Our take on how well the Texans did in free agency. It is a blog post but is definitely not spam.

Read if you like otherwise move along for those that feel the need to be negative over blog posts.

We would like to know feedback on how well you thought the Texans performed and what areas you would of liked to see more emphasis placed upon.

I don't disagree necessarily although I would have liked to have seen a few other moves made.

1) I would have liked to have seen a big, space eater NT brought in just in case the experiment with small NTs didn't work.

2) I would have liked to have an ILB with 3-4 experience brought in at least for depth and to help train the guys. Also, to fill in for Cush or DeMeco who are both coming off injuries and haven't playes this position before.

3) I would have liked a WR brought in although I am really happy with the UDFAs we got.

So I give us an A, not an A+.

agree with you on every point. They just added LB Tim Dobbins so there is some depth and familiar with Wade's system is a plus. Overall we felt an "A" grade without a doubt.

Added the + due to the excitement the signings caused for the fans and Houston. 1st time in a long they were big players in free agency.

Looks like Spam to me. **** load of advertising on that site. If getting traffic to that site isn't helping you guys out, I find it hard to believe.

Last year was a disaster. But Cody's play showed promise.

In 2009, I think he was a big part of the success we had on defense. He was playing pretty much the same to how Wade is expecting him to play in 2011.

We had room for improvement, but I think we were one of the better teams in short yardage situations that year.

Now, I'm not saying Cody is the answer at NT. He just may be a stop gap. We've added talent at DE, OLB, CB, & Safety... we had to make due with something somewhere.

I know most people here think, "3-4" & big NT. But you know we're pretty much going to be running a 4-3 under with a DE standing up on the weak side. So maybe we can get by with what we've got.

Which.. makes me very excited about the 2012 draft.

Imagine if Wade is able to get the production defensively that Kubiak has gotten offensively from those players that weren't drafted high, or proven ballers, & we are able to draft BPA on both sides of the ball...

Wade will get the production needed to get the defense and players into a position to succeed. It should be like night and day compared to last year.

Now at some point Wade's defense could plateau in a couple years leaving everyone once again frustrated with the defense.

As we all know it is a read and react system.
 
My concern is the NT because if it does not work out there is no one to go get. The is only one big NT coming out in college and I'm drafting him on my mock. I rate the draft as A+ and the FA signings B+ that would go to A+ if we end up trading for Asante Samuel.
 
I give us a B+ for the offseason we had. Don't get me wrong, we improved on paper in two critical areas and brought back some critical vets like Rashard Butler and Jacoby Jones. But we didn't necessarily get a star play this offseason (maybe Jonathan Joseph will burst out this season in the national spotlight), but we did what we absolutely had to.

Big Signing: Johnathan Joseph. While 2010 was hampered by injury, he was our sixth ranked cornerback in 2009. Active in run support as well.
Under the Radar: Mike Brisiel. Continuity is key for offensive lines, so for the Texans to be able to bring back a part of our second ranked offensive line is huge.
Big Loss: Vonta Leach. Our third ranked full back from last year can be a crushing lead blocker.
Grade: A. They needed to upgrade their secondary and not lose anything on offense. They’ve pretty much done that.

Jonathan Joseph would have been the best FA player available if a guy named Nnamdi wasn't available, and how often does that happen?

Not only did we get Joseph, and Manning, and resigned a bunch of guys, AND got Wade Phillips, AND Vickers, AND the focus in the draft, AND the fact that ownership/management finally went after blatant weaknesses and is creating lots of excitement.....they get an A for now.

Now let's hope it all translates.
