I'll admit it, I'm pretty bummed out like most of you on this board at the 0-3 start. But as yesterday I watched the clock tick away in Cincinatti, I got a phone call from one of my close friends who so happens to be a Packer fan. He immediatley sensed by disapproval on the phone, and managed to remind me of the Packers of last year and how they turned things around.

In their first 5 games, the Packers went 1-4 and were at the bottom of the NFC North.

In their remaining 11 games, the Packers won the next 6 games in a row, and finished on a 8-3 run to make the playoffs.

Now granted, the Packers play in a weaker NFC North....but this years AFC South isn't as strong as intitially predicted.

So my question is, do you see us possibly turning it around in Packers of 04' fashion? Or do you think we'll be looking at draft picks by week 8?
 
I'll probably get blasted for this - but I'm going to say it anyway...

Reading all these posts of "proud of the effort," "steady improvement," etc. is really getting beside me. We are no longer talking about an expansion team here. We are talking about a team that was supposed to compete this year. Moral victories don't count after year 1 and aren't counted on the official standings/records of the NFL. Really, some need to step away from the kool-aid.

This is a team that was built according to an elaborately detailed step-by-step 3-4 year blueprinted plan. This is no longer an expansion team. Modest gains and steady improvement should not even be part of the vocabulary at this point.

What we have is a team with very little talent. A team loaded with Casserly's far reaching attempts to draft projects and turn them into diamonds along with average to below average free agents. It's a team that cannot compete. Had yesterday's game been played in 2002 or 2003, I would be pleased with the progress. But not this year. I expect more. We should all expect more.

I am a season ticket holder and have been a fan of this organizaton since it was known as NFL2002. I am a dedicated fan but I will criticize when the need arises - I will also give credit when it is due.

Casserly/Capers have had 4 years to fix the problems and neither has done squat. Casserly has wasted draft choices trying to prove that he still has what it takes to work his magic. His efforts (or lack of) will negatively impact this team far beyond 2005 and long after he is gone.

I hold the entire organization accountable for putting a quality product on the field. Professional football is a business. Money is made based on the product provided. There is not doubt in my mind that Mr. McNair is far from pleased with what is going on and will make the necessary changes to right this sinking ship.

This is the ONLY thing I disagree with in your post. Well the part about "trying to prove that he still has what it takes to work his magic".

Still means that he had it at one time. What has this guy EVER done? I already posted all of his draft picks while he was in Washington, most of them were pretty bad.

I think the biggest misconception is that he built all those Redskins Super Bowl teams. He was promoted to GM in 89. The Skins won their Bowls in 82-83, 87-88, and 90-91. Some can argue that the core of players that took the Skins to the Bowl in 90-91 were already in place when Casserly became GM. Remember a guy named Bobby Beathard? He was the GM before Casserly.

Here is a quote from the Washington Post back in the 90's ...
In Beathard, they had perhaps the NFL’s greatest personnel man in history feeding players for eight seasons to one of the best coaches. Gibbs and Beathard got the Redskins to the Super Bowl in their second season together and had them in contention virtually every year until their relationship came apart in 1989.

Most of Casserly's "magic" can be seen in the mid to late 90's where he had such "great" #1 picks as Heath Schuler, Desmond Howard, Tom Carter, Michael Westbrook, Bobby Wilson, and so on.

I don't have their team win loss records during Casserley's reign however I would be willing to bet it is .500 or less.

Isn't Casserly also partly responsible for trying push off that lame "Hail to the Redskins" rip-off song a couple of years ago? I remember that song being SO bad that some Texans fans were joking about how they didn't want the Texans to score so they would not have to hear that lame "fighting" song. :rofl:

EXACTLY! Beathard was the genius of those teams - Casserly was just a flunky sent to fetch coffee.
