No Huddle: Making a statement

While they babbled on about the Jets for too long, it was cool to hear them discuss the Texans and if beating the Titans was a "statement game."

I like what Jim Mora said: "Both good wins [i.e. Jets, Texans], but a statement is only a statement if you back it up next week with another strong performance. What I want to see is a body of work before I say that anybody is making a statement. One game is not a statement. One game is a sentence."

Fast forward to 3:40 if you want to skip all the Jets stuff.

I like the discussion, though. They give the Texans some love, and I think the national media will really jump on the bandwagon if they win the next two games. Much respect for our defense.

6-3 would do a lot for us as a fan base, too. So let's hope the Texans can make a statement by winning this game against the Jaguars (and then Browns)!

Thanks for link Double Barrel. One game is not a statement. One game is a sentence. Well said by Jim Mora. We should win next two games and I am expecting 6-3 record. I will be disappointed if we lose one of these two games.

Go Texans!!!

That being the case the Texans need to make a paragraph to get the monkey off their back, and prove everyone wrong. :texflag:

Imagine what the National talk would be like if we make a respectable AFC Championship game appearance.

The media is going to love us. They'll have no problem getting behind this team. They've been waiting so long for us to do something.
:koolaid:

Just remember they'll just as quickly bash us if we trip up. So take this faint praise with a grain of salt.

I love that line...One game is not a statement, it's a sentence...

That could not ring more true. Go out and put the beat down on JAX, then you have a statement, rattle off 3-4 in a row, now you are a contender...

I disagree: 41 to 7 on the road, against a hated division rival withOUT your best offensive and defensive players IS a statement.

But I do agree that they need several statement games in a row to build a body of work!:kingkong:

So now beating the 2-5 Jags at home is a statement win, just because they beat the Ravens, a terrible road team?

Hell our fans bash the team if they trip ..... why wouldnt the media. :cutthroat:

Im tired of the trippin too .... :pop:

No. There is no statement win. If we string together SEVERAL wins... THAT's the statement.

Exactly.

There should be no possibility of the Jags winning @Reliant. But we know our Texans. Wins vs Jags & Cleveland at home is a statement because it's not what we do. It says we're serious.

Think Monday night against a bad 3-6 Tennessee Titans team (They lost their first 6 in 2009). Think @ home vs a struggling Cowboys team (2010) or getting blown out at home against an equally struggling 2-2 NyGiants team (34-10).

That Giants team lost 38-14 to the Colts, 29-10 to the Titans, & struggled to beat the bears 17-3

Good teams beat bad teams, we should blow out the jagUars, we shouldn't be the catalyst to help them get back into the division race.

A close game against the jagUars, won or lost in the last minutes says we aren't ready & this is not our division.

The Texans need to dominate in the next two games if they want to be considered contenders instead of pretenders.

We all know the franchise history, so I won't detail it. But suffice to say, the tendency to lose games to lesser opponents is not uncommon. This is the trend they have to break free from repeating.

A statement is several games where the Texans show that the AFC South belongs to Houston this year.
