'Da Coach' Doesn't Like 'Da Texans'

Just watched Sportscenter as they did a Fact or Fiction on the AFC South. When asked whether the Texans will win more than 6 games this season, Da Coach, Mike Ditka said that they wouldn't, and that the Texans will always be "nowhere". He also mentioned that the Texans continually plug holes every year and never get better. Pretty harsh words. Wonder if the whole Ricky debacle has him a little upset at the moment. What was worse is that in the previous question he praised the Jaguars and their defense. The other analyst Sean 'The Steak' Salisbury predicted that the Texans would easily get 7 or 8 wins this season. Share your thoughts, and please let the hate mail fly towards 'Da Coach'.

Deat-Ka is often wrong in his analysis.

I find Salisbury irritating at times but his insight usually decent. I personally think we win 7-9 games this year.

I just had Sportscenter on, and watched a Fact or Fiction segment featuring Sean Salisbury and Mike Ditka. The question was asked "...the Texans will win 6 games, fact or fiction."

Salisbury offered a pretty realistic assesment of our chances, saying that he thought it was fact, the Texans would give most teams they play this year a pretty good tussle, and that he thought 7 or 8 wins was not out of the question.

Ditka says they are not any better than last year, that we are still trying to plug the same holes we were last year and that 6 wins will be an achievement...we aren't going to be good this year, next year or the year after that and will still be trying to plug the same holes.

Now I know I am a homer...but c'mon...are we here in H-town the only ones seeing any potential with the Texans...

Gotta admit...ole TSquared is hoping mad right now...never did like that arrogant pompus so and so Ditka....send him back to the E. D. commerical world.

Ditka doesn't know much about coaching or anything besides playing the game. There is a reason his coaching career was short-lived. He was a great player, but that doesn't mean you can coach or analyze the game of football.

I think the Texans are going to be improved around the board this year. I agree much more with Salisbury and think Ditka was way off in his predictions. Merryl (sp?) Hodge was on earlier and he also heavily praised the Jaguars while apparently not expecting much out of the Texans. He said that Carr did little to improve last season and must come out with a strong showing this year.

Now didn't Ditka flip off his fans when he was coach of the Saints? Yeah, I'm not too concerned on what a pompus-*** has to say about our team. As for him on the Jaguars? Its just another sorry reporter who wants to jump on the bandwagon train.

Ditka though very opinionated is often wrong. He thought Williams was the next coming of Barry Sanders and his team the Aints ended up trading every pick that year for a couple of picks from Miami. He was a great player an ok coach and bad analyst. They use him like TnT uses Barkley. He brings a little color to the show but everyone knows he has no idea what he is talking about. I believe Bar-kley said Yao Ming would not score 20 points his first year and had eat his words while Ming scored 20 points in a half on TnT. So I for one am looking forward to watching Ditka eat his words as the Texans end up with a better record then both the Dolphins and the Saints this year. It's amazing how one guy can cripple two seperate franchise's.

I really think that Ditka gets his info from ESPN. He brings nothing new to the table about the Texans. He is a "show me" kinda guy. And until he starts to see the Texans do well, they will always be a dismal team to him. He likes the jags because everyone thinks they are this years cinderella, and wants to get on early. He is not an analyst. His guess is just as good as anyone elses who watches football.

Ditka says "they are not any better than last year"

I guess signing Mark Bruener/Robaire Smith, our two first round draft picks, Jason Babin/Dunta Robinson, and resigning guys like Gary Walker, is our way of treading water.

He probably didnt even research the team before blabin about em.

Appearantely Mike Ditka was in a coma last year. When you lead the league in players on IR you HAVE to plug holes in that year. We've added a shutdown corner and also Babin which some have compared to Kevin Greene. Did he also not know that we lost 4 games in the final 3 minutes last year, all with backup defensive players that aren't too great.

I say, if Ditka is proven wrong this year (Which he will be) then he has to shave his mustache and keep it shaven until the next years training camp.

Remember ditka was a good motivator as coach, but a horrible judge of talent. He favored productive, blue collar guys to a fault where his team did not have enough athletic ability to compete with NEw Orleans.

Moreover, he did mention on actual move or player when he made that "analysis". IMO, it looked he offered the opposite opinion to be on the other side Salisbury. Maybe he is right, but he has to learn that you give support to ideas, especially when you are going against the grain.

A trip to English or Philosophy 1301 would probably help him a bit.

If you're wanting to hear someone at the National level talk in positive terms about the Texans, you should listen to Mel Kiper on ESPN radio on weekends. He seems to think very highly of Carr and has said he expects him to have a "breakout year". I'm not sure how you feel about Kiper, but he is an ESPN guy who's said good things about us recently.

Didnt he have Joey Harrington rated higher then Carr on his draft board, though???

Let me get this straight: Ditka spews vile about the Texans on ESPN...but according to the Texans, he would be worthy of a media pass?

Lucky's puzzled.

Merill Hodge tends to do an ok job, but he wasn't entirely wrong when he said that Carr hadn't shown much improvement from year one to year two. However, he neglected to factor in Carr's injury. His toughness and leadership was obvious during last year. I have no doubt he'll improve a great deal in his 3rd year if he stays healthy. Kiper also made a good point about the Jaguars. He pointed to the fact that Juran Bolden might be a starter for this team, and that significantly weakens the secondary. They have very good safeties, but their corners aren't very good at all. Also their kicking game is 'iffy' at best. He also mentioned that their linebackers aren't very quick, and don't annoint the Jags as having the best front 7 in the league as Merrill Hodge did.

Dickta is a moron. I know he played for the Cowboys but it seems he has a problem with Texas. He was bahing the Cowboys yesterday.

I do think though the Texans fans that are expecting 9-7 and better and a possible palyoff berth are setting them self up for disappointment.

7-9 or 8-8 with the schedule would be great.

I could careless what Ditka thinks. Buddy Ryan's defense won the super bowl for him with the bears. He NEVER has been a good coach or evaluator of talent.

Six games will come easy this year. I don't know about playoffs but 6 wins yes. The way the Texans played last year with all the injuries was really phenominal. They played the best teams in the league to the wire. Imagine a healthy team with the additions of Babin, Robinson, Wade, and Smith.

tsquared,

Why do you talk about yourself in third person?

Ogre...just a bad habit...??...maybe from sometimes as a salesman having to keep real feelings under control... darned if I know...never psycho-analyzed that...yikes... :hmmm:

Its cool everyone is jumping on with the jags because i think last year the cinderella was the dolphins or sum1 like that and they didnt even go to the playoffs. the carolina was a cinderella team because no1 thought anything of them so i like when people dont give us a chance we kno we can do god this year

Yeah it obvious to me the national media is setting us up to be a Cinderella team.

I try to ignore guys who are shameless enough to where fake dreads. I am not saying I don't like them. I just don't take them seriously.

I find it hard to believe that a team that has ONLY been around for 2 years can *always* be anything. We improved in so many areas last year, even though it wasn't reflected in the win / loss columns.

We shocked everyone with our opening win over Dallas.
We STUNNED the Dolphins into submission.
We took the Super Bowl champs to the last 41 seconds of OVERTIME.

Let them talk...our guys thrive on it and can get the job done!

Ditka has always seemed like a very bitter person to me . To sat that we have no chance for a long time to come is just another sad attempt for him to try and be a harda** .

Thought I'd aide in the Ditka hating by putting a few pics I found of 'Da Coach'.

Those pics are hilarious esp. the wedding one. I can't believe Williams wore the bride's dress. If he only had longer hair he would look like Serena Williams.

doesnt bother me. as people have said....let em' talk trash, for the sweeter it will be when the Texans prove them wrong.

I just saw the segment. It was "fact or fiction" and the question was simply, "do the Texans win 6 games"? Ditka never said some of the things I read here. SS took the "fact" and Ditka took the "fiction". All he said was we didn't plug our holes and won't win the 6 games and we will be at the same level as we were last year. If you don't like Ditka just revel in the fact that he is wrong and we can likely prove it. Some of us are kinda stretching the truth about what he is saying aren't we? That is about as weak as his insight.

^ I really don't think that means much. A team in the NFL is capable of winning any game...even if we beat the Patriots that doesen't mean anything, it means we had a good game. We could have games like that for years, most teams are inconsistent, thats why they have bad records all the time. Sometimes they win a big game, but they can't keep consistent. If we can keep it consistent winning, and then lose 40-0 to the Superbowl champs, I'd be happier.

Mike Ditka's opinion doesn't matter to me nor does anyone elses who don't think the Texans will do much of anything this year. It will be all that much sweeter when the season is over. I'm not saying playoffs but definitely 7-9 or better. We'll have some tight games but I think several of our wins will be by a larger margin than the ones we barely got away with last year. We'll show that we can be a dominating force in each game. Our consistency will improve a great deal this year and as long as Carr has time to get the ball to our receivers and his accuracy has improved we'll have a ground and air attack among the top 15 in the league. I don't think there's anyone on our schedule that will take us lightly.

Da Coch' is there for entertainment value. He's a coloful figure much like Neon (Dieon) and they have a lot to say and it doesn't really matter if it's accurate. Winning six games is not a Gimmee, but ole ChicagoTexan thinks 7 or 8 games can had.

Ditka not only took the fiction but he also said the Texans are going nowhere and would continue to go nowhere. He did not simply take the fiction and say it may take a little longer for the Texans to develop. He siad the Texans continue to use stop Gaps. Which makes absolutly no sense. The Texans continue address their holes with young talented men that they intend to hold down the positions for years to come. Not some has been who used to be a great player who is past his prime. The team that uses stop gaps is the Raiders. Ditka does not like a team stockpiled with talent he wants a bunch of people who are blue collar type guys. He assumes that the talented guys don't have good work ethic and that is what hurt the Saints. He took a shot at the Texans management. The fans need to tell him where to go. :soapbox:

I believe Ditka's exact words were something along the lines of "You know the train to nowhere? That's where they're going" referring to the Texans. I don't put much value in color commentary either, but in Ditka's case he went beyond just being wrong. He openly insulted the team. Trey Wingo, who isn't an analyst but merely an ESPN guy, reminded both 'The Steak' and 'Da Coach' that the Jags nearly beat the Panthers last year, but no mention of the Texans actually beating them. Even though that was wrong it was not an insult. Therefore no "Trey Wingo doesn't like the Texans" thread. I'm all for color comentators, and I don't put much value on any of them. However, when their commentary goes from wrong to insulting that is where I draw the line.

I saw it late last night, and it just made Ditka look ridiculous.

If any team had faith in Ditka's abilities, he'd still be coaching. I don't remember Capers or Casserly spending their draft day practicing their golf swings - this season or any season.

You guys are wasting a lot of energy on a guy who has probably never seen a Texans highlight in his life and probably couldn't name two Texans players. Who cares what Ditka thinks. Who cares what Salisbury thinks. Both are egomanic blowhards. I will listen if Clayton or Jaworski have something to say. Both of those guys take time to do their homework.

If anyone saw Ditka on sportscenter they will know what i'm talking about. He said, and I almost quote. "The Texans will not win 6 games this year because they they didn't do anything in the offseason to improve". Not only did he say that he praised the Jaguars for being the best up and coming team this year. I'm sorry but he obviously didn't do his homework. Any Thoughts?

I think you're talking about Mike Ditka...not Dick Butkus. It might help your arguement to get the name right...

Ya we lost 5 of our opening day starters on a defense that in our first season was a strength. Our offense will improve from the additions to the o-line and the extra year of chemistry.

The defense not only adding a bevy of young talent, but also has all their injured players coming back.

Not going crazy to say that we will go to the playoffs but somewhere in the 6-9 win range depending on how the ball bounces.

I agree, had the texans been in a different division last year their record would have been much better. Carr will be a great qb with good protection... The Jaguars Leftwich wont, they are rebuilding themselves around a qb that at best will be an average qb...I think the texans will give the titans great problems in the future and might even become a real rivalry as soon as this season..

The guys an *****...He is probably bitter because the Texans didnt offer him a job.How many draft picks did he give up for Ricky(sticky fingers)Williams?Yeah....Ditka really has been on the money with his decisions. If he ever makes it to a Texan game, and they put his image on our big screen,I think we should give him a big TEXAN BOO and let him know how we feel about his comment...anybody with me on that?

When I first saw the sched for this year, I had us going 7-9 due to the fact it looks easier than last year's sched. Of course, with the way things change in the NFL from year to year, whp knows if it really will be? With the improvements on the D and a more reasonable injury bug, who knows, maybe a winning record? Even last year we blew 5 fourth quarter leads largely due to a thin, injury plagued D. If we had held on to those leads we would have been 10-6 and a wild card team (since two of those games were against Tenn. and Indy)

We owe Ditka an apology he seams to know what he is talking about. He simply said what everone outside of us Texans fans was thinksing and now I see they were correct.

Ditka is a PUTZ. It's not like we didn't play well enough to win in both games, we just shot ourselves in the foot. The talent is there to win, we just need to execute correctly.

If Davis has no fumbles this year, so far, we are 2-0 and Ditka is praising us, because we made such great improvements in the off-season. He's just going with the records. He would also bad mouth Jacksonville, if they were 0-2. He's a schmuck.
