sometime ***** at Kubiak for doing wrong some weeks he did right this week. This win more than any other since he has been here was his.

Coach Gary Kubiak said the team had NO plans to draft a quarterback, but couldnt pass on Yates. That was a great decision, today proved that.
Yeah that first challenge was an obvious forward pass ..... the refs called the play an "Interception" ..... how the hell do you intercept a pass that hits the turf ?
That 4th and 1 call with a rookie QB at the helm running the ball down the throat of the leagues second best rush defense was gutsy.
Having Yates NFL game ready ..... was a triumph in itself. Gotta give credit to Kubiak , Dennison and Greg Knapp for a job well done. They devised a gameplan that was just aggressive enough to get the job done while not putting Yates in position to make mistakes.
I believe they called it a fumble because there was no whistle.
And the game stats "credited" Rowdy with a fumble. No INTs are in his stats.
To the DB's credit, he was the only one alert enough to notice that the whistle had not been blown. Even his own teammates had stopped playing. And all of our guys thought the play was over when the ball hit the turf.
Since Garys never been over .500, does this thread jinx him and he once again falls below .500?

I've stopped even trying to get my head around that call.
I've just accepted that it's one of the things in this life that I'm totally incapable of understanding.
The part that really bakes your noodle is that one of the refs actually called it incomplete. They huddled up and got it wrong. Collective stupidity in action.
To call a run play right there, that's telling that OL & RBs (who had worked their asses off to that point), "I need you."
& they answered the bell.
That, I think, is the most uncharacteristic thing about this team that I have seen. Kubiak has asked them to step up again & again over the last two years & this season, they are answering that call time & time again.
Yeah , he's put them in position to win many many times over the prior two seasons and they have failed .... The difference this season is they are getting it done and the W's are piling up as a result.
I know it was a fumble on the stat sheet .... but the ref on the field after the review said "The play stands as called on the field , an interception" .... Calling it an interception overlooks the fact that the ball hit the ground .... That he termed it as such is the only way I can see them not overturning that call as Yates arm was clearly going forward.
They really screwed the pooch on that call. Just glad that it didnt cost the Texans a W.

I think that was a good call. All but one guy on our team bit.
Matt Ryan should have never thrown the ball to begin with. No one was expecting that pass, not even the intended receiver. The only one who saw that was Kareem (or Allen, don't remember which one).
And that one guy was the last guy the majority of fans would have expected to .... make a play.
But hey , he sucked yesterday ...... right ?!

I agree with your sentiment, however, Wade is known for very quick defensive turn arounds. Kubiak screwing around and not hiring good defensive coordinators made hiring Wade a must. We all knew Wade would improve the defense, but we couldn't have predicted by how much. The Texans are the best one year turn around job Wade has ever done. Going from last to first in one year is just crazy.
Well, we all agree on that part.
The refs royally hosed that up all the way around.

I'm not one of those that goes out of my way to criticize officiating, but yesterday was not on of their finest hours.
In all honesty, I closed my eyes when I saw he was the only one out there.And that one guy was the last guy the majority of fans would have expected to .... make a play.
But hey , he sucked yesterday ...... right ?!
Kids been doing well all season, but I think he really needed that to boost his confidence. Hopefully he can stop thinking & start playing.
For all we know, he extending 35 invitations & they all turned him down. Just like the only free agents who wanted to come to Houston were your Keven Walter & Antonio Smith's..... guys with something to prove.
