Great Read

Thanks!

I've been following the Texans since I first started watching American Football, which was in 2005, but only discovered this board yesterday.

I've been following the Texans since I first started watching American Football, which was in 2005, but only discovered this board yesterday.

I found the board while stationed in Rota Spain. It's a great way to get the latest info on the team as well as link up with other fans to watch the games.

They have only defeated one playoff contender, Pittsburgh, while losing three to the Saints, Raiders, and Ravens, so we don’t know yet if they’ll stack up well against the AFC’s elite in the postseason.

This is the bit of cold water that is keeping all of the blood from rushing to my shorts just yet. There's no doubting that we are a force to be reckoned with and I don't have any doubt that we'll beat Jacksonville after the bye. However, in weeks 13 and 14 we'll have a key chance to prove that we are a legit football team. Beating up on bottom feeders is all well and good, but does not indicate how we we will hold up in the playoffs. That being said, my best guess is that we'll be meeting Baltimore in the AFC Championship. Call me, cautiously optimistic.

You have to look at those losses to the Raiders, Saints, and Ravens on their own. We held the Saints to SEVENTEEN through three, and that was with no Foster or Ward, and Slaton had 4 carries for 8 yards as the second part of our rushing attack. We were up 9 in the 4th, and Drew Brees picked on Kareem Jackson who has seemingly matured since then while our offense sputtered.

We shut McFadden down against Oakland. We shut their whole team down pretty much. Janikowski had four FGs, THREE from 50 yards+. Again, D was doing their job, and we didn't have Andre this game. Schaub also had a really bad game and all his passes were underthrown, overthrown, or picked. If I'm not mistaken, this was the game Jacoby had 11 targets and only caught 1. Could be wrong on that one. Either way. Vickers missed a gimme TD and the game STILL came down to the last second.

And the Ravens? We shut Rice down for three quarters until, for the same reasons as before, our offense didn't click and the D started to get worn down. And we still pretty much kept them out of the end zone. Cundiff had 4 or 5 FGs that game too.

Losing is losing. Until we can finish on both sides of the ball against a playoff caliber team, I will not be 100% convinced. Doing it once against an overrated Pittsburgh squad isn't enough.

That isn't to say that I'm not pumped as hell about being 7-3 and #1 in the AFC, I'm only saying that it's all for naught if we meltdown in the playoffs, first round bye/HFA or otherwise. Like I said, I'm just being mentally/emotionally cautious...especially considering the developing rumors about Schaub being done for the season.

lol, overrated Pittsburgh squad that would be top in the AFC had we not beaten them and own the tiebreaker against?
