Peek raises his dukes again....

Saw on the news this evening Peek got into another fight with M. Brown. Capers said Peek needs to cease and desist or he'll be playing the first three games of the season free of charge. I like to see aggressive play from linebackers, but it needs to stop when the whistle blows. Hopefully Peek will save some of his aggression for our opponents on passing downs. :)

if this is true, it is really dumb on his part. This is NOT how you impress Capers. True that the occasional outburst happens between even the best of football buddy's on the field. But twice now? And if it happens in a game situation then Peek is going to be ejected. So what is he really showing here, his immaturity or lack of control?

I've read in more than one place that Peek is the most gifted athelete we have amoung all of our LBs - no matter. You can't have someone on the field who repeatedly loses his cool and draws a 15 yard penalty. That's how you lose a close game late in the second half.

As much as everyone around here was shocked about the Texans trading back up into the 1st to get Babin, imagine Peek's surprise--he was looking at being the starting ROLB. Right now he is trying to prove something. I agree fighting is not the way to prove it, but the intensity he is playing with is something they may very well get him the starting job down the road.

Peek Story

sooner or later he will be starting, im sure the texans are wanting to find a way to put wong inside which would make room for peek at ROLB. they probably wont be doing that this year though. the texans keep on stressing they want the best players on the field for the best combinations and i think peek at ROLB and wong on the inside will do that

But I don't think lack of intensity was ever Peek's problem. Lack of disipline that manifested in taking poor angles versus the run and picking up mindless penalties on special teams was Antwan's bane. The guy really stands out on the practice field with his athleticism, but mental errors and Dom Capers just don't mix.

I agree with that and should have included a caveat--if he can get his head in control. Capers has also described him as one of the two most improved players from last season (the other being Faggins) so I wouldn't look for Capers to give up on him easily. Peek would be dumb not to respond to a couple of stern lectures from the coaches.

By the way, since we are treating this as some sort of second offense--anyone know who started the Peek/Brown altercation?--everyone seems to be assuming it was Peek. Brown is another young guy that thought he was going to be a starter.

From the short clip I saw it looked like Peek was the one who took it to a physical level. He grabbed hold of Brown's facemask and held on even with several team mates trying to force them apart. If Peek can learn to control his emotions, and channel his energy towards sacking the QB he could be a top caliber linebacker, IMO. On the other hand, if he can't learn to stay in line on gameday then he isn't worth the trouble.

shame shame, you mean to tell me that a football player was pumped up on the field and decided to get a little physical! theres no need for that in football

he is just getting frustrated for not making the play, he is the kind of player we need on our defense. remember the jacksonville game where moses called for the fair catch and got drilled or when carr got neck tied by stroud, we need some one to make them pay for disrespecting their team mates. but he should save that aggresion for game day not his own team mates.

I saw that clip on the news too along with that catch by either Starling or Albert Johnson. As far as the altercation goes, it didn't seem like much. Both had each others face mask and sort of danced around for a bit. The whole time Peek had his fist rearing back ready to give Weary an uppercut. The only disturbing part was that his teamates and a few coaches were around trying to break up the scuffle before any punches were thrown, but Peek didn't seem to be too concerned with their attempt to break it up and he gave Weary an uppercut. Didn't seem to effect him much, but still it wasn't neccessary. As long as he can keep himself in control more then I don't see him having much of a problem in becoming one of Caper's Crew.

Yeah, the Texans really need a player getting a 15 yard penalty late in the game sticking up for a teammate. The player who gets the 15 yard penalty is often the player who is trying to retaliate. In addition to the penalty, he often gets another prize.......a loss.

Teams that focus on revenge distract themselves from the main objective, which is to win.

The best revenge is to win the game.

Well said BO (jeez that just doesn't look right does it)--the guy retaliating no matter how justified always gets the flag. That said, Peek just needs to curb his enthusiasm to the point to not draw the flag. Emotion is good from 1-3 players on each side of the ball. Peek needs to keep his emotion within the whistles or in the huddle. If he can do that he may develop into a good+ LB and a D leader--if not, he is trade bait.

Agreed...Peek is just an intense individual, plain and simple...plus, you're supposed to practice with the same intensity and emotion that you play with...shame on Peek for finding meaning in not making a play...
