Texans sign James Davis (RB) to PS

Not done after all I guess.
Redskins running back James Davis walked out of training camp last week because he was upset with his spot on the depth chart, leading to coach Mike Shanahan saying Davis was retired. Whatever Davis’s status, he’s not the Redskins’ problem anymore.

The Redskins have waived Davis, officially ending his tenure with the team.

Any team that wants Davis can claim him on waivers, but it’s hard to see why any team would want him. Football coaches like players who respond to being at the bottom of the depth chart by working hard, not by quitting.

And so Davis is likely done in the NFL, at the age of 25.

Not liking what the report said about his attitude, if true. But I was really excited about Davis coming out of college and thought he'd be a great fit on this team. On the PS? That's worth the risk/shot!

I'm thinking Kubiak throws prior "character issue" thinking out the window.

He knows he's expected to win with what he's been given (Wade Phillips, a defense-heavy draft, two secondary players in free agency, and an execution day reprieve from Governor McNair).

I'm not sayin' he would ignore the really bad apples, but that I bet he isn't going to be so picky that he wouldn't take a guy with a haughty attitude like Davis has.

My general thoughts on this issue:

Arian Foster picked the Texans over the Saints because (A) it provided the path of least resistance to the starter's role, and (B) they offered him more money than the Saints did. This, IMO, shows that while Foster had a good attitude about entering the depth chart at the bottom...he was still trying to game the system as much as he could, and he made a wise decision ultimately. He worked "hard" and never grumbled, but he also knew that his version of hard work would beat out a guy like Slaton. I'm just sayin'.....

Shanahan is showing he might be hard to work for. See: Donovan McNabb, Albert Haynesworth, and now James Davis. Mike Shanahan might be more trouble than he's worth, actually. And maybe that's why Kubiak brought him onto the Texans....to see if a better situation might make a difference.

Lord knows we need the bodies at RB.

Dude never had any problems with the law, or teams administrations in
college. I could say a few things about Shanahan's character, before
I'd judge JD.
 
Eh...low risk, high reward move. Basically we are making sure to have 4 RBs on roster and just replacing the vacancy that RB Chris Ogbannaya left on the PS.

If bolded is true & it may well be, would he consider in draft Notre Dame's Michael FLoyd who has had 3 drinking incidents? Floyd is very good on field.
 
I LIKE this! He probably won't ever do anything, but heck he is worth the risk. Just signing him to the practice squad? Sheesh, no risk at all. He was great in college (which I know means nothing at the NFL level) but maybe, just maybe, Kubiak/Dennison/RB Coach can get some use out of him similar to what they got out of Arian (obviously not to the same extent).
 
Hey you let him figure out how to become a pro at a low price by placing him on the practice squad. If he works out, you got your replacement for Ward or CO.
 
I remember him as a banger, between the tackles runner so he fits their one cut downhill runner profile @ low risk/cost. If he can rededicate himself to the pains & sacrifice needed to workout everyday in a back-up role, play special teams, carry Arian Fosters equipment, whatever they ask then he may have a future here? Dennison is a beast RB's coach he is the one who should get more of the credit since coming on board the Texans running game literally took off. James needs to bring his inside power style & win over Dennision to have any chance here. Washington waived him along with Cleveland in only three years.
