Exciting Football!!

There were several football games this weekend that mirror what football games are all about, including the Pats/Steelers-Cowboys/49'ers-Jags/Jets, etc. All of these teams-and yes there were many others- played to win, whatever it took- no 'playing not to lose' here.

Several teams have re-invented themselves (Pats do it every year) since the Texans have been in the league with new coaches and almost entirely new rosters and many are reaping benefits. The Bengals, an NFL door mat a couple years ago, seem poised to be a power house. The Bills are playing tough, as are the Jags--even the Browns, last years worse team in the NFL, are showing signs of life and the list of teams on the rise goes on.

So, is there a common denominator-something the Texans don't have- that has been the driving force behind so many other teams success? IMO, yes, and that is coaching that starts with the HC and filters all the way down. Capers has finally admitted to what many posters have already accused him of-- 'coaching not to lose'- because of the 'new' team label. So, how do you take a team from a philosophy that contains the word 'lose' to one that emphasizes 'win?'

What will we see this Sunday from the Texans that will be different from the first two weeks? Capers is no dummy--he's got to no he's on the 'hot seat.' He's played his OC blame 'trump' card, so whats next? If, after all we've been through with expectations and changes (some late), Sunday is just the 'same O same O'--well, I don't know. Four years is a long time to wait/reap the rewards of obtaining a goal and fail...let's hope that what we've seen is a mirage and 'everything' is all better!!!!!! :texflag:

Well said, but what we say does not matter. A lot of people have seen the problems for a long time, but not the key people. McNair is as responsible as anyone, but its his money. He has put his trust in the wrong people and they are pulling the wool over his eyes. I think Casserly has gone out and got the best he could - some of the picks were based on what Capers and his staff wanted - but most did not see the light of day because of the ineptness of the coaching staff.

Carr has not been well coached.
AJ has not been well coached by the Texans.
DD has not been well coached.
O-line has not been well coached.

You can go on and on from there. Our biggest single problem is the coaching staff and I believe everything else is fixable. If you look back at the end of year two we were beginning to come around and some players had come to the fore because of injuries. Those players were thrown on the trash heap in favor of the returning players. Now some of those players are reappearing. This coaching staff does a pxxx poor job of evaluating players. They like people who sxxx up to them. I think people like Glenn and Sharper finally had had enough and that's why they are gone. They had had enough and they weren't getting any younger and wanted to leave on a brighter note. Capers needs to go now, so that the rebuilding of the team and its confidence can begin.

That is why the Texans need to get rid of Capers. Coaching not to lose? That sounds like words coming from a chronic loser. They also need an o-line, but these problems start with their attitude's. They will never win week after week until they have a winning attitude. I'm tired of all these excuses coming from these guys. There should be no excuse for losing. I hope they get it together. :texans:

I hope you guys don't have to wait as long as we did for the Owner of the team to wake up. When Marvin Lewis came to Cincy, it was like a breath of fresh air. The coaching staff we have now instills so much confidence that our defense has become a secondary offense. These guys expect to take away the ball every drive, and it's not because they're any better, it's because they now know HOW to do it. Chad and Houshmandsadeh have been on this team for five years. They didn't just wake up one morning on ESPN, they've finally been coached in the right techniques to get themselves there. Texas has very formidable players, but until someone at Houston grows some guts and brings them up on the same page, they're not going to be the wrecking crew that cincy has become uder Lewis and Bratkowski.

:texflag: I bet its pretty quiet at the Texans offices . Right now theirs talent issues ... yet we have the biggest scouting department . We have had alot of picks ( high picks ) but only two AJ and DRob seem to be Pro Bowl regulars .
Somehow I feel that if the Texans did'nt hire Capers he'd be a cordinator somewhere not a Coach.

Exactly when did Capers says he coaches not to lose? Do you have a quote?

He never says those exact words, but you have to read between the lines. For ex... after the buffalo game he said if it wasn't for all of the turnovers the score would have been 14-7 with a chance for us to win at the end, which is where we would want to be.

He always talks about keeping the game close so they have a chance at the end. Whatever happened to trying to put some points on the board and beating the hell out of someone?

"As an offense, we've got to be aggressive," Carr said. "We can't go back and resort to what we did our first couple of years when we were just trying not to lose."

...will post the other quote if I can find it

So you give me a Carr quote for something you attributed to Capers? Good try. Do play again some time. Don't get me wrong, I believe actions are louder than words. And in action, Capers imo, has "coached not to lose" as an overall philosphy. However, that's a far cry from him admitting such. I have yet to see a quote. Something tells me I will be waiting a loooong time. :challenge

I think McNair is the driving force behind this shake-up. He was not happy after the steeler game and indicated the team would not accept this type of play. He meets with the head coach and gm after every game, and i truly believe he will get this thing corrected. He's not like some owners who will accept losing and do nothing until it's too late. He did state that his options were limited at this time. I believe he was behind this move, and i also believe he will begin searching for another coach should we not see any improvement.

...at least I came clean!...let me go back and look at some of your posts to see what I can find!!

I definately don't support firing Capers, untill the end of the season. He knows he has nothing to lose now. He knows we have to score. But more importantly, David Carr knows he's in the hot seat as well. If we continue on our current path we'll have the number #1 pick next year, and Leinhart (or maybe Vince Young  ) will look real appealing. So Carr knows he has to impress the league and the fans - 'cause most likely he can't count on Capers being there. I don't care how bad your O-Line is getting sacked 8 times a game isn't very impressive. I'd much rather see a game where DC got sacked: 0 times, threw for: 300 yards 3 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Especially if most of those interceptions could be attributed to the fact that his recievers suck. Andre Johnson's great, screw it - let's throw it to him 20 times a game. Why the hell not? At least we'll move the ball and have a few moments in a game where we can chear.

Rock on. I agree completely. Much rather have David Carr throw for 300 yds 2 tds and 4 ints. If they throw the ball more often, it'll open up for D Davis to have huge stats. More points on the board. More wins. Get Capers and the rest of his coach's out of here, and bring in an off. minded head coach, and a bad a@# def cord. go Texans
