Tebowmania takes Broncos into First Place

Tebow and the Broncos win again, climbing into first place in the AFC West in the process.

The Broncos are now 6-1 with Tebow as the starting quarterback.

Sooner or later, the doubters are going to learn their lesson.

Tebowmania takes Broncos into first place

Trailing by eight at halftime and two more times thereafter, the Broncos had the Vikings right where they wanted them.

And, as usual, the Tebowmaniacs found a way to win late.

After a 13-play, 59-yard drive gave the Vikings a three-point lead on a Ryan Longwell field goal, the Broncos moved down the field with a seven-play, 52-yard drive, which tied the game at 32, with 1:33 to play.

And on the very next play, Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder threw his second interception of the day, giving the Broncos the ball at the Minnesota 15. Six plays later, Matt Prater nailed his second field goal of the game, and of the quarter, delivering the fifth win in six games.

Tebow completed 10 of 15 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns, which translates to a passer rating of 149.3. He ran the ball only four times, for 13 yards.

The loss overshadowed Ponder setting a franchise rookie record for passing yards, with 381. Percy Harvin caught eight passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns.

With the Raiders being blown out in Miami, the 7-5 Broncos are now in first place, based on tiebreakers. For the wild-card chase, the Broncos also hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Bengals and the Jets, but not the Titans.

Tebow has a LONG way to go. He is having a great season, but he has to do this over multiple seasons before we know how succesful he can be.

Remember Mr. Wunderlic's first year? He was running all over the place passing poorly and the line his fans used was "he just wins." Fast forward a couple of years and suddenly Mr. Wunderlic was not nearly as good as people thought.

Broncos are 6-1 now, let's see how he does after a couple of years.

I like Tebow and I hope he succeeds and does well. I will definitely be rooting for him (unless he faces the Texans). However, I think he will struggle against the elite teams in the NFL. I think Detroit showed some of that, and I would have predicted a blow-out loss for them next week if the Chicago offense wasn't in such disarray. It will still be a tough game for Tebow next week against that Chicago defense.

True. but anyone who thinks the Texans have a QB problem haven't seen something called "Caleb Hanie" playing QB for Da Bears in the last two weeks. And Forte is hurt. The Broncos could win that game with 10 points.

Which is why I made the comment about the Chicago offense being in disarray.

Funny ... no one in this country outside of SE Texas knows the Texans are 9-3 because of the Tebowmania.

By all indications, Tebow has character, humility, and work ethic, three things that give him a good chance to keep improving and shore up his weaknesses over time.

Can you say the same about Vince? I'm honestly asking, as I don't keep up with Vince.

I really like watching Tebow, he's so unpredictable and just finds ways to win. Would love to see the Texans get a first round bye and host the Broncos at home for the playoffs.

Why is nobody talking about Willis McGahee finding the fountain of youth and running for multiple 100 yard games? That has just as much to do with Tebowmania as Tebow does.

It's the Tebow-power raising McGahee from the dead and infusing him with new life. It's the Tebow-power rallying the defense. It's the Tebow power getting the special teams to be more special.

He's a leader. It's what he does. He makes everyone around him better. Including the coaches.

He just wins.

I hate to potentially derail the thread, but I had a thought Sunday while watching his post game interview and wanted to share it.

His first statement went something like, "I just want to thank my lord and savior Jesus Christ..........."

this is where he loses me, it seems to me a misuse of religion to credit Jesus for a win in football. Now I can see praying for no injuries, but the concept that Jesus cares about football is beyond me.

Tebow is thanking God for granting him extraordinary favor and blessing, not only in terms of his God-given talent, but also in terms of the beneficial results, which certainly cannot be attributed solely to Tim Tebow by any means.

And it is only through Jesus Christ, who was God in the flesh, that Tim Tebow has access to God and a personal relationship with God at all. That is why he is thanking Jesus specifically here.

If you reject those beliefs, I am not here to dispute any of this with you. But this is where Tim Tebow is coming from here.

Unless there is more to the quote, I think he is just thanking God, Jesus or whoever, for his abilities, not winnning a specific game, something tons of athletes not named Tebow do. I think this gets confused a lot and leads to a lot of the anti-Tebow sentiment.

:twocents:

I will say that while I think he has a lot to improve on, it is ridiculous how he gets criticized AND praised. That Defense is playing awesome as well us McGahee. But I can't deny the kid is just friggin winning and he should be given his due.

I wonder how bad Merril Hodge beat his kids for Tebow winning another game

Hodge is turning himself into someone I can't even take seriously the way he just vehemently hates Tebow. You can almost see the spittle on his mouth and his hands shaking he is so pissed lol.

Here's a video of the interview GHF was referring to:
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-player-interviews/09000d5d824bf034/Tebow-We-had-to-lay-it-on-the-line

He thanks his teammates in the same sentence, so it does kinda seem like he considers Jesus a teammate or at least a factor in winning the game.

Thanks Dutch, MSR. I looked for it, then something shiny popped up and I got distracted.

It came off that way to me, partly due to the question. And then his response. I just figure with all that is going on in the world, JC probably has better things to put on the top of his list than fueling a 2nd half Broncos win.

Tebow's faith has never bothered me. I just don't pay much attention to it. I don't see why it bothers anyone else and why it has to be such a talking point to criticize him by. He is just trying to be positive when he mentions Jesus Christ and there is no malice involved. Sure, it may be a little silly at times, but I don't see any problems from it.

I'm no Christian, but I think the easy answer is that god will use anything to work in his mysterious ways. So Tebow making a name for himself now will only boost his national and international notoriety and can give him greater influence over the masses thus making his evangelism more successful. So while the outcome of the game isn't the purpose, it is a useful tool for his means.

I think some of you guys are misconstruing Tebow's intent when he makes reference to his religion.

In a recent postgame interview after a victory (I forget which game), I heard him say "I want to thank my lord and savior Jesus Christ whether it would have been a win or a loss, because without him blah blah blah."

From what I've seen in that and other interviews, his religious remarks come across as an expression of humility more than anything else, a way to ground himself when reporters ask him congratulatory, ego-inflating, post-victory questions.

Maybe it's just me, but that's what I get from reading his body language and facial expressions: Reporter asks him a question asking about a spectacular play he made to seal a crucial victory, and he tries to stifle an ecstatic grin. You can see him thinking, "Damn, yeah that play was awesome, wasn't it?!! Damn I'm awesome!" But then, he'll quickly catch himself by thanking his "lord and savior Jesus Christ blah blah blah" and the stifled grin is gone, replaced by an expression of solemn respect.

So no, I don't find it offensive when he does it. The way I see it, he does it to keep himself humble and to keep things in perspective.

So I'm fine with it, doesn't bother me. And this is coming from an atheist.

Half of McGahee's 100 yard games came during the 1W-4L Orton era.

Just saying...

Now that I have successfully trashed the thread, I will try and clarify a bit my thoughts.

The first is that he is still a very young man and he seems like a sincere and earnest person. I have a son his age and I think that is something fans tend to forget, is just how young some of these guys are. He is getting an incredibly intense amount of media attention and seems to be handling it well.

I am even becoming a bit of a fan of his, so don't take my earlier criticism as too harsh. I just also see how he can be a bit of a lightning rod of hate for some people.

Please proceed with the regularly scheduled thread......

Why is nobody talking about Willis McGahee finding the fountain of youth and running for multiple 100 yard games? That has just as much to do with Tebowmania as Tebow does.

In at least 3 of Tebow's victories and maybe more he led his own team in rushing.

So basically I read this as "Tim Tebow is coming from crazy town". Got it.

You're not getting it, that is Tebowmania

:kingkong:

Why are you blaming Tebow for that? Blame ESPN. They even had a Top Ten Tebow plays on Sports Center.

That is exactly what I have never understood about people at how they direct hate in the wrong directions, and they did the same thing with Favre. YOu're now seeing ESPN slop themselves over Tebow relentlessly to where they hardly ever talk about anything else. It's disgusting and pathetic that the biggest sports network in the world or at least in the USA does this. They find an athlete here and there and pump him religiously and forget about the entire sport, and then as a result everyone starts hating the guy they're promoting instead of the network itself. I'm sure that even Tebow is sick and tired of the non stop coverage of himself, but what can he do?? Direct the hate at the network that continually does this instead of the athlete that has nothing to do with it.

I've wanted a new sports network with big time cash to rise and compete with ESPN for years, but I've given up on that ever happening.

I think you just hit on the difference between Tebow and Favre. Favre (and his ego) seemed to invite, even encourage, the media circus surrounding him.

No, that's not what happened at all. Favre had been covered religiously way before he was ever thought of as a diva and way before the retirement issues surfaced. He ended up getting more coverage and yeah, to some degree it seemed like he liked it towards the end, but he always got insane coverage. Tebow is just now getting all of this insane coverage as well so it's all new to him. And ESPN has done this with a lot of other athletes as well where it really pissed people off. When Vick's dog scandal happened, that was the worst ever. They literally shut that entire network down for like a month and it just became "Vick watch." Bonds had some insane coverage as well. ESPN builds up athletes and ultimately breaks them down to where people can't even stand the site of them.

It is like when the wife gets mad at the mistress instead of the husband.

This winning crap is bad, I have been agreeing with Tex too much lately. :kitten:

I gotta' be honest, I don't hate/dislike Tim Tebow, but damn if I'm not completely burned out of hearing the word "Tebow" over and over and over and over and over ad naseum.

I'm starting to root against the Broncos just so the media will STFU about him. He's getting way too much gloss and I just can't take the hype.

I know it's not his fault, but still, the overwhelming blather has just burned me out already.

NFL Network is now floating the idea that Tebow should be in the player of the year talks. :vomit:

Prayer of the year - maybe
Player of the year - not so much

That's how I'm starting to get. It's outragious at this point. ESPN First Take literally transformed their entire show into debating Tim Tebow for 2 hours every morning. Every other show has to debate those same topics over and over with other people. The Texans don't even get mentioned and neither do the 49ers. The only teams that get a little coverage still are the Ravens, Steelers, Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, and the Pats. Tim Tebow's hype has literally ruined the season as far as coverage goes on ESPN. I hate ESPN and have for so long now. I wish another big time sports network could just take over or compete with them, so I'd have another alternative. I watch NFL network a lot to, but I hate most of the guys on there. Any show with Irvin and Deion is hard to watch for over 20 minutes, and then Mooch is just so boring to me on there as well. The only real football coverage I can get is through the internet.

It's a great, great story...

That one man who was roundly dismissed by most every "expert"...

Can, in spite of his often awkward play, inspire his teammates to play at times above their measures...

And together rack up the only important statistic in sports -- wins.

A great story...

That is being over-covered and ruined by media bandwaggoners trying to ride his coattails to personal gain.

There are a lot of good stories in the NFL this year that are being mostly over-looked,

And there is already a building resentment that will unfortunately land at the feet of Tebow, who is just trying to win games.

That's a shame, on all accounts.

/soapbox

Can you even begin to imagine the avalanche of hype if the Broncos make the playoffs??

According to the media, you'd think Tebow is playing both sides of the ball and willing his team to win all by his lonesome. Sometimes you'll hear a small voice mention the defense, but now they are doing that Tebow chant on NFLN that sounds like the dwarfs on Snow White. It's goofy. It's like they no longer have Favre to overhype, so now they have found their replacement in Timmy.

yeah, great story, but it completely loses it's appeal after the 5000th time you've heard it and the amount of credit he's getting is not objective in any sort of way.
