I've lost interest in the Texans, what are we playing for now?

I have to admit my interest level is at an all time low. The season is tanked at this point. I know we will win a couple of games, and this Sunday might be one of our few wins. The season is still over. I don't know if any team has gone from 0-3 to even a wildcard spot, but I can't imagine it happening in our division. The problems is that I don't even know what we are playing for at this point. We certainly aren't developing our quarterback, and there is a good chance Capers is gone at the end of this season. If Capers is gone, then there will be a new offensive scheme and a turn over of players, which means everything the team practices this year doesn't translate into next. Maybe we can be the spoiler.

From here on out:

Oct 9 Tennessee Win
Oct 16 at Seattle Loss
Oct 23 Indianapolis Loss
Oct 30 Cleveland Win
Nov 6 at Jacksonville Loss
Nov 13 at Indianapolis Loss
Nov 20 Kansas City Win
Nov 27 St. Louis Loss
Dec 4 at Baltimore Loss (Carr is sacked 10 times)
Dec 11 at Tennessee Loss
Dec 18 Arizona Win
Dec 24 Jacksonville Loss
Jan 1 at San Francisco Win

I see anywhere from as bad as 4-12 to as "good" as 7-9

I should have seen that coming. I suppose I do have some interest that is why I'm here. Maybe I'm looking for something to keep me interested.

Look at the fact that our rookies will be gettin experience and we can look at the point of whos worth keeping for next season and whos not.

Drama is always interesting. And if we finish as bad as it looks right now, there will be plenty in Houston for a while!

no problem...we are all kind of funky right now.
:bomb:

Also I see a possibility of something like this if we get our stuff together

Oct 9 Tennessee Win
Oct 16 at Seattle Win
Oct 23 Indianapolis Loss
Oct 30 Cleveland Win
Nov 6 at Jacksonville Win
Nov 13 at Indianapolis Loss
Nov 20 Kansas City Win
Nov 27 St. Louis Win
Dec 4 at Baltimore Loss (Carr is sacked 10 times)
Dec 11 at Tennessee Win
Dec 18 Arizona Win
Dec 24 Jacksonville Win
Jan 1 at San Francisco Win

Any of those games I picked we have as much as a chance winning as the other team.

Also you knew we werent going to the Super Bowl this year so why'd u even start with interest? I think I know why but i'd like to hear it from you

Okay here is my take.

Tenn W
@ Seattle W (I don't know why but this team reminds me of the Oilers-Good team that loses the ones they should win and can't win the big games).
Indy L
Cle W
@Jville L
KC W because for some reason we just win to get everyone excited.
STL L PBuch literally gets 3rd degree burns.
Baltimore W because they can't move the ball
@Tenn W because we just have a step on them
Ariz W they are the Cardinals.
Jville Battle Red day Rules
San Fran W because they just prove they are sorrier.

Wow Texas you sure are a positive thinker. Seattle at home is a totally different team than on the road. I don't see that one. Jacksonville has improved more than we have and there is no way we beat them twice this year. Kansas City could possibly blow us out on Sunday Night. Arizona is a much better team than they have been and their Coach is much better than ours. St. Louis....you never know. I think the original post is much closer than we may think. Hell, we may not even win that many from what I have seen. I will still be there for every game, but I am just seeing clearly. Our defense is nowhere near what it was last year and they really better get it together. I won't even get into the offense.

Oct 9 Tennessee Tie (we both suck at this point)
Oct 16 at Seattle Win (we've never lost a sun night game on the road)
Oct 23 Indianapolis Loss (OT) (Carr hurt, Banks comes in to keep it close)
Oct 30 Cleveland Tie (cleveland does not rock)
Nov 6 at Jacksonville Loss (Banks breaks his hand, Ragone comes in and stinks)
Nov 13 at Indianapolis Win (Carr comes back to shock the world)
Nov 20 Kansas City Tie (Brown misses a late FG in OT)
Nov 27 St. Louis Win (Carr throws for 400 yards and 4 tds)
Dec 4 at Baltimore Loss (Carr throws for 50 yards and 4 ints)
Dec 11 at Tennessee Win (Bud Adams is our *****)
Dec 18 Arizona Loss (PBuc gets burned on the last play)
Dec 24 Jacksonville Win (Jax can't beat us in red)
Jan 1 at San Francisco Tie (We just can't win the last game of the year)

Final record: 5-7-4

A true fan would not lose intrest in their team regardless. Go away and never come back, because we don't need sorry losers like you.

I think we might beat Indy once this season. It just seems the defense we've been running is schemed just to stop them, i.e. we're good against the run and we throw a lot of guys into coverage.

Yea, just like Steve Foley wasn't worth keeping. Ten sacks later, who's to blame? I don't care what this team scraps together as far as record. I want them to do well, but I don't want that to be credited to the coaching staff unless the team really shows us something we haven't seen. If it takes a poor record for Capers and Fangio to be gone, so be it.

I guess I didn't expect us to have such a rough start. I thought that worse case we would be 1-2 not 0-3. I didn't expect us to go to the Superbowl, but I did think we would have an exciting season and fall just short of the playoffs. I thought we would see good improvements across the board, and we haven't. The first two games were just painful but the Cincinnati game was much better. I hope we win every game from here on out and Capers is back next year because the team is doing so well.

Meh, maybe I'm just cranky today, but if we lose this Sunday I will be more sad than upset. I really want this team to do well!

Go Texans!

I have to say that right now you look crazy predicting a win against Kansas City. They're going to destroy us. What's worse is I have this sick, sneaking suspicion that the 49ers are going to mug is into the off-season as well. I was looking forward to watching the Texans make someone elses young QB pay his dues but now I think ours will be the one hurting at the end of the day.

Call me crazy and put me in a padded room, but I'm still hoping for an 8-8 season (much to the chagrin of Herv, as this would probably extend Coach Capers' regime for another year).

C'mon guys, we've got football in H-town!! That, in itself, is reason to go the games and have fun tailgating.

Losing hope for a season is one thing, but losing interest in Houston football is an entirely different matter. We should never forget those barren years that we had no football, especially those years when we didn't even know when we'd get a team.

Besides, if we really suck, we probably get a new coaching staff (a new start and reason for optimism) and a high draft pick.

This is nothing. The Oilers had a stretch from '82-'86 where they were 12-52 and I never lost interest. Sometimes I brought the Sunday paper with me to the games but I never lost interest

:texflag:

I have not lost interest at all in Houston football. Heck, even THIS flaming pile of dung beats no team. But, I have lost interest in rooting for this regime. I am sorry, but once my mind is made up to this extent, there is no turning back. Nothing short of the most incredible turnaround in the history of football will assauge me at this point. I won't be satisfied until this entire clueless regime is gone. Going 7-9 or 8-8 and seeing Capers and Cass skate by another year is akin to putting a bandaid on a man just shot in the head, and sending him home with an aspirin. We don't need bandaids. We need to get this patient a whole new head. That would just allow one more year to allow this regime to slide by. Nope - for the long term health of this team we need to lose 10 or more. And, at the rate we are going, that shouldn't be a problem. :texflag:

I look at it this way... If we win Im happy cause we won. If we lose Im not happy but Im also not extremly mad cause it gets us 1 loss closer to the top picks in the draft. I would give anything to see us turn it around and go 13-3 but I dont see that happening. I either want to see us turn it around and win 8-9 games or just tank the season at 3-13 or 4-12 and get the #1 pick of the draft.

:texflag:

That's why practically nobody outside of Beltway 8 was ever an Oilers fan and why the Cowboys dominate Texas. Looks like it's gonna be a while before the Texans really confront that problem.

You mean the Cowboys bandwagon jumpers from the Houston area who didn't want to root for their home team just because they were perennial losers? Yeah, we know about them.

There was actually an earlier era ('70-'73) when the fan alignment took root - that's when Tom Landy was taking the Cowboys to conference championships and Super Bowls every year while the Houston team struggled to win 10 games over that period.

I remember that stretch all to well. It was during that time that Cleveland won the division with an 8-8 record. If I remember correctly, we had a Biles movement during that time span.

I was a Oiler fan in that era, they when 1-13 back to back oh the joy of being a oiler fan in the early 70's it still brings a tear to my eye :crying:,Then Earl came :yahoo: and it was time to  LUV YA BLUE, Maybe someday that will come for the Texans.

Another great post. Pork, along with that Colts fan who plages this board let me hold the door for you guys. Heck I 'll throw in gas money to see ya go... :texflag:

Let me get this straight. Because I think the best way to get this team headed in the right direction toward a Super Bowl is to can the current regime, then I cannot be a Texans fan? I sure hope you are not a member of the Texans marketing dept.

I was a Cowboys fan for many years. I was an Oilers fan for many years. The two were mutually exclusive, IMO. The Oilers played in the AFC and were my #1 team, and the Cowboys played in the NFC. Whenever the two met, I pulled for the Oilers, but if the Oilers didn't make it, I always pulled for the Cowboys after. I stopped following the Cowboys completely once the entire team was doped up every Sunday, so I haven't been a fan for at least 10 years, but I wish them no ill except for when they play the Texans. I am very much the same way with college teams. I want Texas to win the national championship this year, but I also want all Texas teams to beat anyone outside of Texas. These Aggie fans that want Texas to lose to OU make me sick. Pull for the Aggies, by all means. But don't root for the Sooners to beat Texas just because you're bitter. Texas sports > all. I will never root for an out-of-state team to beat any Texas team.

I totally agree with this statement!! Wonder where you will be WHEN the Texans rally and have a good season!!?? You still gonna LOSE INTEREST if they make the playoffs?? I detest bandwagoners!!!!!!!!!!!

i will watch the rest of the games this year because I'm a Texans fan, although I'm not going out on on limb and predicting any wins. If they do luck out and get a win, it will be against someone we didn't expect. I just don't see light at the end of the tunnel as far as getting more pressure on the QB, and protecting our QB. The talent is just not there.

On second thought though, I think I will pass on the Indy games. I just pictured Victor Riley vs. Dwight Freeney, and it made me sick to my stomach.

THE REST OF THIS YEAR IS ABOUT WHO WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR AND WHO WILL NOT.

It is like training camp all over to find out who can make the team next year.

This may sound strange, but I found it far easier to be a fan of the Oilers from '82 to '84 when they were horrible, than when they imploded in the playoffs in '91-'93. Those loses to Buffalo, Denver, and Kansas City still haunt me to this day. That said, I would still be an Oiler's fan to this day if they were still here. There really is nothing worse than a bandwagon fan.

I detest bandwagoners as well, at least see who will make the team next year, and support our team, we are very lucky to have one again, even though the losses get tougher every week, please support our team people no matter if they are 0-16. I can not stand watching all the astros fans come out of the woodwork after they were not there all year long ecspecially in the beginning when they lost almost every game.

Wow. Lost interest? The Buccaneers, Bengals and Steelers are doing good right now if you wanna check them out. The Giants too...
Why would you say something like that? Even if we made playoffs or won the Super Bowl you have to go back to not making it again for a few years...well maybe many years but that's how it goes. What do people do every year? Watch games and like their team. Whether 8-8 or 16-0. You think it would feel better to be a Steelers fan and maintain interest because of a 15-1 and still not make the Super Bowl? It's rough, but not loose interest rough. Now I'm wondering how many Tampa, Pitt, and New England fans lost interest and went back. Geez.
Hang in there man, you'll be alright

Just listen to your corner and watch for the hook...

Looks like you are not the only one. I have 3 extra tickets and couldn't even sell them on Ebay at face.

As much as I hate to admit it, Houston in general appears to be a "bandwagon" city.

Lose patient ? Oh yea ! Get frustrated ? Oh Yea ! Get mad ? Absolutely !
But lose interest ? No way ! Never a dull moment with the Texans. Besides,
when they finally get this train back on the tracks, its gonna be oh so nice
to know you've been here for the whole trip. Might be a long trip, but we'll
get there !

:texflag: Football is a year around hobby , if you like reading about the draft or mini camps or when camp starts . The season is the test of how your teams doing .

I didn't originate the post by the way. Just wanted to make that clear. I was responding to the original thread post. :D

I bet if you gave them away you could easily find takers. ;)

Maybe you're selling them too high? Maybe sports fans are more interested in supporting the Astros post-season game instead of a 0-3 Texans team? idonno:

I don't think Houston is so much "bandwagon" as it is a "fairweather fan" kind of city.

There are still us hardcore fans out here, though! :texflag:

You can be the judge if face value is too high, the Texans set the price there. My tix HAVE gone up the last 2 years.

I own 4 season tix so that I can have the option to bring friends. Normally when I have no one to come down there with me from Austin, I sell my extras on Ebay. The last few seasons I have had no problem getting back what I paid, but this year has been a different story which tells me something. If this keeps up, I will probably not renew 2 of them next year because having the option to bring 2 extra friends isn't worth losing a LOT of money.

To me, fairweather and bandwagon is the same thing. When things are good (winning), they jump on the bandwagon. Maybe fairweather describes more of what I meant.

I know Houston has many die hards, I consider myself one and probably just about everyone that even visits these boards. However, we may be in the minority.
