**Not sure if this is the right spot but it's not about the stuff on the field but about the office-Mods move if you think appropriate**
I've been meaning to put this up for a couple of weeks and other things (earthquake, hurricane and loss of internet) have got in the way.
So here it goes-I have to say that the folks who work in the "customer service" area of the Texans office are frickin' awesome.
I'm not sure if I've said this yet but I'm retiring with just shy of 21 years in the Air Force next June. So that being said, normally when a member is retiring they get a flag flown over the Capital in D.C. and a letter of congratulations from their Congress person. I was thinking that I wanted to do something different, something meaningful to me, so I was thinking that I'd get a flag flown over the Capital in Austin. I did the leg work and found out this could be done. I was telling my wife (she's a Steelers fan...) about this and she said, "Why don't you contact the stadium??" So I did. After moving through four people, who were all very helpful, I got the person I needed and low and behold they would be "happy" to fly a flag for me. Obviously because of when the football season is and when my retirement will be, it had to be flown this year.
They would fly a flag for me during any day (including a game day), I just needed to get them a flag. I was excited for a game day, but they will only fly a 10 ft by 15 ft flag over the stadium on game days. That is one BIIIIIIG flag, and I'd have no way to display it. So I asked about flying a more manageable flag of 5 ft by 8 ft. They said that they would fly it any day that they didn't have another event in the stadium, take a picture of it over the stadium and send a congratulations letter from the GM.
So on Friday, Oct 14th (my birthday) the flag flying over the Texans stadium will be flown for me. So anyone going by give it a little salute for me!!!
I've got to say that the organization was great about it and actually sounded kinda excited about it. The guy I finally dealt with (his name escapes me and is on my computer at work) was great and quickly responded to my questions.
P.S. the Astros also said they would fly the same flag for me over Minute Maid Park. This one can wait until next year at the beginning of the Season when there is still a hope of a good season...
