A.J. needs to really step it up.

I know nobody wants to point out the obvious, but we really need Dre to step it up if we are going to do anything with any of the QB choices left to us.
I noticed in the game vs. the Jags that his routes were nothing more then haphazard attempts at mediocrity. Granted the plays called were mostly either an option or a dump or a run most of the time. But watching him half way shuffle off the line will not fool anybody. And we need him to at least cast that thought that we might actually pass the ball.
We have a great running game but it will dwindle quickly if every team out there knows it's a run, run, run, kick set of downs.

ya think that perhaps he had what amounts to 3rd string QB's throwing to him? Kubiak doesn't make Leinart check down pards. I didn't notice any lack of hustle from Andre either. Unless you were in Jacksonville, how did you see his routes? I don't get that TV feed at my house.

AJ, "haphazard attempts at mediocrity" ??? Yeah I don't think so... moving on!

I guess I'd simply counter by saying that Kubiak wasn't really even *trying* to fool anyone on the Jax defense, especially in the second half. He really made no pretense of going downfield, did nothing to make the defense think they were going to ever go stretch the field, and didn't seem to care if the Jags knew it. He was "all in" on his defense holding the lead. The players simply reflected that on offense. AJ (or anyone else) won't "fool the defense" if the defense knows it's going to be a run anyway.

I'll add that Kubiak said he changed how he called the game to protect his only qb. He didn't take any chances and didn't want Yates to take any hits since he was the last qb. awful thread...this will be my last post.

O.....M....G....

You're one of those guys that wants little league coaches to run the score up on 6 yr old baseball game , aren't you...

Are you freaking kidding me? The dude has been off a football field and hasn't been able to run full speed in over a freaking month. He was not in complete football shape, even before he went down. Kubiak said he was gassed and said he left AJ out there too long for being off for so long...

Andre Johnson and mediocrity are two words that should NEVER be put in the same sentence...Pathetic

Kubiak said he changed how he called the game to protect his only qb. He didn't take any chances and didn't want Yates to take any hits since he was the last qb.
Agreed -- hence my point. There is little a WR can do to "keep the defense honest" if it's very clear that the coaches aren't going to call a downfield play. Having said that, with AJ just coming off an injury, why would you have him constantly running full sprints on every snap, risking a re-aggravation of his hammy, when it's still not going to fool the defense into thinking you're going to pass?

Wow... so you're saying AJ was slacking off? That is the last thing he would do. Dre is a baller, and is the last person that you would see mailing it in.

And if he wasn't busting his hump on every play, under the circumstances of the second half, it would not surprise me one bit if the coaching staff told AJ to dial it back a bit. They weren't going to be calling many plays downfield to him and they didn't care if the Jax defense knew it, so why risk re-injuring the hammy by going 100% on every play?

Its not inconceivable to think that he has rust and his legs are not where they are supposed to be.

But I agree with the premise of the thread that he needs to be that leader we need him to be. Step up on the field and on the sidelines as well.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't doubt that. But to say he was dogging it on his own is just kind of hard to believe.

I made the same statement in another thread adding that OD was the backup to the backup backup .... OD actually took snaps from under center after halftime.

AJ dogging it is like Santa Clause taking a nap .... It'll never happen.

I agree that every leader on this team needs to step up and put things into perspective for those who aren't mentally prepared to be entering the playoffs.

I disagree that the word "mediocrity" belongs in any sentence in which Andre Johnson is the subject.

Say what you will, hate the thread, it matters not, but from what could be seen he was not exploding off the line, he was not even running off the line. Jogging would be a more appropriate word.
My point is, with our current situation, we need everybody especially AJ giving 200%. If you can't wrap your min d around that, then you probably don't really understand the game, much less our predicament.

And dumping on my Rep Power does not effect me at all. Like Jack said................."You can't handle the truth!"

Every one of the eleven men who are on the field who are out there on the field at the same together have to step up their game on both sides of the football because the last time I checked football was a team sport.

He was not "exploding off the line"!?

Well of course not this is his 1st game back from a multi-week injury!!!

Show some evidence of what you are claiming because when I watched the game I saw none of what you described.

You'll have to be more specific. Which PASSING plays in particular did you <ahem> witness this??

When we're running the ball, the WRs don't always "explode off the line" but instead look for a DB to occupy/block. So if this "jogging" thing you witnessed was during our running plays - which is pretty much all we did in the second half - then he was doing his job.

You want him to give 200% effort on every play? That is almost like you want him to take the snap, throw the ball to himself, break multiple tackles, and then run it in for a touchdown. All coming off a fairly major hamstring injury.

I think you be posting in the wrong place, let me direct you to a better place to say these things.

I think you are looking for the forum listed above.

Seriously though, what did you expect him to do? I think the main role he played in the game last week was taking on double coverage, which he did almost every play. If I remember correctly, he was quadruple covered on one play where Yates threw the ball perfectly to hit him.

That's the first future hall of famer the Texans will have. Nothing he has.done in the past has deserved.your judgement on him of being lazy, non chalant, mailing in, or taking plays off. Andre is a beast and I am.Damn glad.he is on our side. I'm sure their are 31 other teams.that would love Andre on their team. Even if he doesn't tip!!! :fans:

It's been suggested that he's somewhat mediocre at tipping. :kitten:
