Hypothetical question(s) to Texans fans that used to be Houston Oiler fans

If magically Wade fixes the defense and they beat the Steelers in the playoffs, and his defense is the staple of a team that wins a SB, does that officially close the wound of the Oilers leaving? How about if they win multiple titles? If not, what would it take? Or is it permanent?
 
I dont think you can ever take back or forget what Buck Fud did by taking his ball and moving to hilbilly holler ..... We've seen other teams move as well .... St Louis Cardinals , LA Rams , Baltimore Colts and Cleveland Browns and the Okland Raiders. Owners have shuffled teams around for better stadiums or more favorable terms / media markets.

Its kinda a reminder that these arent "our teams" they are on loan to us and often those owners are like that little shithead who got mad , takes his ball and goes home leaving the rest of the kids standing around.

To be honest ... I liked the Astrodome more than I do Reliant if for nothing other than I didnt feel like the person next to me was sitting in my damn lap. Reliant even with all its amenities almost feels like a sardine can.
 
The days of the Oilers, just like my old days of smoking pot and getting laid every week by different girls are long gone......nothing but memorys there. Some good, some bad (for both).

Nothing the Texans will ever do will erase the memory of us old timers of Earl Campbell, Bum Phillips and The House of Pain. But the Texans are it now. The Oilers never took us to the promised land, so it's up to the Texans to get that job done.

You sir, just need to add some blue pills to that diet, and you'll be right back in the saddle... I want to see positive postings on the boards on Football Sunday, not these "Help, it's fallen and I can't get it up!" :)

Make that the Chicago Cardinals, and the Cleveland Rams respectively and add the Los Angeles Chargers, the Decatur Staleys (Chicago Bears), and the Dallas Texans (Kansas City Chiefs) and you've got them all.

The wound is already closed for me, I love this team win or lose and hate the Titans. I just remember how Bud every year threatened to move this team is we didn't change this. Every year we had to add seats somehow and lose or beloved score board. It just got old how he did it with threats, I just did not cared when they finaly left. heck, that oil derrick on the helmit looked stupid anyways. LOL.

Was a huge Oilers fan but couldn't have been happier to see Bud leave. We needed a fresh start and we got one, so I guess my answer is, no. It has nothing to do with the abject failures of the previous regime.

This is why I never use terms like us or we when describing the Texans. They aren't our team. There BOBBY's team.

BoBBy has taken advantage of of Buck Fud moving the Oilers to the tune of about a billion $$$$. With very little to show for it as far as the on field product goes. Fans continue to buy into his this is the yr schitck because they would rather have a losing team than no team at all. I understand this sentiment but disagree with it.

Oh well, this is a new yr. GO TEXANS

They are separate entities to me.

Having the Texans win a Super Bowl will be great, but losing the Oilers will always be painful.

The NFL is the NFL though....football is football, regardless of colors and logos. Just glad the NFL is back in Houston. No wounds here.

As for the topic..I could afford season tickets to the Oilers. Being in the crowd made the game special. I can only watch the Texans on tv. It isn't the same, and I will never feel the same attachment as I did to the Oilers.

Many here talk chit about McNair but still go to the games and cheer on the Texans.

I felt the same about the Oilers, I loved the team but Bud...not so much.

The Texans cannot replace that. But the Titans are not the Oilers.

It's permanent.

Like any "scar" we might have, it never goes away. It doesn't hurt anymore, but the scar is there to remind you that something hurt you a long time ago. It reminds you of the dangers of following a sports team fanatically.

And nobody is safe from the dangers. Ask Seattle Supersonics fans. Ask Los Angeles Rams fans. Baltimore Colts fans, Cleveland Browns fans, etc. There are many, many examples of this.

I firmly believe that certain people have a wandering spirit about them. Bud Adams left Houston, and I don't doubt that he'd leave Tennessee in a heartbeat if a better deal came along or he got miffed at the city or something. Of course, he's getting older and older...so he might just ride it out and day "To hell with moving anymore." I dunno. But I think some teams have owners who are not loyal to their fans, they're loyal to themselves only.

I've griped a lot about McNair on here. I admit it. But I also will just as quickly admit that he seems like a grounded person who wouldn't move the team. For that, I can tolerate a lot of things. I might gripe about it, but I can tolerate it.
 
No. He stole the legacy of Earl, Dante, Brazile, Mauck, Burrough, Culp, Houston, "White Shoes", and too many others ..... left it somewhere on the roadside between here and Tennessee.

I never equated the Titans with the Oilers. Bum killed the Oilers. I'm a Texans fan.
 
The wound closed for me in 2002 when they brought the NFL back to Houston. The Oilers were good times, but it's over and I've long since gotten over it. I'm mostly glad that we get to play the Titans twice a year. There is nothing sweeter than beating the team of Budedict Arnold.

Life's too short to waste any of it carrying around emotional baggage in the form of personal hatred against Bud. Any animosity I have toward the Titans is solely because they aren't my Texans.

In fact, the wound closed for me the day the NFL announced Bob McNair had won the expansion team sweepstakes in 2000.

Good riddance, Bud!

And I'm overjoyed the Oilers/Titans are in our division. There's no better natural rivalry than Texans/Titans.

And we're good enough to make it a real rivalry, too. Against all the teams in our division.
 
Man I loved the Oilers from first season to the last. So many memories, so many players and coaches. Quite a few emotional highs and probably even more lows. Almost got side tracked as I could have been talking about the mother of my son. SHe is gone and so are the Oilers.

Man I love the Texans....
 
The Texans have nothing to do with the Oilers. Nothing they do in any way relates to anything the Oilers did.
