That brings us to 10-6 at the end of the season and a division title. That being said, I could very well see us blowing it in week 17 - dropping to 9-7 and losing the division. In which case, heads would be expected to roll...but probably wouldn't.

I honestly believe we win the next four, a couple of them will be ugly a couple will be the dominating performances we want to see, but we go into the bye @ 7-3
I think we even kick the bye weeks ass, but you won't see it on the W-L

We're probably going to do something silly here like lose @ Jacksonville, or lose @ Indy, but I think we win 4 of these 6 & finish the season 11-5.

Some of our fans are going to be upset because we sit a few of our starters. Some of our fans are going to be upset because we don't sit some of our starters.

The Tennessee game may be one of the two we lose & some of our fans are going to be flam'n mad because we sat some of our starters & winning this "meaningless" game wasn't the organizations primary concern.

I'm going with 6 and 4 to finish the season 9 and 7. This would give us our first division title and a first round bye. I started thinking, wow you know if that happens then maybe Kubiak does deserve another chance.

Then I started looking closer.

All games opponents record right now is 22 and 34
Division games opponents record right now is 4 and 13
Home games opponents record right now is 10 and 18
Away games opponents record right now is 12 and 17

Has a coach ever been given an easier life line than this?

I had to re-read your estimate dutchrudder, at first I was sorta pissed that you have us losing to a weak Falcons and mediocre Bengals team but then I took off my fan blinders and realized that you are unfortunately pretty close to the truth. I do think that we will win this weekend though, just add in a loss to the worst team on the schedule somewhere to keep the 9-7.

Those three games, Atlanta/Cincy/Carolina are tough. I think the Texans go 1-2 in that stretch, but I don't know which one will be the win. Carolina looks like the easiest of that bunch, but Cam has been impressive. Atlanta will have Dunta returning to Reliant for the first time, which ought to make it more interesting, but their offense is pretty good. I dunno if our D can stop them consistently. Cincy just seems like a tough team this year, despite all their recent woes. So I'm picking Dunta to beat his old team, but not J Jo to beat his old team... I dunno, I just don't trust this team to win those games.

The only way we get a first round bye with a 9-7 record, someone else would have to win their division with an 8-8 record. San Diego.. Oakland... KC... it could happen, but I doubt it.

This is truly an easy schedule, nothing at all like the schedule we finished 9-7.

This one is Kubiak proof.

Teams are still defining themselves...but I'll whip out my crystal ball in any case.

at Tennessee Titans - win Texans front 7 tells the Titans that this division is ours. Hasslebeck gets hit...more than once.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - Win Jags at home? Pencil it in

CLEVELAND BROWNS - Win Sunshine pumpers get indignant, doomsday patrol still circling the wagons pointing at the quality of opponents

at Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Loss just had to be before the bye week....

BYE WEEK - 6-4 two games over .500 and Bob McNair is thinking about erecting a giant Kubiak statue on the corner of Kirby and Murworth.

at Jacksonville Jaguars - Loss Something wacky always happens in Jville. Kubiak: "We need to learn to finish"

ATLANTA FALCONS - Loss Secondary picked apart as the Falcon passing attack finally comes around. It didn't hurt that it was Houston's secondary.

at Cincinnati Bengals - Loss Bob McNair: "I believe in Gary and there is a lot of football ahead of us".

CAROLINA PANTHERS - Win Texans win in a wild shootout.

at Indianapolis Colts - Win Suck for Luck in high gear.

TENNESSEE TITANS - Win Texans take care of business and beat the Titans with everything on the line.

First round playoff game: Loss Smoked like a well done brisket. Gary hailed as a hero.

This I doubt. 9-7 and a first round loss in the playoffs, especially if it's a blowout, isn't going to sit well. Even Uncle Bob has a limit on the amount of mediocrity he can stomach.

You underestimate Unca Bob then. You ain't gonna believe the giant grin on McNair's face and the big extended contract with a giant participation ribbon attached to it. You may throw up a little in your mouth when this all goes down, but at least you will be at your keyboard, not mine.

at Tennessee Titans

Win. We will show up this week and hold Tennessee to mostly field goals, while Owen Daniels eats up that Titans pass protection.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Win. Jacksonville is terrible this year. They are going to be a down team during the week of this game. Del Rio will already know by this point that he will not be head coach next year.

CLEVELAND BROWNS

Win. A three game win streak will have fans and media excited about the Texans, despite it being against one mediocre team and two bad teams.

at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Loss. Tampa will shut down our offense in crucial situations and ends up pulling away in the fourth quarter with a strong rushing performance.

BYE WEEK

at Jacksonville Jaguars

Win. Jacksonville will be a mess for this game after our BYE. Andre will have monster numbers.

ATLANTA FALCONS

Loss. We will get our ass absolutely handed to us by the Falcons this week. We make Matt Ryan look like Tom Brady.

at Cincinnati Bengals

Loss. Our offense will struggle to move the ball consistently and we will lose a game that we should probably win.

CAROLINA PANTHERS

Win. This will be a close game but our running game will prove to be the difference.

at Indianapolis Colts

Win. This will be the week in which the fate of Andrew Luck will be sealed. It'll be a close game, but again our rushing attack will be the difference. This prime time game will be dominated by talk of Andrew Luck potentially becoming a Colt.

TENNESSEE TITANS

Loss. Titans will come out full force, playing their Super Bowl. Texans will fail to execute down the stretch in the fourth quarter, once again.

We will go 9-7 and make the playoffs as the #4 seeded division winner. We will play the Bills in a wild-card game decided by our mistakes. Turnovers and penalties will keep us from competing in the end.

The Colts will draft Andrew Luck #1, allowing him to sit behind Peyton until his time comes.

First playoff berth ever, yay!

My prediction:

at Tennessee Titans - W .... JoJo gets a pick 6 and Ben Tate + Arian combine for at least 125+yd

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - W ... If we lose to jax at home, expect hell.

CLEVELAND BROWNS - W ... A tougher W than most think, even at home the browns will make this a 1 possession game.

at Tampa Bay Buccaneers - L ... Freeman guts us and throws for over 250+ with a rushing TD

BYE WEEK ... Record 6-3

at Jacksonville Jaguars - W ... It's a road game, but the texans clutch it after a bye week.

ATLANTA FALCONS - L ... With Kjax or Allen Julio jones will get his breakout game of the year.

at Cincinnati Bengals - L ... If it was at our place maybe it would be different. But the Bengals are better than most think and Dalton will be in good form.

CAROLINA PANTHERS - L ... See Tampa bay. But add 2+ rushing TDs. Newton is the real deal.

at Indianapolis Colts - W ... The texans take out all of their frustration on the colts and we destroy them.

TENNESSEE TITANS - W ... We clutch it against the titans again but in nail-biting fashion.

This puts our overall record at 9-7 with a possible division title. The playoffs will be unpredictable and that is the only thing you can count on with the texans.

Perhaps I am engaging in a bit of wishful thinking, but I think the fan base (meaning the passive, "I got tickets from work!" crowd) will let out a gargantuan "Meh" that will shake the retractable rafters of Reliant enough to where he can't ignore. If there is one thing Bottom Line Bob knows it's business, and in business there is only so much time one is given by the masses to sustain a crappy product (take Blackberry as a non-football example). As I said, this may be wishful thinking, but sense would dictate that it's either a playoff win or cold night in Houston for Gary. Not that there is an abundance of sense at the Texans FO, but still.

to commemorate the Texans going 8-8 for the first time "in Texans History?"

In Bob's world nothing helps cash flow like a good tease. The Texans tease very
well every year, but in the end, you go home disappointed. Why would Bob
want a coach who will either succeed or fail, when "staying the course guarantees
people will at least watch the regular season?

I think your right. I throw around too much sarcasm for my own good at times. When it comes to the Texans we have a blue pill/red pill thing going on. A possible tear in the space-time continuum. An alternate universe if you will. Bob and his minions live in one corporate utopia, while a subset of fans are shrouded in mystery and conspiracy theories. The whole thing is starting to come together like an Asimov novel. Spacers vs the Earthlings. Who's pov is right? Ok, so I'm having some kind of a sci-fi moment, tmi.

at Tennessee Titans - W: a must win.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - W: Jags aren't a good team.

at Tampa Bay Buccaneers - L: Solid D and good QB gives us trouble.

BYE WEEK

at Jacksonville Jaguars - W: Gotta win here.

ATLANTA FALCONS - L: Strong running game pounds us into the ground.

at Cincinnati Bengals - L: Andy D, Grisham AJ Green, Cedric and a tough D is too much for Htown.

CAROLINA PANTHERS - L: Newton to Steve Smith, Olson/Shockey, and don't forget Deangelo and J Stew. A rough offense to stop.

at Indianapolis Colts - W: If we can't beat Indy at this point, we don't deserve the playoffs.

TENNESSEE TITANS - W: I suspect this game might be a must win.

Final Record: 9-7

wow, didn't realize the rest of the schedule was so easy. texans could seriously win out with this. they won't, of course, but barring injury they will likely be favored in every one of these games except (maybe) at tampa, which still should be within a field goal.

if this team does not make the playoffs, kubiak needs to be sent out of town on one of those giant medieval catapults

We're not favored to beat Tennessee now. They're playing good football, we're not. We may not be favored when they come to Reliant Jan 1.

Cincinnati, also playing good ball.

Atlanta & Tampa..... too early to tell.

That's 4 games on our schedule, plus the Colts are bound to win one, why not vs Houston?

We lose those 5 & we're 8-8.

:koolaid:

I'm not in the business of predicting games, but I'd be utterly shocked if we didn't end up 10-6 (or better) provided Andre comes back in Week 8. Week 9 LATEST.

i know most ppl are down on the team right now but honestly if we get aj back soon & barring key injuries to guys where we dont have depth i.e. schaub, aj, OT's, cody, olb's, j-joe, i see us losing maybe 1 or 2 games the rest of the way

I see an 8-8 or 9-7 record in our future. However, as we all should know by now, predicting anything about this team is like trying to predict the weather. Good freaking luck with that.

Over the years, many games look like easy or probable wins for the Texans (to their own fans) before they are played. It's only after "surprise" losses that reality sets in and the fans talk about how tough the other teams are. I wouldn't pencil in a bunch of Ws just yet. It wasn't that many weeks ago that people were posting about the Texans' "ownership" of the Raiders...

=======

You also have to factor in the referee conspiracy, bad weather, and maybe a bad pre-game meal or middle of the night hotel fire alarm as other obstacles the team faces. :)

Honestly, there's not a game left that the Texans should lose IMO. There are a few trap games(Natti', Carolina, @ Jags). Why is everyone picking us to lose at Tampa? This is the same team that lost 48-3 a couple weeks ago. Granted, they were impressive against the saints, but our D should be up to task.

The real question mark is the game this weekend. If the Texans beat the Titans on the road, they will likely go 8-2 to finish 11-5. If they lose to the Titans, then 7-3 to finish 10-6.

There is not a team on the remaining schedule that is clearly better than the Texans if the game were played on a neutral field. The Texans will be underdogs for the away games against Tampa and Cincinnati, as they currently are against Tennessee ((-3) - which is the margin typically given to a home team).

The hardest game left on the schedule is very possibly the game this weekend in Tennessee. If the Texans win that one, it could be a fun ride the rest of the way. At least for those of us here who are not rooting for the Texans to lose.

Well yeah, there's that.

But we've got something to negate that "realism"

:koolaid:

Why is everyone picking us to lose at Tampa?

Think about it... none of want to concede a win to any of the AFC teams ahead of them & it's not very probable that the Texans go on a 4 game win streak.

Not this team.

If the Texans are to "control their own destiny" Sunday is a must win. The Titans schedule is almost as easy as ours, they're playing good football & most likely end up with ten wins.

Had it not been for the Oakland debacle, we'd be sitting pretty, even with a loss @Tennessee.. but now, we need to win-out more or less, or sweep our division, Colts, Jags, & Titans.

Rather than study each opponent in detail, I would take a different, holistic approach:

1. Pencil in all games as Ws.

2. Switch all road games vs average or better teams to Ls.

3. Pick a random home game and switch it to an L. It's what they do.

4. I'd almost switch the game following the bye to an L, because with two weeks to prepare Kubiak will likely outsmart himself. However, that's needless Kubiak bashing so leave it as it is.

Where does that leave them?

Cincy is not very good despite their cupcake schedule-aided record so far-- can't imagine they'd be favored by the time that game comes around. Tampa may not be either. With a healthy Andre Johnson, Texans SHOULD win out. Again, we all know they won't, and the losses will probably happen in spectacularly horrible fashion. The point is that Kubiak has zero excuses from here on out, no matter who's injured.

9-7, possibly winning the division, depending on the Titans record.

I see it the same except the last 3 games are all toss ups and very losable. I see the Texans going 8-8 because of losing one of those last 3 games. Even if they make the playoffs Kubiak should be fired. 8-8 is rediculous after 6 years. But I'm sure if the Texans managed to get in the playoffs at 8-8 because of a weak division that it would be celebrated like they won a superbowl even though nothing was really accomplished.

12-4 or 11-5 at the worse. AJ comes back strong Matt starts to heal AFTER the Titans game and JJ shows consistency. Foster and Tate start chewing yardage and OD goes to Pro bowl. Reed becomes a steady player and Cushing is Beastman!

12-4 likely earns the Texans a first round bye in the playoffs. Can you imagine that? That would be very exciting.

Given the way this team has performed, here's what it looks like to me now.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - W (Rookie QB gets killed)

CLEVELAND BROWNS - W (Hey, it's Cleveland)

at Tampa Bay Buccaneers - L (Looking strong)

BYE WEEK

9-7 - We still win division, but lowest AFC seed in playoffs.

I'd hate for this team to have a week off going into the play-offs. If they get hot, I'd much rather they ride that streak in back to back games.

Imagine our first trip to the play-offs, we get the first week bye & lose.

1 & done in the Wild-Card round says one thing about your team. 1 & done after a first week bye, & you're in Limbo all summer trying to figure out what you've really got.

& with what the way we feel about our coaching staff right now... we're going to have one heck of an off-season.

You have one hell of an imagination. At this point im not sure anything less than 12 and 4 should warrant kubiak another year. There would have to be some serious ass kicking going on with a solid showing against a real super owl contender.

I mean 12 and 4 by just eaking out games with his schedule and getting blown out in the playoffs doesn't prove this regime is "on the right track" IMO. I've throw up this :koolaid: one time to many to start drinking it again without serious justification.

Well, I will be happy with the achievement off all three of the following:

1) A winning record,
2) A division championship and
3) A playoff appearance.

Alternatively, I will be disappointed if those three benchmarks are not achieved.

As long as these three goals are achieved, anything over and above that is gravy, including a better record than 10-6 or an actual playoff victory. I am not one of these people who always has to have the threshold of satisfactory performance just out of reach, like some people apparently do.

So if we go 9 and 7 and win the division, back into the playoffs and get smoked in the first round, you're ok with that? If so you have been 100% desensitized!!!!

Well, I will be somewhat disappointed if the Texans only win 9 games this year, but 10 games will certainly meet expectations. And I posted earlier that I do expect them to win at least 10 games.

In any case, I am more of a glass half full type person, which you apparently are not. If the Texans win their division and appear in the playoffs for the first time, that will be an excellent accomplishment that should not be overlooked or taken for granted, especially after the dismal 6-10 record last year and the introduction of an entirely new defensive scheme and defensive coordinator this season.

There is no point upsetting yourself about how this team might disappoint you in the weeks to come. It almost comes across like you want that to happen to a certain degree just so you can be right about it.

Instead, why not root for this team to do well and celebrate if they do? We are supposed to be "fans" after all. Aren't we?

I used to be a half full guy to but have lost all confidence in this staff to turn this into a consistent playoff team. And no I can't Use last years record as a measuring stick to judge this years success. That would be lime giving Kubiak credit for sucking last year. There was no excuse for last year. And having a new defense isn't an excuse either. Kubiak hired that pos bush.

And no I don't want them to loose so I'll be right. I want them to win against winning teams consistenly an play at a level you would expect a team that has had the same head coach for six years to play with. I don't want to go into every game with the feeling "how are we going to **** this up".

I want a team that finds ways to win, no loose. I want a team I an be passionate about, not a team that has me sitting in my chair zoned out wondering if we are going to win even though we are winning in the fourth quarter.
