As they are discussing injuries, they note Cushing, who's not practicing with the team, as he's pushing (or pulling) a sled on another field and McLame says something to the effect that They don't need Cushing on the field.

I get it that "They need Cushing healthy", but with all the change, new faces on defense and an obviously different playbook, it sounds very ignorant to state they don't need Cushing in practice.

Used to be Texans cuts would "fall into the abyss" ... now they get picked up by other teams. (Okoye,Anderson)

Cushing is still mentally involved. He participates in all the walkthroughs. He just doesn't do the contact stuff.
 
Is Mcmannis moving to safety as well? I thought he would be competing for the nickel or dime corner.

I think he's speaking to the fact that the depth and quality of players on this team is improving, which is a good sign. I didn't read too much into it except for the idea that the team is headed in the right direction.

I don't think he's patting himself on the back. He's saying it because it's true and the improvement in recruiting is obvious.

Too bad Pollard isn't one of those guys who got picked up.

Exactly. We are now cutting players that other teams actually want.
 
It's still really stupid to bring up on the radio. Let the idiots who have to blabber for 4 hours a day come up with that kind of crap, not the GM.
 
Cushing had knee surgery this off-season. He's being held out of practice for that reason alone.

They kept DeMeco Ryans from practicing in the heat, and he worked with the team indoors. Brian Cushing was held out of practice altogether because they are taking precautions from off-season knee surgery. He’s expected to return later this week.

They have a bunch of guys at CB, and need some depth at Safty. McMannis could be good there. McCain, Allen, Harris, Carmichael, JJ, Jackson, and a bunch of UDFA's mean a log jam at CB.

Don't they want all the secondary players to be interchangeable?? This could explain why they are moving people around.
