The Houston sports curse......

HTown2ATX

TexansMetalhead
....Where did it originate? And why? How do we get rid of it? Man I wish I had the answers to these questions!

Mods I apologize, was not sure exactly where to post this...assuming it is cool in this section as it has to do with the Texans currently.

First off, I am not saying the season is over. I have enough Kool Aid in me nowadays and I think that the team is built so well right now that as long as frat boy doesn't just implode we should be ok for the rest of the regular season.

But seriously, W-T-F did we as a city and group of sports fans do to deserve this eternal **** storm out of nowhere. Think we're not cursed as a city?

(in no particular order)

- Epic FAIL by the refs on a clear Renfro TD in PITT

- Stros vs Mets debacle

- 05 Stros being swept!!!!

- Miracle Pujols shot to shatter Lidge and go down in MLB lore

- 35-3

- Joe Montana

- UH Coogs last milisecond loss to NC State

- Rosencopter

- Hail Mary last year in JAX

- 05 Rockets vs Mavs series going up 2-0 in Dallas only to lose series in the end

- The entire original #8 (HWNSNBM) era

- Schaub now out for season in what was looking to be a legit possibility of a deep playoff run with homefield

On the bright side the sports Gods were apparently on vacation in 94 and 95 so the Rockets could win and personally I love the Dynamo and take pride in them possibly winning their 3rd Championship since being here. But seriously, I know that I am forgetting so moments in my list above as I am at work and I feel like that list should be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy longer.

(no, I am not solely blaming Houston woes on some imaginary curse, some of this is tongue in cheek, but the list speaks for itself as far as a sports cursed city)

Anything that should have been on the list I didn't have time to post or missed?

:kubepalm:

The Comets won the first four WNBA championships, but then Cynthia Cooper left and the team was never the same. Although I'm not sure a lot of folks paid much attention to the Comets, which don't even exist now.

C'mon now!!!

curse /kərs/

Verb:
to promote the love of mediocrity. "We are cursed!"

Seriously, it's getting old. We aren't "cursed". If we were, we wouldn't have Hakeem.

But you clowns keep using it to make yourselves feel better. No such ****ing thing as a sports curse.

Y'all stay mediocre, I'll be EXPECTING greatness.

GOLF Team 16 NCAA Championships:

1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1962, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1970, 1977, 1982, 1984, 1985

I don't really believe in curses, but I'll play anyway.

If there is a curse, then here's where it started IMO:
- Epic FAIL by the refs on a clear Renfro TD in PITT

The 86 Astros were a victim of a screwjob as well. Everyone knows Reynolds was safe on first.

Houston is so CURSED!

How? When the Oilers lost the playoffs game, 5 mos. later, the city STILL won a major title.

Cursed.

The Oilers went 2-14 the next year, only to see another major title win.

Cursed.

:vincepalm:

Albert Pujols hit a 3 run BOMB to crush hopes of a WS berth, only for Oswalt to say "**** you, St. Louis" 2 nights later.

Cursed.

So our victories, outside of basketball, come from minor league hockey, women's basketball, MLS, and college golf.

Good grief

One of the Comets used to live around the corner from me; Tina Thompson. Never met her, but knew which house was hers.

i think he means in the SB era

we have NEVER been to the Superbowl .....

The texans have Never went to the post season

If this town were truly cursed (acting like curses are real, of course), we never would have seen the birth of the Houston Texans.

So while the city of Houston is not cursed (acting like curses are real, of course), it's actually the Astrodome that is sitting on ancient Indian burial grounds.

The Oilers, prior to moving into the 'dome, won back-to-back AFL championships. They never won anything while the 'dome was their home, and when they move to Nashville, they make it to the Super Bowl. Only problem for them was the Curse of Bud kept glory one yard short.

The Astros seemed cursed for years until they moved out of the 'dome and into a shiny new ballpark. Lo & behold, they go to their first World Series!

And then the Texans, who built their new stadium on the same property! Yikes! :cutthroat:

[/playing along for fun]

p.s. of course I'm kidding for those incapable of comprehending sarcasm.

im telling u its that dome tear that pimple down

and in its place make a building in the shape of the texans logo :koolaid:

You conveniently left out how after Oswalt said F you, the WS went.......back to the drawing board.

Lol...I like your posts though don't get me wrong, I often lol....the anger at everyhthing is very raw to be sure. Also, in my OP I pointed out some of this is in jest, helps to read entire posts. You're far from the only one wanting more than mediocrity and ths curse thing is not something used to console myself like I think you do by using the worn out in your face posts speaking of clowns. I have to commend you though, taking a tongue in cheek thread on something I think a lot of Houston fans think about and taking this stance.

Also, Bill, I account for the Dynamo too, but left it at that.

I guess I need to clarify what I thought was obvious....."Major" sporting championships. Not those deemed "2nd tier" if you will. I don't care about Rice winning cricket matches or some bullshit lol.

Meaning if you believe Houston is cursed, the list is in your favor

Guess this was missed....

Don't know how hard this is?
