Limited Mike Wallace to only 4 catches for 77 yards. And the 40 yard pass was being covered by Jason Allen. He should have a total of 3 interceptions (darn you refs) After seeing his playmaking ability today I'm really excited about him.
We appear to have signed the right guy for our secondary.

The 40 yard pass we were in zone. JoJo always covered him man to man.
 
Not to mention he had TWO TDs both called back by dumb penalties. He might not be the most outstanding cover corner in the league(although very very good), but he finds ways to make big plays and doesn't goof up alot.

I would rather have Nnamdi though...but not if it meant not getting both Manning AND Joseph.

I just find it funny because Nnamdi basically chose the Eagles over us...

Joseph is a helluva player though. Makes plays and had two defensive TDs today and another INT. If only we could get a 2nd solid CB and a solid NT we're in business I think to be a elite defense.
 
If not for the zebras, Joseph would be an easy Defensive Player of the Week.

On the 40 yarder he was being covered by Manning.

The entire defense looks good .... front seven wreaking havoc , back end making plays when the opportunity presents itself .... Been a long time since we've seen a defense play like that in a Houston uniform.

It was funny watching the replay of Joseph's non pick 6. Quin is trailing him the whole time, yelling and pointing for him to go to the ground even as he's crossing the goal line.

This is the same guy who batted a ball vs. Jax and lost the game for us.

Nnamdi picked the wrong club I feel sorry for him. He leaves 1 losing team to go to another. The thing is the eagles are having him play in a zone scheme when he was always a man up defender, who locked down 1 WR on oneside. I am glad the Texans made the choice to sign JJ or should I say Nnamdi made the choice to join the "Dream Team". LOL

Actually, if I remember that play correctly, I think in that one particular scenario going to the ground would have been the right call. Scoring the TD gives Pitt the highly unlikely but still possible scenario (and I feel that I've seen things where this happens) of scoring a quick TD, getting an onside kick, and getting a second TD. However, by going to the ground, they can run out the clock. Basically, the chance of messing up the kneeldown and then Pitt getting one touchdown is less than the chance of Pitt getting two touchdowns in that last minute.

Yep. They are using the guy wrong, I think he woulda been excellent here but ah well...Joseph is 3 years younger and if he keeps this play up he's going to raise his rank among CBs pretty quickly.

Yup! I was yelling for JoJo to get down too. You also don't want to risk getting hit from behind and fumbling, then just giving the ball right back. The right play was to kneel and let the offense get into victory formation.

I will take the 7 points. The opponent can try to figure out how to score two TDs in under one minute.

My general feelings on this:

For all the pissing and moaning about how we "let off the gas," or "don't have the killer instinct the other elite teams have," we sure have a surprising number of fans who are scared to death of DBs catching interceptions (rather than batting them down) and/or scoring points (rather than kneeling down).

I've been a Texans fan since the day it was announced we were getting a team. I have never seen, in all these years, a defense like this one that has gone from league-worst in one year to damn near league-best the very next year.....only to have people who say batting down balls and kneeling down are better than interceptions and TDs. I. Just. Don't. Get . It.

I'm at a loss. LOL.
 
Here's a question. Is JoJo really that good, or is our other CB so bad that the offense doesn't even need to see JoJo's side?

My understanding is that it's not that he picked the wrong team, but we got tired of his dithering and pulled the plug on negotiations. After he signed with Philly, Nmandi, in an interview, said that he wasn't sure where he was going to play until the last minute and that his agent was handling everything. Sounds like his agent was using us as leverage.

Oh well. Screw him. I like Jonathan Joseph.

Joseph is aggressive. He is scrappy. He goes after passes to INTERCEPT them.

To me, it was a huge blessing in disguise that we fell out of the Nnamdi sweepstakes and grabbed Joseph and Manning as a result.

There are four levels on defense: Down linemen, LBs, CBs, and Safeties. We grabbed a competent, talented guy at the CB level (Joseph) and the same type of guy at Safety (Manning). Joseph makes the CB2 better. Manning makes his fellow Safety better. All four of those guys make the LBs and the down linemen better. Nnamdi, alone, makes only the CB2 better.

The decision to drop out of the Nnamdi sweepstakes was the right call to make. Credit to McNair and his guys. They made the right call.
 
JoJo rarely EVER gets targeted. I rarely ever hear his name (which is a good thing for a CB) unless it's an interception.

It's called smart football. He kneels and the offense has the ball with only 1:02 left. That's two kneels and the game is over. Pitt may have had one time out (don't remember), but that wouldn't have mattered either.

Jojo scoring the TD gives Pitt one minute to score two TDs to tie the game. Sure that's highly unlikely, but it's been done before. You never see a team lose once they're in victory formation. Not to mention, JoJo was in risk of getting hit during the run back and fumbling the ball.

My biggest concern whenever that happens is in bold. You rarely see teams come back from 2 TD's in one minute so that doesn't bother me. I'll take my chances in that scenario. I'm just always afraid of the player having the ball stripped lose. That happens more often than the 2 TD's and makes you wish he had just fallen to the ground instead.
 
So by this same logic, should JJ Watt have not tried to sack Big Ben in the end zone at the end of the game? I mean, he risked drawing a penalty (which he ended up getting, though he was blocked INTO the QB).

Should we never try to block a kick or a punt, for fear of running into the kicker and giving the opponent a fresh set of downs?

This list of "Safety First!" rules can go on forever.

You're asking players to bat down balls and kneel down when they can catch and intercept the ball or go into the end zone and score points off it. You're saying the best course of action is to turtle up. I say the best course of action, most damn definitely for THIS Texans team, is to put the pedal to the metal and remove the very blood and guts from our opponents.

Until then, we are soft. I want interceptions. I want points. I want opposing teams to think they're already beaten before the game begins, instead of thinking they can just hang on and wait until the Texans screw it up for themselves in the 4th quarter.

One situation a player was in complete control. The other the player tried to make a game ending play but got there too late.

I think you don't understand lessening your opponents chances at success vs. "having killer instinct". The two are not mutually exclusive.

Less than a minute left, the defense has been dominating this team pretty much all day, so there is a pretty good chance that the Steelers are not going to do some fluke **** and come back in the game. Highly doubtful. Forget falling down, go for the dagger and take the blowout victory. You know you should be able to hold them. I liked what I saw from Joseph. He wanted that pick six.

Honestly I liked it too and didn't have a problem with it, but I disagree with anyone who says falling down would have been wrong.

Technically falling down and letting the o kneel the ball is the "correct" thing to do there.
 
a win is a win weather by 50 points or by 1 point. i will take 7 point wins all season dont care about blowouts JUST WIN

This! ^^^^ Exactly how I feel. I was yelling for JoJo to get down, but didn't care one bit when he decided to go for the TD.

JoJo kneeling gives the Steelers probably 0.1% chance of winning. Going for the TD probably gave them 1% chance of winning. Texans had the win either way... but the smart thing was for JoJo kneel.

I'm even playing the Texans defense in my fantasy league and I wanted him to kneel. Haha.

I wouldn't have cared if he fell down, since a few kneel downs would have ended the game, but I liked going in for the TD much better. The whole "step on their throats" thing. If you can score, then score.
 
I'm for kneeling it down in that situation, not because the other team might score 2 td's in less than a minute, but why risk further injury to your special teams and defensive players. Just go down and let the offense kneel it down, I don't ever recall anyone getting hurt on that play.

im fine with quin doing that. just shows hes smart. not because of the never-going-to-happen (this yr anyway) comeback possibility but because of the extra chance of injury of sending a tired defence back out there again (had been on the field for 75% of the second half). not to mention the way they were all meeting at the qb yesterday, falling/rolling bodies and blown out knees were even more likely. i know you never know whats going to happen with injuries and you cant play worrying about them but you can minimise the risk in situations like that

..so you enjoy your 14 instead of 7 pt reg season victory. il take the smaller victory and better chance of having all my starters for the games that matter later on (the ones we'll actually remember/care about)
 
I was one who wanted Namdi first and Joseph second. However, I got to get respect to those who said they'd much rather get Joseph and Manning over Namdi any day. This turned out to be a much better deal for us because Manning has done some good things too. Just look at our ints. The only ones that have them are Joseph and Manning.

You have to take the points every time. As much as I was afraid he was going to have the ball stripped with the way he was running it never seemed to be in danger from the other team.

In that situation, with the defense playing so well I would take the defense holding for 2 TDs any day. The only reason they were moving it in the second half is because they got their running game going. In this situation though, they had no time to run and our line and LBs could pin their ears back and attack.
