Who sold more tickets to Steelers fans?

Our group had a discussion about the amount of Steelers fans at Reliant on Sunday. Based on what everyone usually sees in and around their own seats, where did most of the tickets for Steelers fans come from? Was it Texans fans selling out, or do ticket brokers own that many seats?

All of the above. Even Granato said one of his friends sold his $120.00 seats for $350.00 each.

Kind of hard to criticize someone that just turned a $460.00 profit! That said, I would never even be tempted.

I agree. We looked into buying a couple extra tix for customers, and it seemed like they were going for 3x or even 4x face value. It reminds me of (ah the good times) the World Series back in '05. We got our hands on 2 tickets, and realized we could sell them for like $1k each. My wife and I thought about it for a split second, then realized we may never have another chance to go to a World Series game again. Ever. Obviously we didn't sell out.

I know both were contributing factors; I'm curious on everyone's opinion of where most came from. Were season ticket holders conspicuously absent around you? Or are the seats where you saw Steelers fans usually a revolving door anyway?
 
Gary Kubiak, Rick Smith, Bob McNair, & the Houston Texans are to blame (in no particular order).


If they would make home sacred, & refuse to lose at home, People would come to watch them kick ass.

Too many times we go against a team like the Steelers & lose it in the second half.

I bathe in Koolaide, got an IV hooked when I'm sleeping. I love this team.

But I had my fingers crossed the entire second half.
 
I'm going with ticket brokers. All the usual Texans fans around us that are normally present were there, so if my section was a microcosm of the rest of the stadium I'd say most Texans fans with season tickets showed up.
 
Uh, the Steelers have one of if not the biggest fan base in the entire country. Why is it such a shock to see so many of their fans in the stadium? Who cares is the better question, I guess.
 
I was lucky enough to attend the game yesterday... I was appalled at the number of Steeler fans... of course, it made harassing them that much more fun... including my Steeler wife... (who I made wear a Texans jersey, because you ain't dissing my house!) :)
 
The fact that Houston is a major metropolitan area with lots of relatively recent growth also plays a role. It has a large population of transplants from other parts of the country, and they bring their previous loyalties with them. Cities like Green Bay and Detroit are either too small to draw a lot of newcomers or not exactly on an upward growth trend, so there probably aren't a lot of fans from other teams there.

Me, I guess. That's why I posed the question and posted the poll. I know ultimately "it doesn't matter" since we won, we're all Texans fans regardless, etc. It's known that they have a large fan base, and have been very successful. So their presence was bound to be felt.

Like I said, we had discussion after the game at our tailgate about why so much damn yellow in the stadium. I was merely seeking opinions of those who observed the same and wondered the same.
 
The Steelers game was the biggest chance to make money off of your tickets. I had a deal with a guy on Saturday (He was a Texans fan) to sell my 2 tickets in 608 ($60 face) and my yellow lot pass for $400 total. That would've been one third of what we paid for our season tickets just like that. That's why there were so many steelers fans there. Money.

But the Texans won, and it was definitely an experience. Oh, and I ended up going instead of selling them. I had 3 people that were Pittsburgh fans call me from out of state.

The Steelers are always represented well when we play them. I would say more so than any other team even more than Dallas.
 
Blame the Steelers. It's their success after all that brings Steeler fans out of the woodwork wherever they go. When the Texans rip off 8 trips to the Super Bowl and win 6 of them then people will be bitching about how Texans fans are everywhere.

Until then we just have to deal with it.
 
Another thing that hasn't been brought up is I spoke with more than a couple people in the beer line that are Steelers fans first, but happen to live in Houston and have season tickets to the games.
 
The season ticket holders behind us have another set of seats. They sold them for half the price of the full season. Hard to fault doing that.
 
I had to go play Army and sold my two tickets to a lady at work.

Didn't know she was a Stealers fan untill today.

Exactly! I looked over to my left and about 5 feet from me I see my old neighbors in full steelers gear. When they saw me I just shook my head and told them thats ducked up! I didnt even know these people where football fans!!!
 
The Steeler fans around me were all guests of season tickets holders for the most part. Except for the ones right next to me. My buddy was going out of town and got an offer for $300 each for his seats. Can't fault him for selling the tickets and the guys were pretty cool and didn't talk any crap.

The funniest was the guy two rows ahead of me. The Steeler fan be brought was his daughter's middle school principal and this guy crazy wearing a leather helmet and yelling and talking smack when Pitt made their run. We told him we were going to post photos and videos on Facebook and YouTube for his students to enjoy.:boogie:
 
Why would you blame ticket brokers? Are they supposed to make sure they only sell to Texans fans? I don't think anyone cares about that all that much. If I could get $50 more by selling it to Steelers fans, I would take it and thank them for the money.
 
I sold mine, don't know if it was to Texan or Steeler fans but I buy season tickets every year and take the risk of losing money based on the hope that one day I'll have the option to buy and attend a home playoff game. I also live out of state, so it's not really economically feasible for me to attend every home game anyway. Don't give me no "your not a true fan" crap either, just ask my wife who doesn't even remotely understand my love of football and the Texans if I live and die with my team every game day. He'll, I have to spend even more money than most "fans" in Houston because believe it or not, the Texans don't come on local tv round here, I gotta get the ticket. So, if I have a chance to recoup some money for myself and my family, your damn right I'm gonna do it.

I bet you were cursing that decision about the World Series, I'm not really into baseball, but watched that series as a Houston team was involved, they got absolutely ruined didn't they. Can't believe thats 6 years ago btw.
 
I can't believe you can safely have opposition fans mixed in with the home fans. In our football the fans are kept segregated and of you were to go in the home end at an away match you'd be lucky not to get jumped!

I had tickets and that same oppurtunity and I don't regret my decision one second not to sell. They'll only be a first time once and I was there, plus it was the longest world series game in history. We lost, ya that sucked but I'll have that memory the rest of my life.

Sure but the world is full of those kind of people. Yankee fans, Steeler fans, Laker fans.

Cowboy fans.

Patriots fans.

It's one of the great ironies I think that everyone points to the bandwagon fans who are attracted to a team's success and disparages them while hoping the whole time that their team has that same level of success.

It sure would be nice if our biggest problem was bandwagon fans

Maybe I'm an odd duck then.

I only have room in my heart for one team as long as it is from Houston. When the Oilers left and Houston had no NFL team, I didn't watch the NFL. That is no lie either. Ask anyone who knows me.
 
It's just how it goes when you play a team with the following of the Steelers...

I live in a town of about 600 people 100 miles south of Houston and there are about five families of Steelers fans... Here at work i work with a couple, then one of the gate-guards has steelers stickers on his truck etc... Not to mention i watched the game at a good friend's house whose wife is from Northeast Ohio and was wearing her 43 jersey and her two kids wearing their Steelers shirts, big sticker on the back of her explorer and a terrible towel tacked on the kods' bedroom wall....

So, you have one of the biggest, most passionate followings in sports of a team with very recent success and they're going to jump on a chance to see their team close to home, something that doesn't happen very often...

Then you have Texans fan, who isnt backing a perennial winner and has a chance to see their team eight times a year...

It's really that simple...

First off I would say that there are a ton of Steelers fans. Not only do they travel well but there's a lot in this area, in Houston. They're a passionate fanbase and that's why you see them at "road" games.

Secondly, I'm sorry but I can't blame any Texans fans for selling their tickets for 3.5x face value. Maybe it would be worse if it was in week 16/17 against the colts or titans and we had the playoffs on the line. But it's the 4th week of the season and you can take advantage of that right now I guess.

Lastly, I've always felt the Texans have more of a corporate fanbase. By that I mean we've got businesses that purchase blocks of seats and give tickets to their employees. So I don't think we really have the number of "individual passionate fans" that many other fanbases do. A lot of it are business clients or employees that get to go to a game here and there. I think that's why we sometimes see a decent number of Away teams' fans.
 
Just blame it on Kubiak like half the board does. Still can't get over the fact that people were blaming Kubes for Mannings block in the back.
 
Sec 121 here.. We always have whomever we are playing in our area... Sec is mostly owned by ticket scalpers.. Just have to deal with them and their b.s. But if we keep winning there will be more texans showing up....most of the steelers fans were cheering by the 3rd qtr for the texans ..

Its all fun and games till the opposing team starts loosing!!

Or it could be because McNair is cheap. He could have easily purchased all those seats at a premium and given them to real Texans fans. :choke:
 
Watching it on TV it honestly did not look that bad. Steelers fans ALWAYS invade the opposing team's stadium, when they showed the crowd on TV I honestly expected to see more Steelers fans.
 
When I was a season ticket holder, the two seats to my right were always opposing fans. So I assume a ticket broker owned the seats and was catering to whoever the Texans played that week. I always made sure to be really nice to them, chat them up, and then at some point, thank them for contributing money to the home team. It usually drew a pretty amusing reaction.

And if they traveled from outside the area to watch the game, thank them for dropping dimes into Houston's economy.
 
meh, it's the steelers. they have fans EVERYWHERE so it's expected they will roll deep.

just like when the red sox nation comes to minute maid

or when laker bandwagoners show up at the toyota center.
 
Any team that has won multiple championships like the Steelers are going to have alot of fans outside of their home state. And those fans will pay big $ to see their team live since they only get to see them once every 4 years or whatev. Lakers, Cowboys, Steelers, they all have bandwagon fans out the ying yang.

I was at the game, then rewatched it on TV when I got home. I gotta say, on TV it didn't look nearly as bad as being in the stadium. I'd guess 25% or better of the crown were flying Steeler colors.

Damn!!! I could be. I'm saving up for a pro charger to put on my truck. That $460 would get me 1/10th of the way and channel 700 on Directv ain't the worst seats in the house.
Yes, I'm that desperate to get down to low 12's I would do that. Call it compensating for something, a second childhood....going that fast in an 8,000# truck is just effing fun and comes with less stress than watching the Texans.
