Is this our best secondary yet?

On paper it certainly looks like it:

CB: Joseph,Jackson,Harris,Allen,Carmichael
Fs: Quinn, Nolan
Ss: Manning, Keo

We finally have safeties that can cover. With these safeties, our CBs will look good. Add in a Wade Phillips pass rush and I have just put back on my homer goggles!!!

looks good. i think our best was when we had D-Rob, A Glenn and M. Coleman. G. Allen and Seth Payne on the line.

BUT i love what we have now it looks to be good :)

Looks like it. I just hope Kareem Jackson improves dramatically. With Joseph on one side we don't need stellar player opposite him but if KJ plays like he did last season it could still hurt this club.

In theory, yes it should be the best defense we've ever fielded.

Also, in theory, we are the most complete team in the AFC South.

The Texans have more talent on defense than they've ever had. What does that mean? We'll see soon enough going against Peyton, Big Ben, and Brees in the first 4 weeks of the season.

I think we'll see why KJ was touted as "most NFL ready" rookie CB in his class with 2 safeties that can cover and Wade Phillips coaching. He will get tested early though, because he hasn't earned Leon Hall's rep.

Hopefully our pass rush is up to snuff. Pitt and Indy have weak lines we can exploit!

That gives me goosebumps.

It felt good typing it, and I genuinely believe it. Peyton is, ofcourse, still Peyton. Clearly the Colts will still be very formidable. But that roster up and down does not have nearly the talent that the Texans do. None of the other AFC south teams do.

This is the first year that I'm going into the season thinking that we aren't just a shoe in for the playoffs. I think we make a serious run.

Knock on wood we stay healthy.

I'll bet other teams/organizations are taking notes. Three quality db's drafted along with two quality db's in FA, can't ask for much more than that, now its up to the coaches to teach & players to learn/perform.

our D is starting to look very promising.

I'M EXCITED!

Just saw that in the 2006 NFL draft, Jason Allen was selected 8 picks ahead of Johnathan Joseph. Crazy how things work out.

PeyMeATon might not be the same old Peyton we've become accustomed to .... He's coming off his second neck surgery in two seasons and isnt likely to be ready any time soon.

"All" this defense needs is for it to be anywhere between 12-15th in the league.

I think it's possible.

We do that, offense stays fine and healthy, and it's over.

Not just the best secondary, I would say this is the best defense, offense, and coaching staff the Texans have ever put on the field.

Glover Quin has never played FS before, might need a year or two to reach his highest potential, and maybe even more. But I do think he can be really good, just not right away. I don't watch Da Bears so I'm not really sure how good Danieal Manning is in the Zone or w/e Wade need him for, I just know he's a good tackler and an excellent KR/PR.

Jonathan Joseph is our best CB ever. KJ isn't ready to play the #2 CB spot, I'd rather have Jason Allen playing that spot, then KJ for nickel. Brandon Harris can be really good dime corner this year, might need to play dime for two years, or whenever KJ is ready to fill that #2 CB spot.

This secondary can be really good, we just need some good coaching and some experiences. Lots of potentials.

Exactly. While my hopes are up yet once again, I've been down this road to many times. I'm certain we'll be a better team this year, but until the Texans put on their uniforms and start knocking heads with other teams, we just won't know how good they really are.

On paper this is the best secondary and best defense we've ever had, but the games arean't played on paper. They still have alot to prove on the field.

Man am I excited about this defense. I think having a legit corner will really improve a lot of things. I'm hoping this means more coverage sacks for Mario et al. The only question in my mind now is the linebackers. Is Demeco gonna be ready and is the achilles going to hold up and will Cushing be able to play at the same level he did as a rookie.

Best DB group in Texans history. Glen is the only CB the Texans have had that's better than Joseph. The Texans have finally added whats been missing to the backend of their defense. Speed, both Joseph and Manning can fly.

BTW, If Peyton is healthy and the 2 rookie OL they drafted can play there's no way the Colts finish 3rd in the division.

Dont count the Texans in the playoffs just yet. They still have the Dennys menu man/ sheep humper calling the shots. That's good for -2 wins its self.

Where does all this come from?

KJac Played just as well in some spots as Allen did for us, I really don't think one of them has an advantage over the other, except in fan perspective.

Glover Quin was projected as a FS coming out of New Mexico State. We drafted him in the 4th round to play corner & he's been our best nickle corner to date (my opinion of course).

Brandon Harris is a second round pick, corner back, out of the U... there is no reason to believe he wouldn't be able to handle nickle duties.

I'm not saying he should play the nickel, only that there's no reason he can't play the position from day one.

With JJo, KJac, & Allen, chances are we've got the nickel figured out anyway.

I don't know if this is the best secondary we've had yet, but it's definitely the best we've had in Kubiak's years.

Fixed it for you.

Kubes still head coach....until I see playoffs and keep seeing dumbass play class at even more dumbass times, I can't say best coaching staff.

what do you mean? we have two of the top coordinators offensive (Kubiak) & defensive (Phillips) money can buy :wwfsmd:

What ever makes you think that the Jags will have a better season than the Colts?

maybe because i just don't like the colts and would love to see them finish 3rd lol.

jaguars have upgraded heavily on defence and they did only just lose the division last year. they seem to have a way of out performing themselves.
the main thing is though they have no WRs especially if they lose MSM.

i know its unlikely but i figure the colts have to lose their hold on the AFC south and what better time then now.

also manning having 2 neck surgeries is not a plus for the colts. mathis might holdout to so that hurts.

jags have a good run game 2

TRJ - are you still on your um, er, um....hiatus? If so, I believe this is the year you have been waiting for...

Coaching would have made a huge difference by itself. With the infusion of the talent, I say most definitely!

Is bob still cheap?

I sure wish the hard part of our schedule came later in the year instead of smacking us in the face the first 6 weeks.

This defense with all new players and an all new scheme is going to take time to gel, time that was cut short because of the stupid lockout ><

Don't expect miracles just yet...

That being said.....

<--- secretly super excited

Which former texans staff would you give the award to then? Capers, Palmer, Fangio? I know it can't be Kubiak, Shanahan, Smith/Bush.

I think one thing we do as fans, is over-emphasize our additions, while understating the additions of our divisional foes.

We always underestimate the Jags. They're talentless.... but they are well coached.

We underestimate the Titans. Just because we don't like them.

We underestimate the Colts. It's just hard to imagine they can be that good, again, and again, and again.

I hope I am in the running for president of the Sunshine Club, but my optimism has always come from way overestimating the leadership of Gary Kubiak. I think Denver offense and I want to equate that with Kubiak. But he has yet to show that killer, step on your throat, run the score up because we can mentality Denver had.

This offseason has me believing Bob took Rick Smith by the collar with one hand & told him, "I'm tired of this ****!! Get'r done!!"

I'm hoping he was holding Kubiak by the ear with the other hand.

The first six weeks we could lose to maybe anybody. Still learning our new defensive scheme, getting used to who is supposed to be where, trusting each other to do their job.

I'd rather go through those growing pains with the difficult teams. If we go 2-4, we can coast through the final 10 games.

We're still talking about Titans & Jags & Colts in that final 10. But if we go 8-2, that's 10 wins.
